I came across this snippet in an article about Lenny Wilkens. Apparently there is a rumor Larry Brown will leave the Pistons after this season. Any truth to this, or reasons why? I don't see any reason why Larry Brown would want to leave the Pistons.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Some see Thomas eventually turning to the biggest free-agent coach, Phil Jackson. When Jackson isn't criticizing Kobe Bryant, he has been campaigning for the Knicks job. A more plausible candidate may be Larry Brown, who is rumored to be on his way out of Detroit after this season. Brown is a close friend of Thomas' and would automatically go to the top of Thomas' wish list.</div>

It's possible Larry Brown may leave the Pistons yes but he won't go anywhere else. He will stay with Detroit or retire. He has no reason to carry on and go somewhere else.

If LB does leave then It's likely Joe Dumars will hire Bill Laimbeer to be head coach. Who many feel would be ready to be an NBA coach and do well. A big reason why he is coaching the Detroit Shock was to get used to be a head coach and be ready when his time comes.

Well Iam not saying that Larry Brown will take the Knicks job. But it wouldnt surprise me if he did leave Detriot and come to the big city. Brown has always been known to like to take on construction projects and build from the ground up. And there probably isnt a more rewarding project to reconstruct then the Knicks. If he can turn this Knicks team into just a legit contender then it would probably be as big a feather in his coaching hat as winning it all with Detriot last year. Iam pretty sure he still has his family as well as ties to the tri-state area from when he coached the Nets in the early 80's. So I wouldnt be shocked if he headed for "Project NYC"

Isiah Thomas will do anything to get a high profile coach here in NYC. And there really isnt that many options. Its just Brown, Jackson, Riley. Pat Riley is not living the Heat front office anytime soon, he help build a championship contender, he is gonna to ride that out. Phil wants the head front office job along with the coaching position from what I heard. The only problem with that is Isiah holds the head front office position. That means Dolan would fire Thomas and give Phil both high ranking positions, never going to happen. Plus handling all that decision making is probably to much even for a guy like Jackson. So that leaves Brown, Thomas will throw the dollars at him. And even tho..they are far over the cap, he will make a move or two to bring in a couple of players Brown would want to coach.

Interesting possiblity, but I see no reason other than that for Larry Brown to leave. As AllNet said, I would just expect him to just retire.

Either way, I don't think these rumours hold any water, atleast right now they don't to me.

I honestly don't think Brown has the desire to coach basketball anymore. This man has always had mix feeling on what ever coaching job he has had and I think that?s caused him to question his descion making over his coaching career. But I think LB deserves to retire, sure he may only have one ring (maybe two after this season) but I think he is fine with that. LB has been through a lot throughout his coaching career, and I think he is ready to give it up to spend time with his family.
