<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Derrick Coleman was released by the Detroit Pistons (news) on Thursday after playing in just five games for the NBA champions. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 1.8 points, three rebounds and 10 minutes this season, and he missed 17 games with a leg injury. Detroit acquired Coleman from Philadelphia during the offseason for Corliss Williamson to clear salary-cap space that could be used in the future to re-sign Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince. In another move, Detroit signed guard Anthony Goldwire to a 10-day contract, a day after releasing point guard William "Smush" Parker. </div> Link I find It odd the fact Joe Dumars didn't wait til the trade deadline to at least try and trade Coleman. Considering he has an expiring contract.
i agree that dumars might possibly have tried to trade coleman or at least put him on the block to see what was offered. but i dont understand why the pistons sighned smuch back in the first place. I mean he was on the team at the beggining of the year then they released him, sighned him again and now they are releasing him. I'm confused.
i'm making an assumption here, but i've got to imagine that Dumars tried to shop around DC before waiving him. the pistons still have to pay him next season, don't they? i can't imagine Dumars making such a seemingly hasty move without exercising all of his options.
