Before the game in the starting lineups, Pietrus was penciled in as the SF but then Dunleavy was penciled in. I thought this was due to Dunleavy still not being in game shape. Well Dunleavy split the minutes with Pietrus in the 1st half and then Pietrus played the entire 2nd half. Pietrus' minutes have been going up throughout the entire year. It seems that Monty loves Pietrus and I wouldn't be suprised if Pietrus starts sometime this year with Dunleavy coming off the bench. I actually like this move because Pietrus is so active but all he does is shoot three's. He's gotta drive or take some mid range J's. Last night though when the warriors had the lead late, he made the smart move by slowing the ball down and letting the clock run. His defense is still good but has some more learning to do. Last year nobody could get by him and now people do. I'm guessing that's due to the tighter handcheck rules enforced by the refs but I hope Pietrus gets all of his aggressive attitude back.

Pietrus doesn't really understand the offense and he his shot selection isn't that good. He makes a few mistakes here and there and he is in love with the three. Also he hasn't really done as good D as he did last year. He is a much better athlete and player than Dunleavy and a much better shooter and is much better at getting fouled than Dunleavy. Also Dunleavy can't play good D against many players. If the Flying Frenchman continues to shine, I think he will be a good starter and leader. Part of the reason Dunleavy has been starting, is also that the front office (Chris Mullin) is in love with Dunleavy and want to get rid of Pietrus. Pietrus is a good starter most of the time and has hustle, quickness, good D, better shots, and energy that Dunleavy lacks. Also Pietrus can score 10 points in a little amount of time which is something that we haven't seen Dunleavy do very often. And do you notice how Dunleavy fouls early, often, and when he is hot?
Pietrus's smoothness of play reminds me of Chris Andersen. They are two high-energy, athletic players, that are kind of out of control. Then again, maybe Pietrus isn't as out of control as Andersen, but the sometimes bad decision making is the result of trying to win that starting spot or to just plain WIN I think. He's had professional experience as a ball player and he has tremendous confidence. He knows if he wows the heck out of people and outperforms Dunleavy, he may crack the starting rotation and help win the game. I think he could be pressing at times, but his energy is so contagious you just need him to keep Richardson on his feet. Plus I think he best makes up for the problem you have when Richardson nor Murphy can't defend as well. He keeps people from driving the lane by staying in front of them. Also he is not afraid of shooting and always stays aggressive.
Pietrus just needs to learn the offense and keep the energy and his shockingness and he might just win a starting spot.

Pietrus needs to start based solely on his defensive ability. Has anyone noticed since Dunleavy has been gone the Warriors have played much better defense overall? Gee, I wonder why?

That's ubsurd. Mullin is a player he knows that Dunleavy is a liability on defense. If Pietrus keeps playing well there is no way he would get rid of Pietrus unless it was for someone great. Mullin may love Dunleavy, but he wont deny that Pietrus is outplaying him in certain parts of the game.

I mean why would St. Jean trade Jamison for an expired knee and stuff like that? Because Mullin forced him.
He did not trade Jamison to clear the way for his golden boy to start. He traded Jamison to clear the way to re sign Richardson and Murphy...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">He did not trade Jamison to clear the way for his golden boy to start. He traded Jamison to clear the way to re sign Richardson and Murphy...</div> Yeah. You got a point, but why trade Jamison for someone like NVE?
NVE was there to take the place of Jamison's salary. NVE had the option to opt out last year. If NVE opted out he would have that contract available right away to either go after a major free agent, or resign his core of Jrich, murphy and Dunleavy. Worst case scenario was that NVE had 2 years left on his contract after that in which case it would still be soon enough to resign his players. And NVE was a decent player before he came here with his knee problems. He could have easily lead our team to the playoffs if his knee was not bothering him...

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">He did not trade Jamison to clear the way for his golden boy to start. Jamison gets less than 14 mils per year in average, Richardson gets 12 mils per year in average and Murphy gets 10 mils per year in average. So, in a sense, we trade Jamison for just one of those two guys, and trading Jamison wasn't even close to cover their salaries. Besides, we COULD have retained both Richardson and Murphy while keeping Jamison (Fisher and Foyle makes same money per year as what Jamison makes), and if we made smart financial decisions (like not signing Fisher or getting Najera), we might be able to retain Pietrus at the same time. Besides, when they traded Jamison, they had no idea whether they would resign Richardson and Murphy or not. The deal was made for future financial freedom, AND give starting job for Dunleavy, whom they trusted a lot at that point...
