And it worked beautifully in their win against Houston. Keep in mind, the Chicago Bulls ran the triangle focused around the man himself, Michael Jordan, and it made everyone on the court a scoring threat...even Luc Longley, who is like our very own Chris Mihm.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Lakers used the scheme for the first time this season Friday during their 111-104 victory over the Houston Rockets and worked on it extensively Sunday before boarding a plane for Minneapolis.

Tomjanovich said the Lakers would use a lot of the formation tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center. And that's fine with Bryant, who said he liked the offense that Winter originated because it "makes everybody a threat."

"It gives great movement; it's very flexible," said Bryant, who scored 27 points and had 10 assists Friday as the Lakers won their first game of the season in which their opponent scored more than 100 points. "There's a flow to it so the defense can't sit and anticipate what you're going to do. It's all reads, and we have a good time running it."</div>

This could very well be the turning point of the Lakers. It's very true that we need to work extensively on our defense, but this can really slow down teams and tire their players...defending the triangle...which could really help us late in the games. With the triangle, it brings spacing, team ball, and above all...getting guys wide open. I mentioned the triangle at the beginning of the off-season, and alot of people said no chance. Well, this is our door swinging wide open for us...it's time to break out and take our chances.

Thing is, there's a long list of people who don't know the triangle, including Rudy, Mihm, Odom, Butler, Atkins, Tierre, Grant, Jones, and Sasha. However, Kobe knows it...and he's going to teach it. Walton, Cook, and Devean can help out as well.

This could work, Laker fans. This is something big, and could very well make up for the terrible shots we take (Rudy Threes) and cut some slack when we are playing bad, bad defense. I'll have to see the triangle a little more in LA right now, to be happy about it...but I have faith...and I think it'll take us to where we need to go: a definite ticket to the playoffs...and when we get there, we should be a little more...polished, maybe...to drop a few teams and see how far we can really get. Hopefully, we'll end up playing a few teams that have yet to experience the playoffs (hint, hint) and/or those that choke in them (sorry Kings, just a joke). [IMG]

Push for this to happen...because it's a step everyone was afraid to take, but it worked once already. Let's keep our hopes up and see if we can break 50 wins with our new offense.

51 games left...to a 50-win season, we have to go 33-18 in those 51...and I think it's possible. Kobe's best part of the season is the second half, and our team can only get better. There may even be a trade soon...who knows...but it can be done.

    Go Lakers. [IMG]

I absolutely love this idea. I'm a huge fan of the triangle offense because of the spacing, cutting, reading & reacting...and its way of making mediocre talents into legit offensive threats.

No longer do we have to rely strictly on the overused iso-drive-and-kick plays...and no more chucking up an unbelievable amount of bad threes (which lead to fast breaks for the opposing team). The triangle, although it will only be the basic sets, will add much needed stability to the Lakers.

What I like the best is Odom can play more point forward (ala vintage Scottie Pippen). The Lakers success relies heavily on Odom playing to his potential.

This also helps take the load off Kobe...because his mileage will need to be saved for a strong playoff push at the end of the season...and maybe more.

This is crazy... a change of system 30 games into the season. There's a lot of risk, the triangle is a very complicated offense, learners have been known to be frustrated in the past (Bulls teams, Lakers teams) and I thought it takes at least one full season to truly grasp what it is about. All I know is Kobe better have patience, it's not going to click straight away.

No, they are not completely changing up the offense -- they're adding a new set to their offense. So now the sets they have are the Slice, Horns and Triangle.

LG.net has a great look into the Slice and the Horns plays.

Well, my next post on here was to describe the slice and horns, but I guess that's been done...extensively...already. [IMG]

I thought Kobe didn't like the triangle though? It's good though, it should help the team, and maybe get Odom involved more, and George etc know how to play in it.

This is good for the Lakers and the fans because the offense wont look so boring

The Triangle had won championships for both Michael and Kobe, and there's no reason why it can't now. I think the Lakers ought to run it more because they are configured like the Bulls dynasty, and the offense ought to be a perfect fit. We have
Kobe Bryant = Jordan who dominates all the time,
Lamar Odom = Pippen who also dominates,
Chris Mihm = Cartwright/Longley who defends and rebounds (but i think Mihm's more athletic and offensively-gifted),
Chucky Atkins = Hodges/Armstrong/Kerr who sticks the 3's, and
Brian Grant = Horace Grant/Rodman who rebounds.
Caron Butler = Toni Kukoc, scorer, slasher, 3 pointer, facilitator.
I say make the Triangle a staple of the Laker offense now that Shaq is gone and opponents don't sag and clog the lane that much. That would make the Laker offense more unpredictable than the penetrate-and-pitch they often do now.

I wouldn't like it either, when you have to wait 20 seconds for your center to find his way into the paint.

Actually, in the article, Kobe admits that he did like the triangle. He does say that it was boring during parts of the season, but come playoff time, he loved it, and that's probably because it's the hardest offense to execute, but the hardest to defend as well.

very nice move by the lakers utilizing the triangle offense. hopefully this time the triangle would actually work.

hopefully the lakers learn the triangle quickly.

but does Rudy T. know how to run the triangle? i wonder if Tex is with them helping them out.

Maybe the Raptors could run the triagle with Morris Peterson [IMG]

He might not seem that good to the naked eye, but if you look closely, he has a microscopic inscription of Oscar Robertson on his right arm, and Michael Jordan on his left, yup definately does.

Guys..Before u all go and think this is true. (about kobe said he love is bla bla"
    I will have 2 Quote Phil's book : " U know how much i hate this offense".
Exactly what he said 2 phil.

Ofcourse i'm a huge HUGE kobe fan. BUT don't forget back in the days Tex winter did say he might have known the offense better than anyone on the team (and Fish because Fish was by far the smartest in bball terms).

He still was reluctant to use it from time to time. IF they would constantly use this attack and everybody would be willing to use it and quit the fcking 3's as if they're all Larry Birds. We might have a much better record, and could end up going deeper than expected in to the playoffs. but STOP the roster changes please..it confuses everyone..Rudy subs way 2 different.
