It was just said on 610 Sports Radio that the Rockets had the following trade on the table, and chose not to take it...

    Jim Jackson
    Maurice Taylor
    1st Round Pick

    David Wesley
    P.J. Brown

Not sure if Bostjan would have been a possible substitute for the pick, and hopefully the Rockets at least tried to offer that. In the end they were scared to give away the 1st rounder, which makes no sense, considering they haven't acquired anyone through the draft worth their own weight in dog crap, aside from Steve and Yao.

I would have actually pushed for such a trade, as it would help our point guard position considering all the injuries, and it would basically solve our entire power forward dilemma. Sure, P.J. Brown's contract is only marginally smaller than Taylor's, but he's the exact type of player we need, and unlike Taylor, he'd be worth the money. We could have then split time at the SF between McGrady, Nochbar, and Padgett. I think this trade would have made our team more well rounded, and solved more problems than it caused, unlike the trade that ultimately did go down.

CD needs to re-evaluate his position with this team. Unless he makes a remarkable trade in the next few weeks he's dug himself and this organization into quite a hole.

this cant be true...i find it unbelievable...does CD have that much faith in MO Taylor??? Atleast we would have been getting a rebounding/tough interior forward who does dirty work...I dont get this, its like CD is trying to make us even worse...

I'm quite frustrated and confused...what exactly is going on???...

CD wants the rockets to be a lottery team, Im convinced, thats why he wont trade away that number 1 pick. He doesnt care about the team, hes looking 10 years into the future. CD at the moment is on the same level of jerry krause. One minute you think hes a genius the next you want to kill him.

the rockets didn't draft steve, they got him from the grizzlies. so they got one good player in the draft and it was pretty much a no-brainer that season to begin with.. look at the past draft record for the rockets... eddie griffin for 3 picks? one being richard jefferson? granted they haven't had a lot of first round picks.. but the last good player drafted by the rockets was probably mobley in '98. (excluding mike dickerson who retired already)

Ahh yes, I oversimplified a bit. Indeed the Rockets did not draft Steve, but they did acquire him through the draft. Also, Mobley was a great steal, but then we got rid of him of course...

I find this too good to be true. If the Rockets were indeed offered that trade, I don't think they will have refused. The Hornets might be in a hole right now, but I doubt they'd want to break their team up even more by trading their best post player right now. This offer was too good to be true.

Too good to be true? The reason was the first rounder. You know you're management has problems when the Hornets are the one pushing the deal. If the Rockets were smart about it, we could've thrown in Boki, and made them give us a first rounder. We'd take a contract similar to Mo's and take older (by average) players. It would be a 3 for 2. I don't see how this deal would benefit at all. We wouldn't have a pick, and would have to rely on a dying TE and whatever the MLE we wasted on Ward for the rest of this season, and maybe next season. We really don't have anymore trade bait. The Rockets through away both of the things that would clinch the deal. A developing shooter, and a journeyman who can fit in any system, for a shooter, who on the worst team in the NBA, averages 13 points a game. Even Boki could do that. The Rockets shouldn't have approached the Hornets in the first place. We coulda had a deal with the Nuggets for a Pick, The Suns, whose GM loves Boki, the Lakers, Rudy drafted Boki.. Even if Wesley scores 15 a game, rebounding and defense are lacking. He might play good defense for a 6'1" guy, but he can't fill JJ's shoes. Just my 2 cents.
