It is way too early to say whether somebody stinks or not since he's only been GM for les than a year. Jeez, his team has played less than half a year. This type of mindset is exactly what kills sports franchises. What is the key to successful NBA franchises? Stability. People thought that Krause was an idiot (well he might have been) when he took over the Bulls but he eventually helped them get 6 rings. What are the top NBA teams now? Spurs, Mavs, Kings, Detroit, T-Wolves, Miami, Indiana, Suns. Notice any trends? They have all had management stability for the most part. Did any of those teams fire their GM after less than one year? No.

Hell even McHale had the Joe Smith debacle but they survived. Give Mully and Monty a chance.

^I like Monty, I just can't stand Mullin. He's in love with the players that are ruining our chemistry

Oh, I will give Mullin a chance, simply because we have no choice but giving him a chance. And, I will continuously change my opinion on Mullin based on what he will do in the future. But then, don't we have a right to evaluate him for what he has done so far? Currently, I am not sure whether Twerdzik or Mullin is a worse GM in last 10 years, and believe or not, our biggest setback was to change the GM from Saint to Mullin. So far, his works have been horrible to say the least.

`Trading Jamison for capspace and starting job for Dunleavy. (F). Clearly, Mullin trusted Dunleavy and believed that Dunleavy will be at least as good as Jamison, who was the most consistant player since Mullin. After that move, our scoring dropped from top 5 to bottom half in the league, and even our defense in SF got worse. So, at least, we spent Jamison's caproom, right? Actually, that money was drained to Foyle and Fisher. Bottom line is that we lost one of most consistant and classy veteran, while not improving single aspect of our team.

`Signing Foyle for 8 mils per year/ 6 years, while not even trying to resign Dampier (D): Well, we needed a starting center and we had to resign one of two. At that point, Mullin was pissed at Dampier, because he opted out from the deal. So immidiately, we kinda overpaid Foyle, while let Dampier go. Problem was that Dampier was our only dominating force inside last season, and currently we desperately need a inside offense/defense, shot blocker, and rebounding, exactly what Dampier provided. If Mullin gave Dampier a chance, he could have easily resigned Damp, because he was unresigned quite long time until Cuban decided to sign him. To make things worse, Foyle has been nothing but a bust, and quickly became Fortson ver.2 in salary stand. Only positive side is that we managed to get 2 first rounders from Dallas, but we still got Najera and his 4 years salary...

    Fisher's 6 years/ 36 mils. (F): How do I feel about Fisher's deal?

    http://www.justbball.com/forums/showthread...64&page=1&pp=20

I loathed the deal at the beginning, and I hate the deal even more. Fisher is a decent backup PG. But, you simply don't pay backup PG 6 mils per year. Heck, even 2 mils is pushing.

Richardson and Murphy extension: (C+): It's really fortunate that both Richardson and Murphy are having a career year, and Richardson looks more and more like franchise player with his improvement. Also, I would love to see them as a Warrior for years. But, my problem is why did Mullin sign them this offseason, instead of next offseason? When there is very little difference? Next year, they will be a restricted FAs, so we can either easily match other teams' offer, or just resign them like this offseason again. And the amount will be pretty much same whether we resign them this year or next year. Also, if we renounce both players next offseason, we were looking for 20 mils caproom next year. Who knows what future hold? Suddenly, Yao doesn't get superstar reputation as before, and guys like Pierce may be available. Not that I want us to trade either players, but scenario like getting Yao or Pierce for our young players may not bee all that impossible. But, by signing those two players prematurely, we closed all possibilities. Many people said that Mullin won't overpay FAs because his relationship with players. Not only Mullin overpaid our own FAs, he couldn't fight against pressure of both player's agent, which I forgot the name at this point, so he resigned them a year early. At least, they are having career years, so I guess it turned out alright.

Draft (I): Last year, Mullin wanted Cabarkaba and he managed to get him this year. This year, Mullin drafted Biedrins. And, Mullin is currently observing another european forward. I can't say either way, because none of them got real chance to prove themselves yet. Also, I wish Mullin hides who he will draft better. When Saint drafted, we had absolutely no idea who we will draft, exception of Dunleavy. In contrast, everybody knew that we liked Biedrins, and it's fortunate that no team didn't snatch Biedrins away.

Firing Muss/Hiring Monty (I): I won't evaluate this deal, until Monty gets a chance to prove himself. But the bottom line is that we fired our most productive coach, because of the dispute between them and how Muss didn't utilize Dunleavy.

With last year's offseason, we took huge step back. We desperately need a inside presence, just like Dampier. And, it's hard to believe that we once has too many insider scoring so we had logjam at the post just couple years ago. We have hard time scoring, and it's also hard to believe that we once worried about too much scoring. Now, with Richarson out, we simply can't score enough points to win the game. Also, our caproom in 10 years disappeared before it materialized. This offseason was a nightmare for this club...

From what I understand, Richardson and Murhpy wouldve been at their toplist of free agents to sign and they didnt want to have to try to out bid another team to sign them. I think its turning out to be a pretty smart move the way both have been playing and still consistantly improving throughout the season..I wouldn't doubt that there would be teams out there that couldve offered a guy like Murph more money then we gave him..His #'s arent too far off what Carlos Boozer was putting up last year and he got a hugr contract this off season

Kwan you pretty much summed up what I was thinking, but what was awesome was that you stood by how you felt about the moves before the season actually started. I gave Mullin the benefit of the doubt and it didn't hit me how much money he had spent on mediocre free agents until you and Wtwalker spelled it out for us. The Murphy/Richardson signings, I have mixed feelings about because you're right, you can't even sign anybody else on top of re-signing them this offseason. He looked really weak as a GM when it came to pressure from their agent, Dan Fegan. BTW would we even have a chance at Yao with his option already exercised? I'd think we'd have to sign Murphy and JRich before that, unless you're saying that the Fisher and Foyle contracts are really hindering most of the cap flexibility. Even though I think Yao is overrated, I think the fact there are very few centers that can do what he does in the post and he could possibly play better with the Warriors under Montgomery. BTW I'd just like to point out that his poor weakside defense is exposed without Kelvin Cato to play along side him. Nonethless, you can't teach 7'6 and the skills he has. If we had to give up Troy Murphy for him, with Pietrus, and Speedy and draft picks, hell just take it. Paul Pierce, I would have loved to have, but what kind of players will Danny Ainge go for if a trade were to happen between us? If Pierce comes to Oakland I think it would revitilize the organization like Stephon Marbury did for the New York Knicks. I would offer anybody for him. The guy's from Oaktown and he's a proven go-to guy with the whole package in a shooting guard.

On a side note, Mully is so stupid for trading Nick Van Exel. I thought the plan was to use Dale Davis, but we don't even do it. If it was for cap relief then he blew it because NVE is planning to retire after this year, anyway. I thought it was a good move initially because Dale Davis is a good center, but that mean Fisher was going to be signed and that's when I was like... hmmm....I dunno....

Maybe Mully should have prioritized who he should sign first and then worry about using the MLE and some of the contract money to go for young talents dropped by other teams. Strong veterans can always be brought in trades or from the free agent pool. I was upset we didn't get Pryzbilla, Mihm, or make a play for Vladimir Stepania (who is still a FA right this moment). What is Mullin doing to address the Center situation when the first move he made during the offseason was to keep Foyle. Dumb dumb it just seems. At least get the fool for a bargain price, given his prior injury. Mullin must have been drunk at the time or something... But I guess we have no choice to give Mullin a chance, but hopefully he won't damage the future of the Warriors by taking on any more long, large contracts for questionable or mediocre talent.

thz, kwan and cust, great analysis by kwan as well, mullin didn't resign dampier probably bcoz he had dale davis in the roster, nontheless, he should at least get some contribution from him, or even show case him so that he could make a deal for him with his expiring contract. no doubt, should mullin waited for the next off-season to re-sign his top players, thats what all teams does. coz u'll never know when they'll face a season or career ending injury. above all, his signing is a no brainer, foyle was all of us should know is a bust from the start of his career, i wonder what mullin saw in him that make him worth the deal he gave him....

Welcome wvsw! I don't think Mullin ever planned to re-sign Dampier because of his questionable work ethic and attitude and the fact he was asking for the max. So instead of doing a sign and trade for a better center (I was hoping they'd go for Chris Mihm or Marcus Blount or some other offensive minded center and then send Dampier out East), he just locked up Foyle then and there, probably for political purposes and nobody was going to give Dampier the money he wanted. But since Mully had Foyle, the only player left that was originally drafted by the franchise, Mullin could make a statement to his other players that as long as a player is loyal you could finish your career with the same team that drafted you (as long as you're loyal like foyle, it doesn't matter if you've been a bust at #8). Mullin must have felt that Foyle was always there for Golden State through thick and thin just like he was when he came back to the franchise to finish his career and not some playoff team. At least Mullin was a star when we drafted him and was an incredible role player by the time he was ready to retire. I loved Mully's New York style toughness, but the guy has gotten sentimental or something or has gone back to drinking early in the offseason. His last couple of moves were okay, but they were no-brainers. Get something for Dampier, a pseudo-replacement for Brian Cardinal, and get draft picks and get a 6'11 small forward that looked great in his rookie year for two 2nd round draft picks.

Here's the problem with Foyle and Fisher, even though some of us initally gave Mullin the benefit of the doubt: We paid too much for players with no upside! If we couldn't even get a rebounding, shotblocking big man with some post game to replace Dampier and complement Murphy's game, at least get somebody with heart like a Scot Pollard or a promising Joel Pryzbilla or make a play for Illgauskus or something. But then again we probably wouldn't even use those guys like we're not using Dale Davis, who was supposed to be Foyle's backup, caproom relief/trade exception and is arguably our best center because of his post defense and rebounding. Also what makes me wonder a lot is why we haven't even explored guys like Vladimir Stepania, who was recently waived by the Blazers. The guy is a decent center from what I've seen and he could possibly be a little like Arvydas Sabonis. He's talented I tell you, but the Blazers are have already signed two shotblocking centers in Theo Ratliff/Joel Pryzbilla and are hoping the third center, Ha Seung Jin, is the Korean Yao Ming!

Sigh... I guess in the end you could say that because Dampier/Fegan was holding out and so was Mullin, it forced Chris to gamble on team players that could provide stability and then start somewhere with Jrich and Murphy. If that NY Trade for Kurt Thomas, Nazr Mohammed went down, I'd take it, but I guess either Isiah didn't want to give us more or take on the huge contract or Mullin wasn't big on Thomas or Mohammed. But that's in hindsight... since offers for Damp we're still being thrown out there and we ruined any flexibility to make moves because Dampier was greedy and Mullin jumped the gun with the Fisher/Foyle signing. Cheaney shouldn't have been signed, but the Eddie Najera+picks for Dampier trade came late.

another great analysis. from my pov, businesses should not run thru loyalty, if this is the case, golden states can never win a championship, the best u can come up with is an avg team that wins max 50% of the games. but never a championship. players will stay loyal if the team is on the right track and winning, otherwise, losing too much is very frustrating for any player to handle, especially when it's back to back sub-.500 records. yr in and yr out, the team spirit with be hurt. loyalty should only come after a team had successful in the season and paying the players for what they r worth. that way other FAs will be more easily attracted to the city, bcoz of their management, but building a team around loyal players with no upside or real help to the team, will go no where. i think golden states need a quick fix with their roster. or else, if a losing season after another will cost their upside players like jrich, murphy to leave and go to contention team. that will only leave mullin with his loyal players that can't win any games for him.
