<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Orlando Magic have acquired guard Doug Christie from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Michael Bradley, General Manager John Weisbrod announced today. "We felt that Doug (Christie) was a perfect fit for the chemistry of our team right now," said Weisbrod. "He's a tremendous passer and defender, he's accustomed to playing in an up-tempo offense and he brings valuable playoff experience. Cuttino (Mobley) is a very difficult piece to give up - one of my favorite people - but we needed to use our depth at shooting guard to fill the areas in which we're deficient." </div> Read Full I had not heard anything of this trade before I just read it on RealGM. I think this is a great trade for Orlando. It will give them a defensive mentality that they need, and also get some more excitement. Sacramento should be happy with the trade also, you get a great scorer, and Christie's wife leaves town! Thoughts on the trade?
As a kings fan. I've got some what mixed emotions don't get me wrong Mobley is a good player but he can't play d and on the kings team thats what we neaded a defender. Although cristie was getting old. And it did get an extra player which increases our depth which is what we need atm.
You guys are in a semi-rebuilding mode, Mobley's contract comes off the books [I think Christie's does too though]. Christie is the better defender and passer, but it's weird to see Francis without Mobley, you know what, I'll say it's a good deal for them [the Magic]. Mobley likes to shoot, though you could say he's the better player, but with him gone, it will open more offensive oppurtunities for Dwight Howard, and Turkoglu. Francis and Mobley not being together is unheard of lol
For the Kings, I have mixed emotions on the trade. We get another great scorer, but we lose the passing and defense that we got from Christie. Not to mention the guy has shown a lot of heart and guts for the Kings. I'll miss him here in Sac-town. For the Magic, I wouldn't say they got the better end of the deal talent-wise, but they come out as a better team. They got a proven defensive stopper with incredible passing ability and not to mention all the intangibles. He's not the as an explosive scorer as Mobley, but he can hit the open jumper. And the way that he distributes the ball, he's setting up other people for easy shots at the basket, so he doesn't need to score himself. Essentially, you have a point guard in a shooting guard's body in Christie and a shooting guard in a Point guard's body in Stevie Francise. I'm sure the two will mesh quite nicely.
......OK Deal for both teams Christie gives Orlando the defence they need and I guess Mobley gives Sac-Town offense they dont really need but Mobley is more talented then Christie. and it looking Sac-town is trying to look like the Sonic of Suns of some thing. but Mobley is not a bad Defender....... and yes Trenchteam it hurts your fantasy roster
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Pure:</div><div class="quote_post"> Sacramento should be happy with the trade also, you get a great scorer, and Christie's wife leaves town! Thoughts on the trade?</div>thats really funny pure, i've heard alot about her and all of her drama. This is a unexpected trade somewhat. i knew orlando was not sure if cutino was going to sighn back in the off-season but this was unexpected at the moment. I believe christie can bring the d that the magic need asap. but for how long is my only question. I believe this trade could be a plus and neg for the magic guess we'll just have to see how this pans out. For the kings this gives them a more youthful player that can knock down the shot conisitently for them. a duo of cutino and bibby can be very explosive especially considering jackson is out for the whole season.
wow i cant believe magic did this deal... maybe because they needed better defense, but christie is getting old and mobley still young and can be a all-star soon... now kings got 3 pure shooters
How can Mobley be an All-Star soon? His best days are also behind him, he's leveled off as a player, and isn't getting any better, his biggest chance at being an All-Star was when he was averaging 21 PPG in Houston, but with the guards in this league that'll alone wil lget you nothing. Mobley is turning 30 this year, he's no young'n, though much younger than Christie, their's no All-Star potential in him. I don't think Orlando would've signed Mobley back anyways, so it's a good move on their part, Christie isn't a stopper, but a good defender, and a team player, so he should help.
hmmm both players are about the same level if u ask me. i have no quarrels about the trade, although seeing mobley without francis and christie in magic's blue/white is a bit unusual.
If the Magic really needed the D, then that is a good trade. I think Sac got the better of it though, they got another shooter to add to their aresenal.
The statistics this season between the two show no comparisons. In my opinon The Kings are loading up for one last attempt at a championship and Mobley may have just increased their chances of carrying out those plans.
Cuttino Mobley is a nice addition for the Kings, he's a good shooter and scorer. However, defense has been something the Kings could improve on in the past and still is. Giving up Christie will not help this at all, as he's a defensive stopper and is considerably better than Mobley defensively. IMO, the Kings didn't need another scorer, and would've benefited more from another defensive orientated player. Michael Bradley will give the Kings some more depth, but not much more. As for the Magic, they need to get the scoring from other places to make up for the loss of Mobley. Christie should make the opponents score lower, but wont score as much as Mobley for the Magic. Which is why it's important that others step up offensively for the Magic. If they do, they should've improved from this trade.
Seeing as how I hate doug christie, I guess I don't care where he plays as long as it's not on the suns!
Mobley isn't that bad of a defender than some people in here think. His focus was most of the time on offense but he can play D when needed, just not with a team coached by Davis. Don't worry King fans, he'll do fine on your team and I wish him the best. However, for Orlando it really sucks, if you're interested why, go to the Orlando forum and read more: Mobley to the Kings
Kings got what they wanted and that's getting a scorer in Mobley. They needed that with Bobby Jackson out for the year. With that said, they are going to miss Doug Christie. That guy is awesome. He plays defense and he can flat-out lead. He gives his all every game. I would love to have a guy like Christie on the Timberwolves. You know you will get the maximum out of him. Kings are going to miss Christie's defensive presence. Kings gave up a lot of value to get their man in Mobley. As for Orlando, they get another veteran presence in Christie. Christie is a guy that can lead when it comes to the playoffs. Magic will definitely need that.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting magicfrankie:</div><div class="quote_post">I like this trade for the Kings.. I only wonder.. will they start Mobley or will he be a sixth man?</div> he would start. Bobby Jackson is out with injuries, and kevin martin / maurice evans still need more experience.
yes.. but that basically leaves them with the same problem... no bench production.. why not start Evans, that will give him experience.. he's averaging over 10 ppg and 4 rbg in the last 4 games, so he should be up to it.. Mobley could then provide them with the much needed spark of the bench..
