What's wrong with being labelled as a center these days?
Amare and Tim Duncan have both said they don't want to be moved to, or labelled as a center. KG has also said in the past that he didn't want to be center.
I'm not saying that they're centers, but it seems as if labelling them as such is offensive, but what's wrong with it?

Their trademark and reputation as a PF would diminish.

I guess it is because when people think of power forward they think of a big man with more range, athletism, and a position that demands respect, and you will get respect at. When they think of center they think of Shaq ( no offense), but they think people will look at them as a player who does nothing except get points off layups and boards, and thats not what they do.

I think they also do not like the plays and defense they face at center. KG is big tall, but he is a bit small compared to other centers it may be just because he is long because I think he put on 25 pounds of muscle or more since entering the league, but it seems like a possiblility of why he would not want to play center is because he feels he would have to body up his man a lot more, and possibly his numbers would go down in blocking due to the size of the man he is now guarding.

Tim Duncan actually did play center at one point and saw he didnt like it first hand. He does not like the plays run when he is at center, and his numbers are still great, but not as good as they are when he is a power forward because when he is at center he has the range, but the plays dont allow him to use it. So he is being forced into a position he does not want to be in.

Amare he is playing center right now and he is under sized a bit so he can not dominate the centers of the west like he would the power forwards of some teams. He also does not get to use his full defensive ability power forwards often come out to the wings more and guard more talented players when they are playing the 2-3 zone, but centers are taught to not leave the basket as much just cut off the man from getting to the basket.

I do not think there is a true reason they jsut feel like pwoer forward is a mroe respectable position in there minds, and there talents are being miss used when they are playing center. Not only that, but I think they fear the everyday NBA fan who does not really pay attnetion to the players just egts final scores may question there talent.
