Matt Bonner is 6th in the rookie ranking by hoopshype. He is by FAR the best second round pick the Raptors ever made... So all of you who are saying Rob Babcock didn't do the right thing this 2004 draft...think again
(by the way Hoffa is showin' lots of potential)

Rob Babcock didn't draft Matt Bonner, neither did Glen Grunwald, but Grunwald traded for him. He was drafted in the 2nd round by the Bulls in 2003, and we traded for him. He played overseas last year, and this year is his first year in the NBA.

dang I was about to post that. Anyway didn't we draft some guy Miralles this year at 2nd round? Just wondering if anyone knows what happened with him.

Hoffa has shown some improvement, however he doesn't have much endurance. You can see on the floor that after being on the floor for 8 or so minutes he gets quite tired.

Babcock traded Miralles for Pape Sow. Whoever posted this does have a point that Babcock made the decision to sign Matt Bonner, because he might as well have waived him and Pape Sow on the 15-man roster deadline. I like what Araujo is bringing to the table. Sure, he can't jump high, he ain't quick like Rafer, he's not exactly a marathon runner but he brings toughness inside, he rebounds on the backboards, he steals (TWICE from KOBE!), and he can set one heck of a screen. He will just have to get back to game shape to play at least 30 mins/game.

bonner is going to be really hard to hang onto in the off-season. a lot of teams are going to be making a run at him. someone is prolly gonna throw a truck load of money at him. i hope we can keep him. the plus side is that he does like it here in toronto

he's proved that he is one of the most consistant shooters in the league. if he's open...he'll knock it down. its real nice having a guy like that on your team.

he also hussles, plays hard and rebounds well...he's like our new JYD except he can shoot

I don't reallyknow too much about him except he has a great jumpshot and I don't remember seeing hit the rim on any shots he made...but, then again I have not seen that many Raptor games this season. Good pick up for you guys. How is he on other elements of the game like defense etc.

He's not the quickest, but he works hard and it helps make up for it. He's also a pretty good rebounder. IMO he's a jr. Donyell.

He can shoot, his rebounding is weak, he's the worst rebounding big man on our team. He's strong, but not much of a defender, his defensive fundamentals are average at best, and he doesn't have the athleticism or length to be a shot blocking presence.

He can't make shots when people play him real close, but not one plays him close, people forget to read scouting reports, it's like those who play Milt for the shot. He's been blocked on jumpers quite a few times for his attempts, he also can't create his own shot. Good player though, and works hard.

It's so true, once people actually start reading and playing Bonner based on his scoutin report, he will be render almost useless. His main two attributes are his hustle, and his jumpshot. Read the Scouting report and play him for the shot, and he's just lost 50% of his game.

Still a great spark off the bench though, I like him.

disagree totally...there is always opportunities for open shots...pick & pop's, double teams...etc. bonner will always drain open jumpers because they always come

his rebounding and defense will only improve...lets remember...he's a rookie, and only 24. i for one dont believe for a second that his game will get figured out, and that will be the end of matt bonner. he'll improve in the areas that he's weak in right now, and...well...how could his jump shot get any better?

I like Bonner...hard working, very modest and mild mannered. Just goes out and does whats asked of him to do.

Id love to see him rewarded and play in the rookie game at the all star weekend this year.

Bonner's game is pretty much set right now, the chances of his game making any radical changes are slim to none. He's played 4 years of College, and one year in Europe, their's not a high chance of anything changing now.

He's not going to become a beast rebounder, but no one was expeceting that, he's learnt the fundamantals, but doesn't have the length or athleticism to grab more boards, he'll be decent. Defensively he doesn't have the lateral quickness or athleticism to be any more than average man to man, and doesn't have the length or athleticism to be a prized help defender [like Lafrentz, crappy one on one, but can block shots], but he's okay on man to man becuase he tries a lot.

Offensively he'll always be there to hit open shots, from his College days to Europe, till now, he's not been able to penetrate and get to the basket except for once in a while, and has had no post up game, so those things aren't going to come.

He'll be a decently prized player in the off-season, he can shoot, rebound okay, and plays hard, so teams would want him as a guy off the bench.
