If anything, this guy is just getting worse. He cant rebound at 7 6, with just around 8 1/2. Mainly because he only plays 31 mpg. He is supposed to be the first option on this team, yet he has just 18.5 ppg or something and that is from taking only half as many shots as i expected at the start of the season. Yao is highly inconsistent and he is very turnover prone. everyone knows how handle him.
He can't rebound because he has absolutley no hops!, he isn't at all agressive he normally gets poor position inside then just settles for a jump shot, now that isn't bad all of the time, but he'd be more effective if he learnt how to muscle his way through the paint. He also settles for layups and not dunks, and I have no idea why. Also isn't Mcgrady first option?
^^^^ yeh during games it does seem as if mcGrady is first option. this year is the mosty aggressive i've ever seen yao play. he is actually dunking on people as a huge force that yao should represent himself as. but i agree dan le he does settle for shots that he shouldnt be taking too often. i just believe someone should get him in weight training class, and try to increase his stamina, agilty, and much more.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Dan Le:</div><div class="quote_post">He also settles for layups and not dunks, and I have no idea why.</div> http://www.sportsline.com/nba/dunk-o-meter He's slipped a bit since his troubles with the flu.. but Yao was top 5 in dunks not long ago. He doesn't "settle" for layups. He doesn't have the explosiveness to dunk all the time, so if he feels more comfortable with the layup there's no reason to force a dunk everytime. Hell the man's got more dunks than KG and Tim Duncan I think it's safe to say he makes the most of his opportunities.
Yao was rebounding and blocking shots pretty well for an extended stretch of games, but on the last road trip he sort struggled in those areas and then he got the flu. I think he'll improve in those categories over the course of the season, though, assuming he stays healthy. Turnovers is the area he really needs to improve, though. He gets the ball stripped from him more than anyone else I can think of. Sometimes, I get the feeling that he's not really reacting to defense but rather going through some default offensive move regardless of the defenders around him and that causes him to expose the ball too often. He needs to learn how to adjust to defenses better and be more creative with his post moves. Maybe Ewing isn't the best mentor for that, though. I always felt that Ewing was too mechanical with his post moves, and that's how Yao's moves are starting to evolve into.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting durvasa:</div><div class="quote_post">Turnovers is the area he really needs to improve, though.</div> Agreed. He gets swarmed in the post, but that is also a function of who he's got around him. If defenders are willing to leave their man to swarm Yao, then the Rockets need to surround Yao with better players. Hopefully recent trades will help, but I agree Yao has to take better care of the ball.
Regarding Yao and dunking the ball, I definitely think he passes up too many opportunities, and misses too often when he goes for them. Recently I've been playing on these really nice height adjustable goals up at some apartments near the University of Houston, and my friend and I brought the goal down to the exact height that would simulate us being Yao's height. Simply put, it's a freaking joke that Yao can't dunk it 4/5 times he has the ball deep. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Yao doing what is comfortable to him and not trying to force dunks if they're not there, but if he's going to take chipshot layups, he needs to MAKE THEM. He misses way to many point blank layups.
Yao's rebounds have improved ever noticed that in the last few games his been getting close or exactly ten rebounds.
eh... one thing I wanna point out is that if you look at the numbers he put up for the amount of aplying time he gets, he's a very efficient player... BUT I still tihnk he can do much better, sof ar IMO he's been a bit of disappointing this season, I expected him to bust out and have a break through year... however I'm convinced that there's a certain height and if yu're over it, you're just awakward... (bradley, manute bol (spl?)).. yao for a 7'6 guy is pretty agile, but no very agile compared to shorter players, and he's pretty slow rotatting, so he gets into foul trouble sometimes.
