The last three seasons, the WNBA Champion has resulted in it's neighbouring NBA team winning the next title. You build to win titles. Once we win this season, we can start again.
This is going to be a tricky offseason. There are so many questions right now. Is Ray going to leave? He said that if an agreement on an extension is not reached by the all-star break then he is out the door. I really think this depends on our performance in the playoffs. if we win the title or come near to it then I definately see him coming back but if we lose in the 1st or 2nd round then I would be very concerned about Ray's future. If Ray jets than do we resign flip and if Rays stays do we let flip go? do we keep Vlad at whatever the cost? A lot of this depends on wether or not Allen stays with the team. If Allen leaves then we are going to need to replace the scoring that we lose in Allen. That would mean that Vlad would become a very important piece to this team's success and him returning would be a top priorty. I think the organization has already decided the most that they will give Vlad. The question is, will Vlad be offered a larger contract from another team? And don't forget Nate is also in the last year of his contract. I think management has to give him a big contract and lock him up longterm. It should be a very exciting offseason, and hopefully an even more exciting playoffs .
Vlad is such a tricky one. We all know what he's capable of, but in essence we would be signing him specifically to come off the bench. Reggie's done too much to be ignored by management, we all know what Danny brings to the table, and Nick has IMO shown a fair bit in his belated rookie season. Rashard is now an All-Star. Sign and trade? If we match an offer for Vlad, unless it's reasonably cheap, we're paying him to keep coming off the bench. Personally I can see him signing a one year qualifiying offer and then taking stock of things as an unrestricted FA at the end of 05/06.
