Hmm what do you guys think of that. I couldnt believe my eyes when i saw that. I think overall Kobe is a better play and has better game than T-Mac.The stats explain it too. Kobe is giving 28/7/7 and T-Mac is never close to that. I hope people reconsider since All Star games shouldnt be judge as a popularity contest basis

Simple...two factors. Kobe is the devil, and McGrady is receiving votes from his old Magic fans and his new Rocket fans.

kobe lost a lot of fans during the rape trial incident. that could explain why he's falling behind in votes

well i think the votes really dont matter. because we all know kobe is going to make the allstar team and play a conssiderable amount.

I mean it would be unprecedented to not play a player of his caliber. i would be really shocked to not see him make the allstar team.

i'm not surprised really. Kobe's got alot of fans, and alot of people that hate him. He is the George W. Bush and the Micheal Moore of basketball, there's no in between.

that being said i prefer Mcgrady's game. He's putting up some good numbers, calculated for equal minutes his pts, rbs, and assists #'s are comparable to Kobe's. His %'s are also a bit better, and his TO's are about half of what Kobe's are.
    I voted for Mcgrady personally.

I'm not bashing McGrady's game...but I think my reasons are exactly why.

Vince will more than likely be there...but has he earned his spot? It works like that.

    Simple
A lot of (or all of) Yao Ming's fans now vote for T-Mac since he's their nation star's partner.

i dont think mcgrady's getting many votes from old magic fans, or raptors fans. Mcgrady didnt want to be there, and fans take those kinds of things personally.
Texas has alot of population though, which helps his cause. California's no slouch either, but i think its pretty even when choosing who deserves it more. Both are pretty equal players

McGrady has fans on the Rockets and the Magic, so he'll get more votes, and I can't stand all the people who bring up stats for All-Star game votes, the majority of the people vote for who they like, not who has better numbers, so stop lol.

The Media had the most influence on the votes.

It has nothing to do with how good a player is but, to put fans in thier seats. Also "who do I like the best" is in the fans mind as well. For example, Yao over Shaq.

but why is mcgrady over kobe so ridicoulous?
Its not that lob sided a question....i mean there are more lobsided ones. Like Vince Carter. Even though i think he's better than alot of the other guys he hasnt been showing it this year, at least he wasnt before he went to the Nets.
And to the guy that thought Lebron of AI was nuts........WHAT?!?

    lebron's team is winning
    lebron's better statisically
lebron is younger, and shouldnt be as good as he is.....BUT HE IS
    and again
    lebron's team is winning....and he's the leader

    I'll tell you why...

Because everyone is looking down on Kobe with a microscope. Kinda like kids do ants (although I never have). Well, they think, "Okay...no matter what Kobe does, he's nothing if he doesn't win the game."

Now, apply that to McGrady...who doesn't look better than Kobe stat-wise (FG%, that's it) and the Rockets are under .500...and then you should look confused when you look up in the mirror.

The facts are, Kobe's reputation has lost him tons of votes...as well as McGrady moving West and having both Magic and new Rockets fans voting for him.

Ask yourself why McGrady's merchandise sales are up with Shaq's...but not Kobe's. It's because both switched teams.

    Same situation here with T-Mac.

    kobe - 31.19 pts per 48 minutes mcgrady - 27.1 pts per 48
kobe - 7.79 rebounds per 48 minutes mcgrady - 7.08 rebounds per game
    kobe - 7.79 rebounds per 48 minutes mcgrady - 6.5 assists per 48
    kobe - 1.50 steals per 48 minutes mcgrady - 1.72 steals per 48
    kobe - 1.26 blocks per 48 minutes mcgrady - 1.11 blocks per 48
    kobe - 5.13 turnovers per 48 minutes mcgrady - 2.75 turnovers per 48
kobe - 40% from the field mcgrady - 41.4% from the field

Kobe takes the points, rebounds and assists catagory per 48. Not by much in the rebounds, but with a solid lead in the other 2. He's also got the slight edge in blocks per game.

Mcgrady takes it in steals by a small amount, but dominates him in turnovers, averaging about half as many. He also has a 1.5% better FG%, which isnt much, but its note worthy.

I can agree that Kobe's numbers are better. But Mcgrady's not that far behind. Statisically Kobe should get the knod ahead of Mcgrady. But I'd still take Tracy personally. I'm not a fan of Kobe's attitude, i dont think he's helping his team like he could, but besides that I think his turnovers nearly offset the other advantages he has over Tracy. But thats just my opinion, and i encourage everyone to vote for their favorites, cause that's how this system works.

I still dont believe that Orlando fans are turning out in droves to vote for a guy that didnt want to play for them. He'll get booed when he go's back, if he hasnt already cause i'm not really sure. As a raptors fan i'm not about to go vote for Vince. I didnt vote for T-Mac when he bolted from us. I think Mcgrady's location, inside the very populated state of texas, as well has having last years scoring title under his belt has raised his stock with the casual fan, while Kobe's daily feudes, not to mention the rape trial, has hurt his.

Mcgrady is the scoring champion, i'm sure that gave him a boost. Also i've gotta say that the Houston jersey's are pretty kick ass, much nicer than the current Lakers ones, but thats just my opinion. Shaq's sales are up because of the reason you suggest. The casual lakers fan is still supportive of him, because of everything he did for them, and the city. But also Shaq's are up because of the attention he recieved from the media bumped his stock a little. Not to mention that the Heat actually are contenders now, playing amazing ball under his guidance.

Lastly i'd like to add that Kobe's jersey sales are down because he's with the same team. Alot of kobe/Laker fans already have his jersey. I know i wouldnt go buy it if i have last years in my closet. With Shaq and Kobe you've got the fans from all around the country, including the ones that remain in their old home state, going out and picking up a current jersey.
There's nothing worse than walking around in a not quite old-but not quite new jersey.
