His name is Micah Downs and he is from my homestate.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Micah Downs told The Seattle Times yesterday that he intends to apply for the 2005 NBA draft and forgo a basketball scholarship to Kansas.

The 6-foot-8, 195-pound senior forward at Juanita High School, who signed a national letter of intent with the Jayhawks in November, is considered one of the top prep players in the nation according to several recruiting services.

I'm not totally convinced of Downs yet, he really needs to add more weight but other than that from what I've heard he is the real deal. Possibly another Robert Swift type situation again.

If I was that nice I would go to college, get nicer and then go to the league. Sometimes you wonder if kids these days do it for the money, and the fame.

Well...we could've used him here at KU...but that's cool, just maybe not the best decision. I've heard of him...know little about him though.

Kansas would of been better, now he will sit on the bench just like Darko Milicic.

He does not look too differant than me in terms of athletic proportion...and that is not exactly good, as that will mean that he is going to get pushed around as if he was not even on the court.

I agree big mistake. Also will it kill these kids to go to college first, I mean it doesn't make a difference, in your first 3 years in the NBA you'll be sitting on the bench anyways. Just play in college for three years, leave as a junior, come to the league and make an quick and big impact. Not everybody is Lebron James you know, the NBA really needs an age limit.

Plus this kid will get thrown around like a rag doll in the key of the paint in the NBA. Take Shaq 325 lbs. compared to this kid who is 195 lbs. it's not even close. At least Lebron was physically ready to take his game to the NBA along with everybody eles that left from high school.

And were saying all this stuff if he does get drafted, what if he doesn't get drafted like say Jackie Butler, the high schooler that declared for last year's draft. He didn't get drafted and he looks like a fool now for not going to college. I am asking him now to just pull his name out and go to college.

Come on lets give the guy some credit. He hasn't signed an agent which still leaves him open to going to college. Also, everyone is making him out to be a post up banger guy but his game is more versatile than that. I mean in order to play effectively in the NBA he will need to gain a significant amount of weight but with his type of game he could be mildly successful I think.

I don't see him getting any burn though. Man if I was that talented I would've been gone to college. He's just doing it for the bread.

okay his dad is a handyman, he has 3 other siblings and my guess because of him moving around the country is that they live below the poverty line. if i was in that predicament i would explore going pro as well. and btw, i really don't understand why the insensitive comments about this kids appearance is tolerated at JBB.

Look at him man, if I saw him I would ask him what middle shool he was in, and check out those earings. Well now on to his skills, he is a less talented Chris Bosh, and he looks like him too. I don't see him going much higher than top 5 of the second round. I started hearing whispers about him last year, but he isn't even one of the top 10 high school seniors, this is a mistake if he goes through with his plan.

So what if he's in it for the money? If I were in the same situation as him, I'd go pro too. I can guarantee that almost all the players in the NBA are in it for the money. If they had made the NBA a non-paying organization, I can guarantee that 90% would move over to some other foreign leagues. Why? Of course it's money.

There's nothing wrong in wanting money, you just have to know your limits.
