At this time, I believe that Jim Jackson of the Hornets is one of the most mis-understood players.....meaning I can't understand why no team sticks with him. I've read opinions that he can defend 3 positions, is an effective scorer, is a veteran, and is cheap. Like one of the biggest mistakes the Kings made was letting him go. Then Houston did the same. If I were him, I'd wonder what I'm doing so wrong that no one wants to keep me. I think Jim can possibly be an asset.
Houston didn't let him go; they traded him to supposedly upgrade their team. Jackson is a valuable asset for any team, and was at top shape with Houston. He has turned into a deadly three-point shooter and is a good rebounder at the small forward position. The Timberwolves would do good to acquire him and have him come off the bench as sixth man or even starting. Question is: will he want to go to Minnesota?

I really don't think any journeyman type of guy would have a problem with playing for Minnesota. No, we aren't winning right now, but I strongly think we can rebound from our problems. Jackson would be a great sixth or seventh man for this team. Here is the trade I would want the most, and I am not worrying about contracts or anything. New Orleans Trade: Jim Jackson Baron Davis Minnesota Trades: Sam Cassell Latrell Sprewell I know it won't happen like that, but I did hear on ESPN Radio that a trade for Davis is very close. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Jim Jackson would be a good fit for this team. But the problem is that would create an even larger logjam at the swingman position. So either Sprewell or Wally would definately have to be moved inorder to make room in the rotation for Jackson. And acquiring him in that situation would become a big deal cause any move to acquire Jackson for Sczcerbiak or Sprewell would have to be a multiple player deal cause of the differences in the contracts is pretty wide. That means the Wolves may have to take a bad Hornets contract inorder to get Jackson maybe Masburn, for Spree or Sczcerbiak & some filler.
I think trade would be davis, jackson, mashburn for sam and spree.....but keep in mind if mashburn dosnt play again and retires...he contract would come of the books just like sprees. There is no way that wally is going to get traded right now cause he has been playing really well..and according to an artilce in star tribune they wont trade wally. i would like it if we could get malgorie somehow in the deal...for kandi cause we need an upgrade at center...but again i dont know how we could get that one pulled off. but pretending we did starting lineup could be PG Baron davis SG Jim jackson or wally SF wally or treton or jim jackson PF KG C Malgorie that would definitaly improve our team...heck if we could get malgorie i would say we could also trade troy hudson to them...cause Anothy carter as been a very solid back up. what do u guys think?
Getting Jamal Magloire would be awesome, I just don't know who we would have to trade to acquire him along with Davis and Jackson. I am all in favor of getting rid of Olowakandi, because he just plain out doesn't contribute enough to be a starter. Trading Szczerbiak right now would really be tough on this team, because he has been playing so well. I think we could recover from it, but aside from Garnett and at times Cassell, he has been the only scorer. I know Davis would bring a lot of scoring, but you can't count on consistency. Timberwolves Trade- Wally Szczerbiak, Latrell Sprewell, Michael Olowakandi Hornets Trade- Baron Davis, Jim Jackson, Jamal Magloire That looks better to me, even though we are losing Szczerbiak. It would give Hassell some more playing time and give Jackson a chance for a lot of minutes. PG- Baron Davis/Troy Hudson SG- Sam Cassell/Fred Hoiberg SF- Jim Jackson/Trenton Hassell PF- Kevin Garnett/Eddie Griffin C- Jamal Magloire/Ervin Johnson I don't know guys, that looks very, very good. But, how would Cassell feeling shooting guard? I always though he could take it and run with it. He loves to shoot, and he won't have to run as much with hampering injuries. I don't know in reality that New Orleans would ever do this deal, but it's an idea. I will keep messing around with trades, but I hope McHale can make something real happen.
I see there's some interest in Jackson, so that means that I wasn't too far off. I also see that we're throwing alot of trade speculations out regarding the Hornets (I don't know how much they would want Szczerbiak since they seem to want to be clearing cap space), but there was a similar situation discussed and a number of posters thought that it would be disrespectful to trade Spree and Cassell to the Hornets given there current position and chance to make the post season. I especially don't want to lose Cassell since his ability to post up other point guards is very useful and can hit the open shot repeatedly. It was also discussed that Baron would require as many, if not more, shots as Cassell. Has Magloire made similar noise to what he made last season? I still wish the Rockets had come to us first so we could have gotten Dike and Jackson.
Great points, Sabretooth. I would not mind having him on my team. He will give you instant offense and he is one guy who is willing to come off the bench. As for Jimmy's situation in New Orleans, I understand his frustration. With that said, it's a business. His duty is try to be professional and do the best he can. He should be lucky to have a job compared to other people. Besides he will be dealt soon enough so why can't he make the most out of his situation. I do give him credit for holding out and not being paid. It's a lot better that way than go through the motions and not play hard like Vince Carter apparently did in Toronto.
I was skeptical of the trade of Jackson for Wesley, but it looks like it's working well for us. Jackson is tough-minded player who plays hard every night and is still an above-average scorer. Of course he's a very good catch-and-shoot 3 point shooter, but he's also a decent post-up player when he's got a smaller player on him. He's lost much of his athleticism from his younger days, but he's very strong and he'll fight through picks so he can guard bigger players. On the negative side, Jackson isn't a good ball-handler and he's turnover prone when he tries to make passes off the dribble. That's somewhat strange since he played some PG back when he was in Dallas, but maybe that's why those Dallas teams were so terrible. He won't be able to guard quick guards out on the perimeter very well, and as a SF he's a below average rebounder. I do think Jackson could be a valuable addition to the Timberwolves. He wouldn't radically change the team, but he's a nice player to have coming off the bench. But the Wolves seem to be overloaded at the wing position with Hassel, Sczcerbiak (sp?), and Sprewell.
