<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You guys have a real easy one</div> Not quite. I find this one very difficult actually. There are so many negatives to choose from, that I don't even know where to start... Well the biggest negative about Walker is his ball handling/responsibility (Pretty much the same thing in Walker case). Antoine Walker is not Jason Kidd or Allen Iverson, the ball handling duties should be left in the PG hands, not his. He often tries to run the team as if he's a PG when he?s playing the PF, and he often also tries to do Jason Kidd like passes. i.e. behind the back, wrap around, thread the needle etc. and all this does is lead to turnovers. While the likes of Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson lead the league in turnovers, Antoine Walker is the most turnover prone player in the league. He just doesn?t play as much minutes and doesn?t have the ball as much as Iverson and Bryant thus that is why he doesn?t lead the league in turnovers. A player at Antoine Walker caliber should not be handling the ball period. Instead he should be in the low post where he does most of his damage. It? doesn?t matter what team he?s on whether it?s Boston, Dallas or Atlanta he just doesn?t know his role. First he?s a PG, next he?s Peja lurking around the 3-Point line and then he?s Shaq dominating in the low post. So my advice to Walker is find who you are, and pick your poison. And once you do find out whom you are? stick with it. You can?t have a different identity on every possession. It?s just that simply. Thank God, he doesn?t attempt to be Vince Carter.
I agree with Avery...strongly agree. Another negative for Walker is his free throw shooting. I don't understand how he can hit threes, but shoot nearly 50% from the line. It doesn't make sense to me.
I agree with you Avery on how Walker should find who he is a stick with it. He is also too inconsistant.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Not quite. I find this one very difficult actually. Btw, JKiDD05NeTs avi got me thinking he was hunter for a little bit. Then I took a closer look.
I think I can sum up in one sentence that shall describe almost all of the negatives about AW: He thinks that he is better than he really is when in reality he misses more shots than he takes.
There are players like Kirilenko who help the team in filling up the stat sheet. There are players like Walker who hurt the team by doing everything. He needs to realize how bad he is and just concentrate on just doing a few good things.
Dallasdude, I agree with you. Walker would be a better player if he stuck to a role and didnt try to be Peja one play and Kidd the next. I wouldnt mind walker nearly as much if he had a stable role on the Hawks, I think the Hawks could pull out wins easier if Walker stayed level headed and made himself a factor in the game. For Example, look at Al Harrington, he has a stable role, and he finds himself doing the same thing night in night out and look at how much more he matters to the Hawks than 'Toine.
This is from something I posted in the Knicks forum....<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Walker is a self-described "volume scorer". Yes, he actually said that in response to a member of the media who questioned his horrendous field goal percentage. He said something to the effect of, "I'm the kind of player that needs a lot of shots to score 20+". I am a firm believer that just about anybody that plays in the NBA could've put up the numbers that Antoine did with the amount of offensive freedom he was given by Jim O'Brien. His last year as a Celtic, he was the worst shooter in the NBA among players who averaged at least 8 points per game (38.8%). Only 5 players that year took more shots than he did, unfortunately. He was among the worst 3-point shooters in the league that year, but for some reason he decided to jack up almost 600 of them. To top it all off, even Shaquille O'Neal had a better free-throw percentage than him that season. If that isn't frustrating enough for you, you also get to see (every once and a while) that he is actually a talented player in the post, as well as a great rebounder. It all begs the question of why he doesn't spend more of his time down low. He doesn't because he is more content shooting 3's and driving wildly towards the basket in order to throw up prayers in the general direction of the backboard. I won't even mention how he disappears in the playoffs....</div>
The only positive thing I can think of, is that he has nice touch. The ball doesn't always go into the rim, but at the same time you can't deny the fact that he has nice soft touch, especially when he's within the 7-10ft range.
Hawks are just a bad team. I'd say they're another Josh Smith/Josh Childress away from being something. Antoine Walker can't be your go to guy. He was 2nd option In Boston and a 4th in Dallas.
