<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Friends say he would end his semiretirement for the right opportunity, for a chance to win a record 10th championship and break a tie with Red Auerbach. But it might not take the lure of a ring to return to the bench. It may only take sentimentality. Given the right circumstances, Jackson would embrace a return to New York to coach the Knicks, the team that drafted him in 1967. And though he is uneasy talking about a job that is currently filled by Lenny Wilkens, Jackson cannot deny the intrigue. "There's a process teams go through to put themselves in a competitive place," Jackson said in a telephone interview. "And when they get to that position, I felt like if they want me to coach that team, I'd have to listen to them, because of my connections in New York and my connections as a Knick. But I certainly don't want to step in and muddy the water around Lenny Wilkens. He's a great coach. I'm very respectful of him.</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Asked yesterday about Jackson, Wilkens spat, "I couldn't care less what's in the paper about Phil Jackson. Really. That's his thing. I don't worry about stuff like that." When asked if it were against coaching etiquette to address a position that is not vacant, Wilkens said, "Most coaches don't." Jackson has said repeatedly he won't coach this season, so his remarks have no current relevance. But if Wilkens finished out the season and were whacked this summer, certainly Thomas will reach out to the former role player who was a member of the Knicks' two championship teams. Jackson confidants, however, don't think Jackson and Isiah would make a perfect match because of their big egos</div> First 2 Paragraphs Link (registration required) Last Paragraph New York Post Well, quites frankly I would rather have anyone right now then Lenny Wilkens. I see Lenny Wilkens as a mediocre coach but, the way he has been coaching as of late, anyone else deserves a shot at coaching us. That zone on the Mavericks really killed me. I know Phil Jackson had the privelege of having Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquile O'neal as players however, I they were not doing much before he got there. Even if he did not have those hall of fame/hall of fame to be players, he still is atleast a decent coach and better than Lenny Wilkens. If Lenny surprises us and the Knicks end the season on a great positive note due to his coaching then maybe we can think about keeping him. If things don't improve if Phil Jackson is interested we have nothing to lose but, to take a look at things. I am not the greatest fan of the triangle offense but, I heard that Allan Houston fits perfectly with it. I also read something in the paper about LA considering trading Houston for Kobe because of how great a fit he was. Btw, Happy Holidays you guys at the Knicks board. You have really made me feel welcome. For those who celebrate Hanukkah, I wish you a happy belated one! For those who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas! For those who celebrate Kwanzaa, I wish you a early Happy Kwanzaa. And for those who celebrate other Holidays have a happy one as well!
This is surprising to say the least. I often heard of Phil Jackson this, and Phil Jackson that, but I never knew that this was something legitimate. I like Lenny Wilkens, I just don't think he is a correct fit for the New York Knicks despite what Isiah Thomas thinks. I would love to see Phil Jackson on the New York Knicks bench, coaching. He could help in so many ways, he would be a great asset to Jamal Crawford and Trevor Ariza. It's hard for me to think that Isiah Thomas won't pursue this possibility, I hope and for some reason I think, ultimately Phil Jackson will be the head coach of the New York Knicks. Haha, how great would that be, and I do think it will make the team better also. The New York Knicks are 13-13 and they should be better than that, too many home games lost, and who could forget their loss to Charlotte Bobcats earlier. There has been too many games that should have been one, simple, and a 13-13 record frankly isn't good enough in my opinion. I would love to see Phil Jackson head coach the New York Knicks, that way I will be more confident in a 2nd round NBA Playoff birth.
This is so ridiculous. I am growing more and more disgusted with the media by the day. Give me a break. Jackson? Imagine Jackson teaching morons like Tim Thomas the triangle offense. Please. I could write another 30 paragraphs about why this wouldn't work, but I'm not going to bother. This story, or the prospects - the both of them aren't worthy of my time, or anybody else's. That's not to say I wouldn't like the move - just that it's too early to put this out and that the team isn't ready for Phil yet. That's why I haven't posted these types of articles - they're not worth the time.
I am at the point where that as long as it's not Lenny Wilkens coaching i'll be happy. He needs to retire. I'm sick of him. I almost wish I had the other guy back. Almost. Phil Jackson would be a definite upgrate over Lenny but it's not going to happen. Then again I never thought we would trade TT for Van Horn so I could be wrong. What I really want is a hard taskmaster like Riley or Van Gundy. A coach who can motivate our players and coach them rather than let the players coach themselves. That's what the Knicks need. A Van Gundy type but where will we get one of those? We're stuck with Lenny. By the way just in case some of you dont know, Isiah Thomas is NOT going to take over as coach. I think you all already know this but I'm saying this just in case.
Well, Knicks Analyst...I really doubt Phil Jackson would attempt to teach the Knicks the triangle offense. Plus, don't forget that it was Tex Winter...not Phil...that was the mind behind the triangle. Phil kept the two stars from clashing...he maintained control of the egos...he was a mediator.

I believe it was a Daily News article that said so this past summer. I'll try to find the article in my article archives folder on my computer, but I can't make any promises.

I don't know who he would run it through...or if Marbury would even be happy with the triangle.

If I remember correctly, he said he would attempt to mix in elements of it. I am not 100% sure though. I doubt Marbury would like it, but it was noted as a possibility that Marbury would have to deal with it and make sacrifices for the good of the team. <font color="Navy">*</font>I'm still looking.
Dr. Phil I think Phil Jackson would be a great fit for New York. He is great at taking individual's talents and meshing them together and that is what the knicks need. There have been questions (knicks analyst) about him teaching the triange to the Knicks less inteligent players (TT) but I doubt he would completely overhaul the system midseason. He would wait till next offseason which would give him plently of time plus ther eis a lot of speculation that TT will be gone next year.
I'll say one thing about this, if he does decide to coach the Knicks they will turn into a winning team. Just because phil Jackson is the coach he doesn't have to use one play. He used it with the Bulls and the Lakers because they had the players to run the play effectivly. Phil will chang his coaching style to the players ability that he has.
