<div class="quote_poster">Quoting jmc1:</div><div class="quote_post">That's why it is hard for me to be excited about this team. I really think Van Gundy missed the boat when he came on board. (Not that Tomjanovich used him properly IMO either). I think you should build around your best players strengths. Then add players that complement those strengths.</div> Well, Yao has never been our best player. McGrady is right now and I believe Steve Francis was last season. The only reason Yao is our focus on offense now is because of his size, and the fact that everyone expects him to do so much. They do not take in mind that he is only 25, and that he lacks a lot of physical attributes besides height to be the best player in the division even. His reaction time is very slow, foot speed is not great, no upper body strength, bad stamina, and no hops. People need to realize that Yao at best might just be a 19/9 player, nothing better because he only has that much God-given advantages anyways.

I think if they had built the team around Yao in the high post last year, he would have been the best player on the team. I also think that Francis would have played much better, because he could have concentrated more on scoring. Yao IMO is a much more natural passer than Francis. But McGrady is by far the go to man on this team now. But the question is whether or not Yao can be a legitimate 2nd option down on the block. If Yao on the low post is your 2nd option, I think you will need a much better number 3 guy than the Jordan/Pippen, or Shaq/Kobe combo's had.
yao's main problem is to play smarter basketball, avoid petty fouls, if you look at the stats he puts up for the min. he plays, he's not bad at all, if he can get 4-5 min a game then he'd naturally be a 20/10 guy (but easier said than done)... now to the topic at hand, you must be crazy if you tihnk Sura has helped us overall... true he has helped us, but he has hurt us more... seriously I'm wathcing the rockets heat game and sura just missed a wide open Yao that was 5 feet from the basket guarded by a much much smaller man (this is with liek 4 min to go)... besides Sura isnt a penetrate/dish PG and he can't shoot (he's missed like 4 or 5 open shots this game)... I'd much rather have Wesley and Barry on the floor. I admire Sura for going after loose balls, and he is a good rebouding guard, but he doesn't really do much else, except dribble on top of the key and waste the shot clock down for our team, who already takes awhile to set up our offense. Seriously... Sura cannot run our offense, and while he makes great palys time to time, he's not what the rockets need. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting jmc1:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree, I don't think he will ever be much more than a 19/9 type player in the low post.
