According to Hoopshype.com our very own Amare Stoudemire is leading their MVP race. I don't know how accurate they predict MVP's but this is definaly a plus. Following Amare in order are Tim Duncan, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal, and Steve Nash. MVP Race The thing is that I don't think he deserves it over Lebron, Duncan, Garnett, and Kobe. Sure he is dominating everybody that trys to play him but his rebounding numbers IMO should be way higher. He should be using his athledic ability and size to box out and grab boards. His low post defence could improve a little too before he is named MVP. He is having an outstanding year but most valuable player? If you take him away from the Suns I don't think the Suns would be nearly as bad as the Wolves without Garnett or the Cavs without Lebron. We still have Nash, Marion, Q, and JJ, while if you take the Cavs and take away Lebron they have nobody. I am as big as an Amare as you can get and I will ammit that I don't think if the season ended right now he should get MVP.
I think that Amare, right now is ranked where he should be in the MVP race. His team is winning he's playing incredible and he's upped his averages quite a bit. Lebron is also up there with Amare but KG and Duncan are in a tie for third IMO. IF the suns make it to the playoffs and get past the second round then its a sure thing that Amare will get MVP and if they finish first overall in the NBA it's a lock.
I really think Amare deserves it right now also, he is just playing ball off of instinct. Imagine him when he actually learns the game...that is scary. He has potential to be better than both KG and Duncan IMO...and he will be.
You guy sare being too generous. Amare is not the leagues MVP right now, he's not even the Suns Most Valuable Player IMO. Nash has been just a valuable to the team as Amare. He's made Amare a much better player, and has made him become so lethal so quick. Right now I would put Duncan as the MVP. Same old Duncan, the team is only 1 game back behind the Suns, and he has done the same thing this year, in less minutes. He's been the teams most valuable player, and take out another key component from the Spurs like Parker or Ginoboli, and the team will still have one of the top records because Duncan makes everyone better because of his presence and skills. It's getting old, but he's the MVP at this point for me.
I'm gonna agree, and disagree with what has been said. Amare doesn't deserve MVP right now. But I definitely don't think Kobe deserves it either. His team isn't even top 5 in the West, why would he be top 5 in MVP. The others that I think deserve it are not only great players on their own, but they make their teams better. I think it's Duncan, KG, Nash, Lebron, Shaq, in that order.
Let me re-post my opinion...I don't know what I was thinking earlier... Amare should be the MVP if...he can up his boards to 10 a game, his PPG stay consistent and the Suns finish 1st in the west. If none of this happens, he should def be the early lock for MIP.

A lot of people forget what MVP stands for, Most Valuable Player, not best player, but the most valuable to his team which connects with this thread. In that poll (see link above) 44 people voted and 22 said Amare was worth more, and 22 said Nash was worth more clearly stating that they both have equal value to this team. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Downtown:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm gonna agree, and disagree with what has been said. I am not the biggest Kobe fan you will see around these boards but you have to think if the Lakers lost Kobe their team would be done. I forget the number but Kobe has around 27% of his team offence. Amare has a lot of room for improvement, such as his rebounding ability and post defence. He has the potential to be one day better then Duncan and KG (like Kobe 8 Ball said). I just don't think Amare is at that level YET. But one day hopefully he will.
I don't believe Amare should get the MV. (this is comming from a suns fan) He is a great player, but without Nash hooking him up i don't think his numbers would be this good. Now for my biased answer Nash should be MVP.
no he is not amare is garbage compared to the other fowards KG and DUNCAN are too damn good and oneal has a bigger chance of winning it that he does even after the suspension
^ No way dude, that's crazy, he has played just as well as Duncan, and he hasn't been playing the forward position, he is the Suns Center. How could you say that JO is going to have a better chance than Amare? Amare is having a better season even if J.O hadn't had gotten suspended. I'm really glad to see Steve up there he truly deserves it. Whatis amazing for him is his above 50 percent shooting percentage while running the point, but then again you get alot of layups in their fast break offense. But I believe that KG is the early seasons MVP; check out how well he is playing. He is the only true forward in the top 20 for assists(6.3 a clip). Also he is 9th in the league in scoring(23.1 PPG), and the leagues leading rebounder by a margin of 2.6 RPG.(14.5 RPG). He is just barely the leagues best player, and Amare is third behind Lebron IMO.
Amare has a way to go on the defensive end before serious MVP talk should be starting. On offense, he is amazing, but I feel he too often gets lackadaisical on D, not boxing out or hitting the boards hard enough for a man with so much strength and height. He will hopefully learn that in time though
I'd give Nash the nod over Amare, personally. It doesn't always show up in numbers but the record speaks volumes..
Isn't it obvious? Nash is the MVP. He's been the most underrated point in the league for years and now he's proven his worth and he's still not getting the attentions he deserves. Amare is great. He and everyone else on the suns are better with Nash on the floor. Nuff Said.
I would rank Tim Duncan and a name no one else mentioned yet, Ray Allen, ahead of Amare. The Spurs now have the best record in the NBA and they have now beaten the Suns twice. The only team the Spurs have had problems with are the Sonics, and with the way Allen has been leading that team, I give him the nod over Amare as well. I would have liked to have seen Amare step it up even more when Nash went down. He still put up some great stats, but he wasn't as efficient and the Suns are still on a 6 game losing streak. The Spurs and Sonics have not lost more than two games in a row, and even with Gino being injured a few games and Shard missing a few games for the Sonics, both teams kept winning.
I think it's easier for those teams though because if Rashard Lewis is out for a game, the Sonics have Vladimir Radmonovic who is a close of Rashard and can do the exact same things offensively. With the Spurs they have Brent Barry who isn't as good, but is also a super versatile player that can do everything on the floor, so they can fill the position pretty well, with the Suns, they couldn't fill the position with Barbosa, and with him also going down, they had nothing. Now I do agree that Amare isn't MVP though, I'd take Duncan, Lebron, Shaq, Ray Allen, Dirk, Wade, and Nash over him as MVP candidates.
Amare is playing great and all but I think Steve Nash is the League MVP so far. When you look at how the Suns were playing with Nash out, you see how much he helps this team. Nash is averaging a double double with 15 PPG and 10 APG. His APG are a career high and his field goal percentage is at a career high. He is doing great and hopefully he can keep this up. That is why he is my pick for 2005 League MVP.
Certainly Nash would have to be a serious consideration. The Suns played very lethargic basketball without him, then first game back produce one of the games of the season (unfortunately on the wrong end of the scoreboard) Whilst Duncan continues on his usual dependant way, I don't think he has been as dominant as previous years, probably due to the cutback in his minutes seen this season. Garnett is holding a sinking team afloat, and LeBron is carrying the Cavs as far as he can. The season though is still only 50% completed though, and anything can happen
