It's time someone blasted this guy. He offers zilch to espn2/tnt. He makes you dumber just listening to him. He has proven to be incapable of forming anything resambling a wellthought out and rational commentary. Basically his only method of backing up his arguement is to shout louder than the other guys. You can almost feel their embarrasment for him. Theyre tryuing to talk about basketball in a convincing and thoughtful way for the audience and they have to deal with his endless stream of babble. Im not questioning why he has his job. Like Woody Paige, he continues to get work in the biusness despite a complete lack of knowledge and insight because he knows how to be in-your-face and make the audience mad an generated contreversy which generates ratings (It's sort of like how you see certain ads on tv that really just annoy you. ad companies know that no one likes those ads but an ad that makes you angry is just as good to them as an ad that makes you mad because you remember how annoying it was and therefor you remember the product and thats all they care about). ANyway, here's alist of potential replacements that would offer just as much if not more to the show than Stephen A. Smith:

    My 15-year old sister
    My 1.5 year old cousin
the raving drug attict who lives in the alley downtown
the chair that Stephen sits in during the show
    My Dog
My old shoes i dont where anymore
    Richard Simmons
    a wagon full of pankcakes
that volley ball that Tom Hanks made friends with in that castaway movie
Any Fast Food employee or Cab driver
Hepatitis (or any other germ or virus)
the pile of magazines in my closet
the moles on Lemmy from Motorheads face
    a hole in the ground
that dead pigeon that fell on my car
those midgets from that Kiss tribute band
    Grizzly Adams' beard
    a bucket of fish
Joan Rivers (sorry. that was way out of line. i didnt mean that one).

while we are it, why don't we dismiss rush limbaugh(sp.), ted nugent, bill o'reilly, and the other dimwits that work for fox news.

Well, since one of your arguments is that he doesn't have well thought out arguments and rational comments, then maybe you don't like Charles Barkley, because most of the time, he doesn't even talk about subjects. But, I'm just saying. I for one really like Stephen A. Smith and Charles Barkley. They're the ones that make the show what it is, plus Stephen does have well thought and legit arguments, maybe you're focusing on his yelling more than what he's saying. But I like TNT better though.

CHarles Barkley says some dumb things to be sure but Charles gets some slack because he's a legit NBA legend. Stephen A. Smith totally doesnt have well thought out arguements. All he is is loud. Hes one of those powerful kinds of stupid where he can actually be right but sound like he doesnt have a clue what hes talking about which is true most of the time

You can add Bill Walton to that list. I don't hate Bill though, he may not know what the hell he's talking about or talk about things that absolutely doesn't make sense (this is not an exaggeration) but he amuses me nevertheless.. I think in a Rockets game, Yao dunked and Bill proceeds to comment: "Look at Yao Ming. He's tall. He's beautiful. What's there not to love about him?"

I was disturbed.. Not only did that have nothing to do with basketball, it also didn't make any sense...

^[IMG] word son. I use to hate SA in the beginning because he always made like he knew everything and just had that arrogant look to him that pissed me off basically. But maybe after 4 months I got used to him and I've liked him since. Him and Greg Anthony are an incredible dual for entertainment. I still like Kenny and Charles better, but I do like espn halftime shows as well now.

Yall are dumb, SA makes too much sense at times. Not too add he actually has a personality unlike alot of the ESPN basketball announcers. Anyoen who says he makes no sense is a retard.

I love the guy's demeanour, but I wouldn't be relying on him for expert opinions.

At times he can be very right and at times he can be very wrong. I remember one time I was watching Fact or Fiction, and one of the questions was "With Shaq gone, will the Lakers still make the playoffs?" and Stephen A said "OF COURSE, THEY HAVE KOBE BRYANT!!!". I also love how he gets serious at times too. When he was discussing the Pacers/Pistons brawl, he looked dead straight into the camera and said "This was absolutley the ugliest things I have ever seen." All in all, we need somebody like Stephen A, to bring humor and analysis to basketball.

He knows his basketball? He just regurgitates everything that every other analyst says....

I am starting to feel that "most" analysts don't really know anything about basketball. Just look at all the team predictions for this year and last years playoffs.

He's my favorite sports reporter. I think he has good points and I love it when he starts arguing with Greg Anthony and Tim Legler. He's just very straight forward and doesn't care what people think while Legler and Anthony kiss up sometimes.
