There is some truth to that. But as far as him being an MVP candidate, it would be possible but his team as sub .500 record and thus he is automatically ruled out for MVP talk. However, I can almost promise you if Iverson keeps a similar pace like he's on right now, preferably like 28 PPG along with 7-8 APG, and gets his team at least 3 games over .500 he will start getting some recognition for the MVP. But as far as winning, that's a long shot, he would need to get the 76ers at least 8-10 games over .500 to get it.

    - Avery

Avery posted this in the "Allen Iverson" thread and I'm not trying to comment on what he has to say or anything. I thought I would make a new topic since this comment got me thinking about Iverson's chances at MVP and Sixers chance at making the playoffs. We started off bumpy and then it got better with a couple of wins in a row then we just slid down all the way near the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Last two weeks we have went 4-3. Also Iverson has been heating up like crazy. This is not only an upside but a huge one at that. We are nearing the trade deadline everyday and we can get better offers for Robinson. We are beginning to play real basketball without everyone standing around. Korver, Iggy and Dalembert are all progressing really well, and all around things are looking up. I just want to argue that from now on, that from here on out things are looking up. We will easily be in first place in the Atlantic Division by the end of the season. Ever since the 00-01 season we have been sliding down and I'm just saying from here on out we are going no where but up. The Sixers have never been this promising. All we need is a big man at this point. We should try to get Alonzo Mourning or some dominant center. Remember in the 00-01 season we traded Ratliff for Mutumbo because Ratliff got injured? What happened after that... we were on fire and we didn't get stopped. We had the second best record in the league tied with the Lakers who we met in the finals. By the way the trade that involved Ratliff, Nazr Mohammad, and Toni Kukoc was the biggest rip off. Not only did we send a center who developed into a true center like the ones in the old days but we sent Nazr Mohammad who also has turned into a awesome center for the New York Knicks our division rivals. Funny huh? So the key to us winning this season depends on the Glenn Robinson , either he comes back from his idleness and sparks the Sixers for a late run in his career or we trade him and get a center or big man we could really use and make a REAL run at the playoffs. Not only the playoffs but the Eastern Confrence title as well. Any comments?

I don't know, I just don't see them going on a 10- game winning streak and be considered one of the elite teams this season. They not only have to get a big man, but their perimeter defense has to improve. They also have to play CONSISTENTLY. They will scored like 13 points in the third quarter and lid up for 38 in the fourth. Or they will play good in the first half, and then give up the lead in the fourth. I was watching CSN's daily news talk or whatever that thing is called and Dee Lynam said maybe they don't have the right players for Jim Obie's defensive system or they just haven't been playing like themselves yet. I think if the Sixers don't make the playoffs this season, they have to draft a big man. Trade Kenny Thomas and Glenn Robinson. The reason why they should trade Kenny Thomas is because he's overpaid. Yes he is a extremely underrated and good player but he does not deserve a 50 something million dollar contract. Also, he is too short to be a power foward, no matter how many rebounds he gets. It's always better to have a taller big man for you. This organization is in such a confusion right now. It all depends on the development of their young players. But take my words, they will NOT be a great team this seaon, a playoff team is definitely possible, but they have a chance to be an elite team in this league in the future depending on their young players. Sorry I kinda went all over the place on this post.

I pretty much agree with your entire post zEx69. The 76ers are playing better, and they are now starting to play as a team. But will they do good enough to give Iverson a chance at the MVP or even be declared as one the league elite teams? No. The 76ers will finish a couple games over .500 I believe and win the Atlantic Division at the same time, but they will not do so well to the point where they will be among the league elites. It?s just not going to happen, but once they reach the Playoff?s anything can happen.

I think this team could possibly go places, if they reach the climax of their potential. For us to be worrying about playoffs or winning the division this team has to come together and play likes a team first.

I also think we're still missing the piece that makes us a contender over a pretender. Last year the Pistons were the same way, and they made a great move to get Sheed. Look at them now.

Allen is playing like a mvp right now and all of us know that, but how far can that take us, I know this may sound funny but Alllen Iverson can't do it all by himself anymore.

Elite team no? but can they go on a big win streak soon? yes. Two seasons ago when the 76ers made the playoffs during the steetch run of the year the stretch run of the season Allen Iverson led us on a seven game win streak. It just shows that with AI or any dominate player a team can go on a win streak at any time. As much as I hate him I think if Robinson comes back we will go on a win streak for a couple of games due to the extra scoring we will have. Van Horn was our last second option that was around when we went on that seven game win streak and his defense was not any better than Robinsons, but his scoring helped take the defense attention away from Iverson and open things up which is what Robinson would be able to do. The rest of the team could pick up the slack for him on defense with help defense if his man penetrates.
