Keys to the Game

Well we all know the Hornets story. They are the worst team in the NBA this season, and it's partially because they have been injury riddled all year. The Sixers are coming off a hard loss from the Pistons, but with the Knicks playing the Bulls today, if they lose and the Sixers take care of this easy game then we could be tied for the top spot in the division.

For this game, it is key for us to not let are guard down. Meaning don't under estimate this team, yeah they are the worst in the league but in the NBA you have to come to play every night no matter what your record says. The Hornets have proved to be no pushovers they have beat the Blazers and the Knicks, to teams that we have lost to. But I believe if we go in with the hunger and fight like we did against the Pistons then we should have no problem winning this game.

A key for us is for Allen to realize that the Sixers can beat the Hornets by out playing them. AI needs to be doing his usual thing by penetrating and dishing to other player, because if the supporting cast does their job then we can bust this game wide open into a blow out, especially if Baron Davis is not in the equation.

Another key is for us to attack the basket and not settle for jumpers like we sometimes get in the habit of doing. The Hornets are not much bigger then we are so I expect the Sixers to be looking to pound the ball inside for easy scores. For a change I want to see guys like Kenny Thomas and Kyle, not shoot outside and attack. This will give us the tempo we need to beet the Hornets and run them out of the gym.

The next key is to handle the break. With us it's simple whenever we get easy baskets the outside game will come to us. I want to see us out run the Hornets and get fast break points, when this happens they'll be looking to defend the break that will lead to open shots on the perimeter to the likes of Korver, Allen, and Kenny Thomas.

What also comes with this is perimeter and fast break defense, if we can't get into an offensive rhythm then we need to play aggressive D forcing player to take outside shots. We can't let guys like Lee Nailon who has been playing good lately or PJ Brown get hot, I want us to contest every outside shot and defend the Hornets from easy baskets.

AlKenny Thomas Projected Game Stats: 27 points 8 rebounds 2 assists

My Prediction:We are playing at home, against the worse team in the league if we play our game and play it hard, along with executing then we should be fine against this team.

*=Baron Davis may be out with an ankle injury

New Orleans played decent ball on Sunday here in Toronto. If the Sixers underestimate them they might lose.
I don't think Davis is playing, he hurt his Achilles yesterday.

    Sixers win, 101-89.

What an amazing first half by Kenny Thomas (19 Points and 9 Rebounds). Allen Iverson on the other hand is having a VERY difficult time. His shooting has been down right awful (3-15), but most importantly we have a big lead over the Hornets. So the 76ers will easily be able to walk away with a win.

    * Kyle Korver was moved back into the starting lineup.

And with a win against the Hornets, and a Knicks lost we would be tied for #1 in the Atlantic Division. Oh, and as I am writing this post, I just witnessed the Knicks get their hearts broken by Ben Gordon. [IMG] 88-86 Bulls

This was a good game by us and now with this win, we are tied with the Knicks for first in the division. This game obviously had some flaws on are part though. AI despite scoring 29 points had a terrible shooting nightgoing for 8-29, also the Sixers almost gave up a huge lead again, they were outscored 34-16 in the 4th quarter and that's unacceptble, if we were playing any other team this could have easily turned into another loss.

Also Kenny Thomas had a very nice game with a 21 and 15 performance, without his good play this again could have been a loss.

Next up an easy winnable game, the expansion Bobcats.

Great pullout win by Philadelphia. How about Kenny? 21 pts and 15 rebounds. That`s the Kenny Thomas we would like to see more often. Williamson also had a great game. Not alot of people realize he is a key part to this team with his scoring and rebounding. Man did anyone see highlights of the Bulls/Knicks game? Ben Gordons floater...one question though. Are we in a playoff spot now or do the Celtics need to lose and we need to beat the Bobcats? Anyway Charlotte can put on a show sometime with Wallace and Okafor but I see a W.

A win is a win, and this may not be the most convincing win that we got this season but it was a win. However this game is not a game we would want to build off of. Like Silky Smooth said, by any chance it would have been any other team except the Hornets of course we would end up losing this game.

Majority of the game was down right awful on the 76ers part?especially Allen Iverson performance. The only two positives aspects I can pick point out in this game was our ability to take care of the ball and Williamson/Thomas great performances, other than that, nothing special here at all. I've seen us but forth much better performances in game that we ended up losing. The Hornets out of all teams shouldn?t have been able to climb out of a 25 point deficit (but then again they are an NBA team so stuff like that happens), but that fact and the matter is that this game made it 100% clear to me and I don?t see why to everyone else that we cannot play with leads.

Not being able to play with leads is a real bad flaw to the overall team. We really need to work on that part because if we do get to the Playoff?s playing with leads is going to be real decisive to determining out success in the Playoff?s (if we get there). If by any chance we would have lost this game, it would mark the 5-6 game that we lost due to our inability of playing with leads.

But again, a win is a win and I'll take that on any day, but at the same time we didn't give that good of an effort especially against the Hornets. Hopefully, we can see an expected 10+ point win over the Bobcats tomorrow afternoon.
