Mourning, Donyell Marshall & Jalen Rose to Miami Source <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As it turns out, Alonzo Mourning may be getting exactly what he wants -- a chance to play for a ring, in a comfortable environment. Though it wasn't confirmed by any of the principals, an Eastern Conference general manager said last night that the former Nets center -- traded to Toronto in the Vince Carter deal yesterday -- is going to be redirected to the Miami Heat, the team he put on the map through the first 12 years of his career. </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It was unclear if Mourning would receive a buyout from Toronto and then join Miami as a free agent, or if he would be moved in a follow-up trade for a Heat player who earns something in the neighborhood of Mourning's $5.4 million salary. </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The trade was not contingent on Mourning passing a physical. Rumors out of Toronto were that Mourning would get an acceptable buyout, which would make him free to sign with anyone. According to one NBA source, the Miami Heat would pursue Mourning if he is bought out. </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It is also a new start for Mourning, who had constantly criticized management and ownership for last summer's trades. The 34-year-old Mourning, who joined the Nets as a free agent two summers ago, wanted a buyout worth $14 million of the $17 million he was owed for the final three years of his deal. Now he will likely seek the same arrangement with the Raptors, who waived their requirement for Mourning to pass a physical to make this deal happen.</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">According to league sources, the Raptors and Miami Heat remain in discussions on a trade that would involve Toronto's Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall and a package of Miami players including Eddie Jones and Malik Allen. "Obviously the No.1 domino was Vince Carter and now that domino has fallen, it remains to be seen what comes after that," Rose said cryptically before Toronto faced the Indiana Pacers last night.</div>
This trade would make you gues even more serious contenders, atleast more so in the East. Damon Jones Wade Rose Marshall Shaq Zo coming off the bench, would be a deadly lineup. However, I must warn you that for every great shot Rose throws up and gets in, there's always another selfish shot waiting....he is also a liability on defense. But nonetheless, that lineup looks stronger and more potent then the current line up you guys are playing with. Haslem better be included in this deal as well or else it's a rip off. Marshall is extremely underrated and as he displayed last year in his stint with the Raptors, capable of averaging a double double. I really do not want Eddie Jones because for one, he's inconsistent and secondly, he's just like Rose except that he's better on defense but has an inconsistent offensive game. Not to mention he's old. If this trade goes down, I wish you guys the best of luck in making the Eastern Conference finals becuase your team will definetly be a powerhouse. Not to mention Zo will get what he wants....
I don't think the Heat want told hold on to Mourning's contract, not with our cap situation. I think Mourning is more motivated to buy out of his contract after being moved to Toronto. Good trade though, it addresses some of the areas of weakness for the Heat.
I'd prefer the package include EJ and Wesley Person rather than Malik Allen, but it's not a big deal. The 2004-05 Raptors are going to look like our bench last year... they've already got Skip and Woods . Either way, i'm loving this deal and hope it goes down. A direct trade for Zo would be highly unlikely unless it was a straight trade for someone with almost an identical salary. Time to go make some roster moves in my NBA Live 2005 franchise .
I read somewhere that Haslem was included in the deal. Also, I still don't believe that Zo would take the league minimum...but who knows.
Heat would have an advantage over the Pistons purely down to Rose and Marshall, both Piston killers. If Zo is added in this deal then the Heat will look VERY strong.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Real Deal:</div><div class="quote_post">I read somewhere that Haslem was included in the deal. Also, I still don't believe that Zo would take the league minimum...but who knows. </div> Haslem is the future of the Heat along with Wade. Shaq won't be in Miami more than two years or so, we need to retain Haslem no matter what, and if it means this deal not going through, so be it.
Although I'm an all time fan of Zo, I don't think it's a right thing to do to send Haslem in the deal that would land Zo back in Miami.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting WadeDynasty:</div><div class="quote_post">Although I'm an all time fan of Zo, I don't think it's a right thing to do to send Haslem in the deal that would land Zo back in Miami.</div> It's going to be impossible for us to trade for Zo because of the 200% rule. The only way we'll be able to get Zo is if the Raptors buy out his contract and we sign him.
Hmmm I do not want jalen Rose at all. His heft contract is worse than Eddie Jones. If UDonis Haslem is included in this deal no Fin way. Malik Allen is a player with some serious potential. I don't really care for any of these players beside Mourning. Marshall for some reason won't be a good fit in Miami and JAlen Rose I just don't like him....... Shaq Marshall Rose Wade Jones or Shaq Udonis Haslem Eddie Jones D-Wade Damon Jones Personally I like the second one and I don't like this trade. I'd rather have Mouring buy out his contract and have him sign with us.
Unlike EJ, Jalen Rose has actually been living up to his massive contract. Also, Donyell Marshall is one of the best shooting PF's in the league, he would not start over Haslem though. Starters: Shaq Haslem Rose Wade Jones Bench Zo Laettner Marshall Butler Dooling Doleac Anderson Person Zhihi Wright Beasley If this trade goes through and we also sign Zo, that would give us 16 players and one person would have to be cut or traded for a conditional second round draft pick or something of that sort if this deal goes through. I'd trade/cut Wang Zhizhi or Wesley Person.

Sort of like OLiver Miller with the T-Wolves last year. I think that the Raptora will be wanting Haslem, and I would never give him to them for these players. HE has the potential to be our LAmar Odom.

Haslem will not be part of this deal, Riley won't allow him to be. Eddie Jones and Malik Allen straight up for Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall is a very fair trade slightly in our favor, but still pretty fair. Also, Jalen Rose is the reason we secured the 4th seed and home court advantage last year during the playoffs when he hit a buzzer beater game winning 3 pointer to defeat Bucks on the last day of the season .
Riley: "I do think we need help. We have to improve. But I think we have a bigger upside than almost any team in this league, from where we are to how good we can become." "I don't want to do something to shake up a team that's got some good going for it," Riley said. "I think over the next month we're going to start playing some different teams and we'll see where we are, and we still have until February." "Not the first thing that comes barking down my door am I going to say yes. I don't want to race off and do anything that's sort of silly right now." LINK http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basketb...fla-sports-heat I think Riley will take some time to figure this one out. But it might happen soon because Alonzo Mourning said he is NOT going to Toronto. Toronto will be forced to act quickly. I like Jalen Rose over EJ. I don't think Donyell Marshall in better than Udonis. <font color="Red">If we can pull off this trade for just Eddie and Malik Allen, then this is a GREAT TRADE for the HEAT.</font> Maybe a 3rd Team will join the mix and really make this interesting!!!

I wonder if it is going to happen, will it happen before Christmas? or am I pushing it too fast?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jalen Rose is actually very Odom-like, their games are very similar but Rose is a much better shooter and a better defender.</div> Jalen Rose is one of the worst perimeter defenders in the league lol, he's only better defnesively than Glenn Robinson and on the same level of someone like maybe Keith Van Horn, but he's definately not a better defender than Odom, and the rebounding is very far. Rose will give Miami 15-4-4 though, and he won't shoot 35% from the field like EJ was. With this trade the Heat would immediately be a very very serious contender, and having Donyell who is a shooting PF who will spread the floor even more, and is a decent defender [better than Haslem], and also a good reboundr, it will be good. Donyell can also score down low, and he's a good player all-around really. If Donyell were to start he would average something like 15 points, 9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and hit like 2-3 three's a game. This lineup: PG: Damon Jones SG: Dwyane Wade SF: Jalen Rose PF: Donyell Marshall C: Shaq When it's on would spread the floor so much for the Heat, and with ZO coming off the bench, and Haslem either being a starter or coming off the bench if he's not involved, the Heat get froncourt depth, and even more shooting. Shaq and Wade would have so much space to operate, I mean if you double Shaq, Donyell can fly to the corner or wing and hit that three. .....now for the Raptors, why would we ever want Eddie Jones, and I wouldn't do this trade unless we're getting Dorell Wright and/or a first round pick [not that it would be high anyways] or something, I mean Donyell is a pretty good player, and would start over Bosh is Bosh wasn't younger and a building block on our team, and Jalen is still a good offensive player, so that for crappy EJ is nasty...
EJ's doing better, SVG stopped running plays that have him making jumpshots. In the last 3 games combined he's shooting 17-33 (51%) and averaging 13ppg. These new plays ran for him allow him to be productive on the offensive end while allowing him to get back his shooting touch. But I think Jalen Rose would be a better fit cuz he's a natural SF and EJ doesn't fit into the new lineup where Wade plays SG. But like heatfan posted, Riley doesn't want to make a trade right now and disrupt what we have going here. He's gonna do like Detroit did with Rasheed Wallace and wait and see what issues we need to address before he makes a move. Also I'm becoming more convinced that Zo is gonna buyout his contract. From the reports I read he's not even going to report to Toronto. Having him injured isn't gonna do us any good atm and the Heat don't wanna take on an injury prone player's contract with our cap situation.
ZO can't buy out his contract because the Raptors have to do it and offer him the buyout amount, and he wants to leave but doesn't want to lose his money. I'll tell you one thing, the Raptors are cheap, we don't waiver players unless we really really have to, and we don't buyout contracts to often, so if ZO wants to leave he can't be expecting to get a lot of money in the buyout.
There's a new rumour out: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">jalen rose, donyell marshall for eddie jones, malik allen, wesley person, and dorell wright then toronto would buy out Zo's contract and miami would sign him for the vets minimum </div> Don't like it cuz we give up Dorell Wright. og15: I know the team has to buy out the contract but Zo is more likely to take an offer to buy out his contract now that he might not be happy in his current situation. He wanted to originally take the buy out to sign with Miami but was told to be patient because he could be traded. I understand that the Raps are stingy about buying out contracts but who knows? I bet no one thought they would get crap for the VC trade.
