Igoudala building case for rookie honor By David DuPree, USA TODAY <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Iguodala, who plays a combination shooting guard-small forward position, is the only one of the rookies in the top 10 in all eight of the standard statistical categories ? scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, blocked shots, field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage. USA TODAY subjectively picked 10 early rookie-of-the-year candidates and ranked them against each other in four statistical categories that encompass formulas to measure every aspect of the game. The player who performs best in a category gets one point, down to 10 for the worst score. The lowest total is theoretically the rookie-of-the-year leader. Iguodala finished seven points better than Okafor and Howard, who are tied for second. "He's a stat-sheet stuffer," said Iguodala's teammate, Aaron McKie. "He rebounds, he defends, he can do a lot of little things. He's full of energy, ready to play at all times." </div> Very good article about our rook. I'm glad finally the 76ers have a rookie that is being noticed around the league. It seems that we haven't had one since Larry Hughes (wow, that seems like a long time). Igoudala is probably the most impressive rookie the 76ers have had in the past, but it is expected considering he is also the highest rookie draft pick the Sixers have had in a while. I think Iggy is going to be a good swing man in the future for us much like what Corey Maggette provides the Clippers. I think he will be our future star, and leader along with someone we may aquire in a trade. I think we have the second best young nucleus in the nba if we can keep them together with Sam Dalembert, Wllie green, Kyle Korver, Andre Igoudala, and even John Salmons if we can sign him to a cheap contract. This is a team whois set for the future how much sucess will they have when Allen Iverson retires in the future depends on how fast these players develope. If Igoudala is a twenty point scorer a game when AI leaves then I think we will continue to be a good team, but if he is not fully developed into that type of player we will not have that much success, but I do expect him to be at that level before AI retires since he still have a lot of years left in him.
I'm very impressed by Iguodala. The ability that he has so far, to come in only after his sophmore season and cover the other team's best scorer is shocking to me. The last couple of games he has shown some offensce too, filling in as a #2 scorer next to Iverson. Overall I think Iguodala has a serious case for rookie of the year, the first time since Hughes maybe even Iverson.
They only reason I think he will not recieve ROY is becasue Okafor's #'s are really good and that's usually what they look for when giving this out. Take last year for example, Lebron's #'s were a little better than Melo's when Melo actually helped his team get into the playoffs for the 1st time in a long time.
^and the other reason I think is because there's Iverson beside Iguodala, Iverson is the main actor and Iguodala is just a supporting cast whilst Okafor is the main actor in Charlotte. If both teams are into playoff, what will people normally think? Iverson brings Sixers into the playoff, Okafor brings Bobcats into the playoff, but you'll never or hardly even hear people saying Iguodala brings Sixers into the playoff.
Andre has been pretty good for us. He is a nice all around player and he fills the stat sheet almost every night, his versatility really gives the Sixers help. There is still a lot of room for improvement though, I understand he is young and still a rook, but I wish he were a little more consistant with his scoring. If he keeps up the good work we'll see his stats get better and better every year; it seems that he is one that may take a little time though. But I know he is going to be a big time player in the future.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">They only reason I think he will not recieve ROY is becasue Okafor's #'s are really good and that's usually what they look for when giving this out.</div> Exactly. The NBA looks at the numbers, and when they see double digits in at least one category you're automatically up there for the award. Now while Iguodala will get some recognition for his all-around play, he needs to be in double figures in at least one category (preferably scoring) to give him a much better shot at the R.OY. Despite, Iguodala ?stat sheet filler? type stats, Okafor numbers are better primarily because he has double figures in at least one category. Despite how much I like Iggy, Okafor is the true R.O.Y. His numbers are amazing, and he just tied Shaquille O'Neal for most consecutive double-doubles as a rookie. Even though Andre Iguodala is stat sheet filler, he doesn't deserve it more than Okafor. While it?s likely that Iguodala won?t win the R.O.Y, there is nothing to be ashamed about. He has helped this team a lot, and game by game he's just getting better, especially offensively. So while Iguodala may not get it, he needs to continue what he's doing because he will be a great player and you never know he may be end up being better than the player that might win the R.O.Y.
