I don't think its terrible if he's really that good. If you can lock up that position for the next 10 years, why not do so?

Doug Brien going for the field goal but hits the post and misses. He has another chance and hits it way left. Remember when brien cost the jets the playoffs??

Taking a kicker in the first round of the draft is just plain GENIUS! [IMG]

I know it wasn't the first round, but you work with what you've got and what you need. Besides, at #47 overall, he is only the seventh highest drafted kicker since before most of you were born (1967).

Being Born after Woodstock (just 2 weeks though), I appreciate the history lesson. [IMG] but didn't the draft used to be 12 rounds. In fact, I remember when I was in Jr High, it was still 9 rounds

Special teams are important but PK's.... Well,

Kickers are the most disposable commodity on the roster IMO. Europe & Latin America are crawling with 'em.

Its the one Jimmy Johnson philosophy I agree with wholeheartedly.

Kickers can decide the game. I think theyre the second most underated players in the NFL.( O-Linemen) I dont think the jets want brien to have all of the pressure on him at the end of a game.

i agree with this move doug brien blew royally for the Jets last year and he screwed up a potential super bowl season. Yes they might have beaten the Pats. anyway they didnt think he'd be there later so they took him and then took Miller who was a potential first rounder till he got arrested for something. Both good players they locked up kicker for a while and good riddence doug brien!!!!!!
stupid kicker missed short kicks Jets should have won AHHHH (i'll never forget him lol)

Mike Nugent is one of the best kickers ever to grace the colleg gridiron(of course im a die hard BuckEyes fan [IMG] ) and if he would have been in New York last year they would have been playing against Philadelphia in the Superbowl, there is no doubt in my mind, they had all of the tools in place with the exception of a kicker who is about...Just below average.

Personally, I would rather sign a FA Kicker than get a rookie since I was watching the Wildcard game with Nate Kaeding missing the game winning FG against the Jets.

Of course, a 'FA-type kicker' Doug Brien did the same for the Jets. Fortunately for the Chargers, Kaedings mistake cost less on the pocketbook.
