I still think this is a bad trade. With Johnny Davis as coach, we could have the Spurs or Pistons lineup and we would still give up 100 ppg. He just doesn't know how to coach defense. This is going to hurt, I really don't see Christie fitting in well with us at all. Like Coranar said. If anything, we should play Augmon more. Mobley's D isn't as bad as you guys think he is and Christie's D is decreasing and is just a little better than Mobley. Christie doesn't provide much offense, like Mobley did. So now basically we're gonna give up 100 ppg and only score 96 or something like that. Like I said before, we need a new coach that will preach defense. I hope Dwight gets more touches now, but I seriously doubt it. I have a feeling we're about to get into a bad slump and fall out of the playoffs. Also, if the trade is about chemistry, why the hell do we do it? Mobley has great chemistry with Cato and Steve-o. Christie doesn't. btw, I think I heard that Christie has 1 more year left on his deal. In the interview with Cat at 4th quarter they asked how likely it would have been for him to resign with us. He said we have the upper hand since we have Cato and Stevo. Maybe he will comeback and sign with us over the offseason. Even though I doubt it with the way that we treated him. Our organization is killing our team by downgrades. Bogans for Hunter, Bogans would have been good trade bait and we coulda got more. Same with this trade. Just dropping Zaza hurts. Now this gives an extra roster spot that we can move Declerq in when he gets back. If Johnny Davis plays Declerq more than 10 mins a game, I'm just gonna stop watching the Magic until Davis isn't coach anymore.
It usually takes time for a team to get the 'feel'. Once they do and their minds are in the right place, they tend to flow smoothly. I think that the Magic were just starting to get there... until now. I agree more or less with the assessment most of you have about this trade (huh?), and now I worry about Chemistry. I hope that Christy can make some real headway here, because otherwise the coaching staff and GM are going to hear about it for quite some time.
Wiesbrod has a massive history of terrible trades and decisions. Lets have a look from day one off the top of my head: Webber - Trade for penny. Good at the time, now thinking about it, it looks bad. Shaq - Let him go to easy, another player that we should have strove to gotten. Penny - Blamed for bad season? When we traded him he was still great for us Wallace - What a mistake this was, on of the best PF/C's in the East right now and we traded him for peanuts. There have been other trades that make no sense, and this could be one. I am going to hold opinion for a few games and see how this fits. By the sounds of it we will get Francis's and Cato's trade requests in about 3 weeks and we will trade for 13yr vets that give us combined 6pts and 3 rebounds a game.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Coranor:</div><div class="quote_post">we need a lot of scoring threats (King James X3 how can you say that Nelson is a scoring threat?) to keep the opponents busy with their defense so they don't have enough energy for their offense.</div> Yeah, he's a scoring threat when he plays, give the rookie some minutes and he can contribute, it's that simple. His scoring ability shouldn't be in question, he's a unique player and capable of scoring in many different facets, watching his college performances are reassurance. Take last night of instance, received 27 minutes of actions, produced 19 Points to go along with 6 Assists. Not only that, but the kid was accurate on his 7-12 shooting from the field. He has the potential to be a scoring threat, he just needs the opportunities that other rookies are getting, like any other player he can't shine without floor time. He just can't average 15 Points a Night when he only boasts a 12 MINUTE PER GAME season average, that's why his scoring isn't too impressive at 5 PPG.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting magicdamo23:</div><div class="quote_post"> Wallace - What a mistake this was, on of the best PF/C's in the East right now and we traded him for peanuts.</div> He wasn't traded for "peanuts", he was traded for GRANT HILL. Sure, Hill was hurt all that time, but he was on of the PREMIER players in the L then. ANYONE would've made that trade. And even after the ankle, he's not "peanuts". BTW, this trade really does stink for Orlando. I remember reading an article in the NY Daily News about how everyone on the team went out to dinner before the season started. Grant Hill was interviewed and he talked about how everyone genuinly liked eachother and that the chemistry was coming easy because of that. It's going to be a VERY chilly locker room for Mr. Christie. Peace.
Hill was techicnally traded in the free agency though surely, since his contract had expired. thought wallace was simply compensation and to free money since t-mac came that season aswell and the roster/money burden was huge. I may be wrong but that was my understanding since it was stated that Hill no longer had a contract with Hill (essentially he would have been negotiating). I was under the illusion that free agents dont get traded, they get signed.
^magicdamo23, it was a sign and trade deal, so basically you're right, I even think there was talk about another player than Wallace in this trade but the coach at that time prefered to keep the other and to give up Wallace. But I highly doubt that Wallace would have become that great in our system/with our coach. It's always been like this, our coaches never really could utilize the players they've had to the best extent. But not all of the bad trades you mentioned are Weisbrod's fault, he just became last year GM. @sportsrock, sorry I brought it in that DC has also only this season left which is wrong. He has another season with us, so there's no chance for us getting Cuttino back. @King James X3, Nelson should be our pass-first-PG not another scoring PG like Steve. Also Nelson is very undersized, against a bigger guy he has big problems and his shot is quite inconsistent (sometimes he is great, e.g. 5-5 in 10 minutes against the Knicks, but then he has some off nights, 1-7 in 11 against the Bucks two days later).

I thought he's only been GM for a few years.
Like some have said, this trade has its positives and negatives. First off Christie can help the Magic by playing very good defense he is also very unselfish and he can hit open three's if needed to. There are some negatives as well, Christie is not exactly a young gun anymore, and he seems to start declining due to his old age. I'm not saying that he still can't play but in the near future he won't benefit the Magic much. I?m also wondering why the Magic really wanted to do this trade. We know they wanted to upgrade defensively, but I think it would have been wiser to keep Mobley and if they weren?t going to give him money he wants in the off season, they can get salary cap space instead.
No, Weisbrod became out GM this past offseason. John Gabriel did all the other moves. Actually I think it was in the last month of the season last year. He keeps downgrading talent from us, it has worked out pretty good with how we are back in the playoff race, but the Bogans, Mobley and Gooden trades have sucked overall for us in terms of talent but overall our team is much better and have much more talent than the team that Weisbrod took over last year.
I dont think I will ever be totally convinced by the trade, but as a few have stated its done. I think it is a downgrade in offensive skill obviously, but I am just going to see how well it takes to the team. I am gonna give it about 10 games to see how it takes shape, and not take into account the trip to wolves, which will be a tough game w/ or w/out mobley. I cant say that I'm not disappointed, i think alot of us became very fond of cat very quickly (considering how few games he played really), but christie might do well, and the stats say that hes a decent all rounder. I didnt as such mean wiesbrod i forgot how recent he is, I meant magic as a franchise, we always seem to come out worse in the trades (exception being the big 3, which is now the big 2 )
^magicdamo23 it's weisbrod not wiesbrod but you're basically right and that's the fault of the whole organisation, starting with a not so perfect owner I guess.
Sorry typo, think I spelt it right most times, thats just me being lazy, I do know his name Just noticed that sacramento feel exactly the same about the trade as us (rather the players, not sure about the fans atm). I was half expecting to see the players saying "Super glad to pick up a great offensive threat" or something like that, but they all feel like the are gonna miss a massive part of their team. So quite intersting reactions all round really. Ne one feel that we could do a little trade back, sac keep Bradley
You seem to be quite lazy with this name (since I'm from Germany and this name suggests a German origin I recognize this ) Anyway, I think the problem is that it was so unexpected und happened so fast. The more I think about it, the more I like the trade, I only hope that Davis doesn't mix this up and he can use DC the best possible way.
Actually to be techincal it's because the English Language dictates that "I comes before E except after C" so it would be wIEs, unless say it was wcEIs. Since I currently do a History Degree, which requires a rediculous ammount of writing (ergo grammer). Its lazyness in so far as that I just didnt think about it at the time. There we go, really felt that was pointless to have to explain that I wrote I and E the wrong way round, and would have thought that most people are mature enough to let it slip
^I know this rule, since I'm living in the UK right now and was at a college to improve my English, well don't know whether it really helped me but I had a lot of fun and I needed a new start... But this is getting off topic, so I stop now...
On a side note, Hedo has been telling the team that DC, although we will miss CM, is a "good" aquisition of a player since he played with him @ sac previously. As I say, after Pistons we will see what hes like in the team. I give him about 10 games since it might take a few days to get in with the team and what not, Hedo will be a good starter in the mean time.
The Sentinel stated that Hill was asked by Whysbroad about which players he likes, and he stated Jason Kidd and DC. Hill said that he was underrated. Supposedly that had something to do with this acquisition. Whitebread is listening to the respected Hill on this matter. Wisebrood didn't do this purely on his own. -jk on the Weisbrod
