Don't know if this is relevant to you guys board, but...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In a feature story in this week's Sports Illustrated, McGrady admitted that he was so defeated mentally by the losing that "some nights I did slack off" and also "I'm not going to sit here and say I played my hardest every night." McGrady said he did not trust his teammates on last season's team and that part of his motivation in leading the NBA in scoring was to protect his image as one of the league's elite players. </div>

What a bunch of garbage that is. I heard this a while back, actually...where he said he stepped out on the court every night for Orlando expecting a loss.

Protect his image...ha. The way you do that is go out and work your hardest, no matter what. Everything comes at a price...McGrady was shopping for free.

McGrady is just a "me me me" person. He will play down anything to make himself look better (as a player that is, so he will make his 30pt average season look like it was just a average performance from him).

Give him time with houston, if they do nothing he will be slagging them off. He has to be on a team that can win him things to be happy, and even then that will be hard cos i dont think he is to easy to get along with.

It's obvious. If you ever watched the Magic games you could tell McGrady was never busting his butt giving 100%. Even though it never seems like he has at all anyways. It's a shame if NBA players don't give 100% every night. If your getting payed millions of dollars to play a game that you love, you'd think that you would give 100% every night and play every game like it's your last.

These guys like Vince and Tracy McGrady could use some advice from AI on how to give all your effort and put your heart into every game as if it was your last. [IMG]

What a loser. This is why I have no respect for McGrady any more. Him and Vince are obviously cousins. [IMG] Not trying your hardest and slacking off must run in the family...

The way I look at it, he just ended up making himself look like a liar. I remember earlier this summer he was saying that he gave his all in Orlando and that Weisbrod and the press ran him out of town. Weisbrod claimed that he could find no reason for keeping a player, no matter how talented, that wasn't going to give you 100% every night.

So...now that everything has died down, he feels the need to admit this. Wow.

Can you blame him? If you guys were in his situation losing after losing after losing, with no chance in making the playoffs, would you guys slack off some nights? I'm sure many of you would. Us spectators are so quick to judge someone but, we never actually think about being in someone else's situation. To quote Atticus Finch, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

Now some one please tell me how his playing style have anything to do with his lack of effort in playing? Whether he has trouble against the zone (many players do), or not seems irrelevant to me. McGrady did play somewhat selfish in Orlando but a loss was almost expected as he said. To tell you the truth, I felt as if there was not really anyone worth passing the ball to. Other than McGrady, who would you give the rock to? No one else.

Yes McGrady should have played hard every game, but don't you you guys feel as though you are going too hard on him? If McGrady had not been present, where would Orlando be? Could we really have depended on Grant Hill to have the same presence as McGrady. If Tracy McGrady had never been in Orlando, the Magic would have been in the lottery and Orlando would not have been as magic. All of those years when he brought excitement to the TD Waterhouse Center, all those times ya'll were rooting for him in the all-star game, you're forgetting because of one season? McGrady was not the main problem in thatn season either. No one can deny that. I think if we don't remember all of these times McGrady has really helped Orlando, we are just as bad as him for not playing 100% every single game on a losing team.

Without T-Mac and without Hill, just with a bunch of people we had a 41-41 record in 99-00 if I remember correctly.

Also T-Mac gave up very early in the season, at a time where we still could have made the playoffs but for me he wasn't the only one to blame, yes he was part of the problem but not the sole reason for our downfall last year. He had some huge games, some very selfish games but that's all he could do, there was no plan B, everything was focused around T-Mac, the whole system and once he didn't produce we lost, and once he produced hardly any other player produced and we lost. That's very frustrating and I understand his feelings, however I blame him for not being the leader he should've been, I blame him for going to the press and talk about the problems rather than speak to his teammates about it, those things made it worse and team chemistry was destroyed and he lost my respect for doing those kind of things.

The Magic had a great set of just role players. No they did not have a star or anything, but every just did their part. I was also refering to excitement, and entertainment wise as well.

I know McGrady was not always the leader he should have been. But, McGrady is not used to losing like that. Believe it or not losing like that really takes some getting used to. Losing 10 games in a row, and absolutely nothing done about it will cause some serious frusturation. They fired Doc, but no player changes or anything else was really done. They traded Giricek which I thought was a bad move, but it seemed to everyone like the Magic had no interest in improving.

McGrady was the heart and soul of the Magic organization for a short 4 years, and during that span I think he has been more beneficial to the organiztion, than detrimental. You guys can't hate him and lose all respect for the guy after all those great seasons. [IMG]

^His exciting play has nothing to do with the fact, that he destroyed team chemistry last year, as a player he has my greates respect for his talent but I've got no respect for him as a person. He didn't act like a mature person, yes he wasn't used to losing but that's no excuse for him going out to the media and talking trash to them, instead of being a leader and talking with his teammates and the organization. He wasn't ready for being the leader and for this I blame the organization, Darrell was the leader and they let him go, he deserved better and we needed him as our true leader.

At the end of the day, I don't have respect for T-Mac as a person, maybe he grows up in Houston but his interview their doesn't show any kind of it, I blame the whole organization for our downfall last year but T-Mac was part of the problem and I'm happy now that many things changed since then, I don't agree with all changes but I can live with them and hope for a good future.

Destroying team chemistry is not good, but he probably felt that there wasn't much of a team to destroy. As a player we should respect him, but as a person doesn't really matter. We don't know any of these guys, or their actions as a person, do not affect us. But, I do think it showed character on his part to admit his faults. I feel that this article was in part, gassed by the media too. But, McGrady is no longer a part of the Magic so it doesn't affect anyone here whether or not he played hard or not. I guess you guys should be thanking him and the rest of the Magic for giving you Dwight Howard. LOL [IMG] But seriously, as you said, McGrady was not ready for the role, and I also feel that Tracy was not the only Magic not playing his heart out every game.

^You're right. But we Magic Fans remebered a time where every player gave his best, every single game and playing with a lot of heart, that was the season of the heart and hustle, that was the season with a 41-41 record despite having just a bunch of role players, role players who knew for whom they were playing and why. After we aquired T-Mac and Hill, I think we started to get frustrated since Hill had this injury and hardly played for us but the team played great and fought every single game, they kept it going until game 5 of the first round of the playoffs 2003-2004. 3-1 for us, against Detroit, no one ever dreamed of winning against Detroit at this point, but we were close, very close but not yet ready, still this season showed great promise, even without Hill. With the aquisitions during the following offseason and all that stuff around, the Magic Organisation promised us that this team is heading again towards the playoffs and this time, the first round is not the end of it. So everyone had high expectations, I remember many people saying this team can get as high as No. 3 and No. 5 or 6 as the worst case scenario in the East. Well, you know what happened. We, as fans got frustrated and it's not easy to forget this. With better moves, better decisions and more heart and hustle this wouldn't have happened but it did.

I'm not looking back, I'm not blaming T-Mac for all that, in fact he was only a minor reason but I'm also not giving him credit for getting the scoring title last year. Some people even said he should've gotten some credit in the MVP voting since he was the best player on our team and without him, we wouldn't have won any single game. I think differnently.

It was great to have him around for three years, but his final year with us is nothing good to remember.

But now is the time to look in the future.

is this a joke cant u blame him for not trying yea i can if u wanna win u have to earn it he just dont want to like look at houston they r .500 they wont make playoffs give that 2 seasons and say good bye to t-mac

he doesnt want to earn it yet he thinks it will drop into his hands like what the hell that isnt going to happen now or ever

then u look at hard players like hill and francis and magic r winning we r winning on the fact that they play hard and it pays off 100% they give not 99 not 98 not 50 <u>100%</u> thats why magic love them and not t-mac it really should be me-mac coz he only thinks of himself and its sad for houston and magic of last season like last season in houston they made playoffs yao showed improvement and it all looked good now yao has not improved and me-mac is declining

I still don't understand why everyone here hates T-Mac sure he didn't try his hardest last year, but the years before that, the year he brought you to the playoffs, do you guys remember that or has it all been erased because of the hate that you all had built up from last year?

I think you should refrase your post a bit, because not everyone here hates T-Mac.

He's just not the player we first saw in him, some people/fans hate him for that, some people/fans don't respect him for that as a person and/or as a player, some people/fans don't like him and won't cheer for him anymore, some people/fans don't even bother. But definitely not everyone hates him here.

Come on, there was times that the team only won because of his all around performance. AI does give it almost all he's got, but I really think he can lead the league in steals every year if he really busted his tail. And remember AI did miss practice like he didnt care, and like it wasn't his job to go to practice as a team and show up on time.

I really don't think Doug Christie is all that good, but he definately gives it his all.
