<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Phoenix Suns acquired veteran swingman Jim Jackson and a 2005 second-round draft pick today from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for guard Casey Jacobsen, forward/center Maciej Lampe and rookie forward Jackson Vroman. ?Jim Jackson adds significant depth to our roster and should significantly increase our bench productivity. He is a savvy vet whose game fits our system well,? said Suns President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo. Jackson, who is currently in his 13th NBA season, owns career averages of 15.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 805 games (646 starts) with 11 teams (Dallas, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Golden State, Portland, Atlanta, Cleveland, Miami, Sacramento, Houston and New Orleans). </div> http://suns.realgm.com/ Good trade for the Suns, if they can have him starting, and move Q-Rich to the bench, it would help them a lot because Q-Rich is better beating on opposing bench players for a while, and playing the starters a little less. This also gives Lampe a great chance to get some PT. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1972196 Their's also rumours about Joe Johnson to Philly for Samuel Dalmbert, I'd rather them trade Q-Rich, but he salaries don't work that way. PG - Nash SG - Richardson SF - Marion PF - Amare C - Dalmbert That's some mad athleticism in the froncourt. If they trade JJ, Q-Rich would start, but while he's there, it would be good to make Q the energy man off the bench, to improve their bench. Actually even with young JJ gone it would be smart to start old JJ, and still have Q be the energy man.
Nice addition to the Suns, regardless of their point guard needs. The owner just sent a message to his team and the rest of the league that the Suns are serious about making a title run this year. Jim Jackson gives them a little more playoff experience and gives them solid depth at the swing position. He's also a solid defender and shoots the ball well from the perimeter. If the rumor to land Dalembert goes through, the Suns are going to be in great shape for the next few years. I think Lampe will finally get a chance to develop on a team focused on rebuilding. I thought he was a steal for the Knicks in the second round, and I was surprised they gave up on him so early. He showed some of his skills, before injurying his hand. He can give a team a lot of offense, I'm looking forward to what he can do for the Hornets.
Great trade! We nabbed a great and underrated shooter in Jackson and we unloaded some space from Lampe and Vroman. I always liked Jacobson though.
I love this trade for two reason, one, this opens up the Dalembert for JJ rumors which I hope come true. An Amare-Dalembert low post combo would be amazing which moves Marion back to his old spot of SF. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Their's also rumours about Joe Johnson to Philly for Samuel Dalmbert, I'd rather them trade Q-Rich, but he salaries don't work that way.</div> The Sixers have a ton of players that can fill in for that extra $5 million or so such as Aaron McKie ($5 million), Kedrick Brown ($2 million), and Glenn Robinson ($10 million). <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">PG - Nash SG - Richardson SF - Marion PF - Amare C - Dalmbert</div> I would love to see that lineup come playoff time, it gives us a real center with shot blocking ability, and we might actually be able to contend with the Spurs. Also on the bench for that lineup we would have Jim Jackson, Steven Hunter, and somebody eles from Philly (probably Aaron McKie or Glenn Robinson). I want to make this lineup come true so bad... I hope Lampe finally gets some playing time, something he didn't get here in Phoenix, possibly play a key role on a team that is rebuilding. I hope he develops into a good player.
Nice trade by the Suns, getting JJ will seriously help them with vet. leadership. If they get Sammy D, they will be legit contenders..not just the Dallas Mavericks of years past. Sammy and Amare is a freakishly athletic front court.
Too bad Jackson couldnt make the game tonight, Suns could use him... but seeing the Spurs guys getting injured and knocked down like dominos is evening it out.
Suns: Jim Jackson The Suns are taking care of that depth issue we've been talking about for the last month. They just traded for Jim Jackson, and he'll be coming off the bench. The plot thickens.
Well, they still don't have the depth after Jackson. A team of six great players will not last for a whole season and advance to the Finals. The Suns still have to get a quality big man to back Stoudemire up, and hopefully Barbosa will keep improving. Btw, this thread should be in the Suns forum, as it is more relevant to the Suns than the NBA.
I think this is awesome for the Suns. Jim Jackson is a great shooter who is an extremely good addition to our team. With him coming off the bench, this will help us in the future especially in the playoffs so our guys can get some rest. The players we gave up for Jackson were not helping our team at all averaging a total 8 points together compared to Jackson's 13 PPG. I think the Suns ripped the Hornets in this deal but hey, whose complaining?
Welcome to the boards AmareRocks32 I thin kthe Suns are just giving up even more depth in this trade. Their focusing it to having a 6 player team now. Jim Jackson is a good veteran addition for this team but in the long run not a good idea IMO.
I am happy to get Jackson, though disappointed that Lampe went. We probably did give up too much for him, but then I was never the biggest of Jacobsen fans anyway. Definitely could have used Jackson against the Spurs, hopefully it inspires Q to lift his game
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, they still don't have the depth after Jackson. Their PF/C depth was: PF - Marion | Outlaw| Lampe | Vroman C - Amare | Hunter | Voshkul | Lampe | Outlaw and now it's PF - Marion | Outlaw C - Amare | Hunter | Voshkul | Outlaw So their really wasn't any actual depth lost since those guys only played in garbage time, and they replaced Jacobsen with someone who's as good a shooter, and also a better rebounder, much better defender, and more versatile offensively. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think the Suns ripped the Hornets in this deal but hey, whose complaining?</div> Well considering Jim Jackson was holding out and not playing, the Hornets get to shed some contract, and they also get a pretty promising player in Lampe, they didn't get ripped by any means.
I like this trade. The Suns get Jim Jax who'll help this team immediately. In return they didn't give up much either, Jacobsen whos option wasn't picked up, Lampe who wasn't going to play here with Amare, Marion and even Hunter, same can be said with Vroman Colengalo denies that there is any truth to the JJ for Dalembert trade. I hate Q, I would much rather see him gone than JJ, but JJ won't come next season most likely, so it's more logical to trade him. Dalembert is FA after this year as well, but I'm sure he'll like the setting in PHX, and he could resign. I can't talk too much though since neither have been traded yet. PG: Steve Nash/Leondra Barbosa SG: Quentin Richardson/Jim Jackson SF: Shawn Marion/Jim Jackson PF: Amare Stoudemire/Bo Outlaw -C: Samuel Dalembert/Steven Hunter/Jake Voshkul I'd say that's an improvement from their roster before the Jim Jackson trade. But damn! I like JJ a lot, this team would be better off without Q with JJ rather than the opposite. Also, they signed Paul Shirley. Look for Shirley to be the goto down the stretch of the games.
^ Agreed, unless Q turns his game around in Phoenix I hate to say it but I would rather see him go for a center then JJ. If I were D'Antoni I would make Q come off the bench for a couple games and start the new JJ and hopefully Q will learn some from the experienced veteran. I hope the old Q for Nene rumors open up again, I think Nene or Dalembert would be perfect for this team to make a run. If we trade Q for Nene: PG - Nash SG - JJ SF - Marion PF - Amare C - Nene ---------------------------- If we trade JJ for a Dalembert: PG - Nash SG - Q SF - Marion PF - Amare C - Dalembert I would think lineup #1 would be better, Nene and Amare are still and freakishly athletic front court plus I think we can all agree that JJ is having a better season then Q. I want Q for Nene so bad...
Q was on the Nuggets radar this off-season, so I'm sure they would have interest in him if he went on the market, but I doubt it. With JJ gone after this year, they need Q at the SG to replace with Marion and Amare going back to their natural posistions. A more logical trade would be JJ to Denver for Nene, however Nene is needed in Denver, since K-Mart and Marcus Camby get hurt every other game.
I don't know why everyone keeps talking about trading JJ. The Suns have a successful Run 'n Gun style that only requires Steve Nash to stay healthy. They've really helped themselves picking up Jim Jackson who adds depth to a sorry bench, but they got the 2nd best record with a worse bench, (1st if Nash wouldn't have gone down). Any center less athletic than Amare will just hurt their style.
If JJ was traded for Dalembert I think it would be the perfect follow up trade to this one. Dalembert could fit in really well with this run and gun squad and he would allow Amare to move back to the 4. Acquire Dalembert and I think this squad is headed for the ring.

but how many more years can the suns expect to get from Jimmy jackson? i mean he's a great player and i got respect for the guy, but seriously he probably only got a few seasons left.

Seems pretty consistent to me. Obviously, people get older and he will retire within the next few years. However, if the suns can get 15 points out of him this year, that will be awsome! I do not the JJ trade at all. I hope it does not happen because it will mess too much with their starting 5.
