I just found out that even if we don't make the playoffs and wind up in the lottery, we don't have our own pick! It was traded to Boston. How could Mitch Cupcake have pulled this off? We get Miami's pick and they go to the finals, we get zip! This season is like a nightmare that just keeps getting worse. [IMG]

    Cool Out Homeboy

WHILE I DESPISE MITCH THIS SCREWUP IS ACTUALLY A GOOD THING.
CHECK IT OUT:A LOTTERY PICK IS IS A GAUREENTED 2- 3 MILL PAYOUT FOR 3 YEARS. THE LAST COUPLE OF PICKS IN THE FIRST RND ARE $100,000 PICKS. I MEAN LOOK WE TRYING TO SAVE MONEY FOR SEASONED PROS,AND FREE AGENTS. PLUS WE ALSO WANNA DRAFT IN THE POSITION WERE MOST SENIORS ARE LIKLEY TO FALL(IF YOU NOTICE UNPROVEN PLAYERS SEEM TO GO PRETTY HIGH). THE PERSONS WE DRAFT IN THISPOSITION AS WELL AS THE 2 SEC ROUNDER(NO GUAREENTEED CONTRACT) ARE GOING TO COST US WHAT A LOTTERY PICK IS GONNA COST US, PLUS THE COULMINATION OF SAY FOR EXAMPLE WAYNE SIMION, JARRET JACK AND SAY RONNIE TURRAF (NBA.NET FOR PROFILES) COMMING OFF THE BENCH NEXT YEAR WITH VLADE AND SASHA PROBLY DON'T SOUND TO BAD. YES I KNOW YOU WERE HOPING FOR RAYMOND FELTON OR CHRIS PAUL AT THE POINT. BUT YOU GOTTA REMEMBER THIS TEAM HAS IT'S CORE AND IT'S STAR.WE NEED THOSE UNDENIABLE YOUNG ROLE PLAYERSWHO CAN GROW WITH THE SYSTEM.
HEY HOWS THIS SOUND: AN WITH THE 32ND PICK IN THE 2005 NBA DRAFT {LA Lakers receive a 2005 second-round pick from Atlanta. (Kareem Rush trade 120604) via [Charlotte receives a 2005 Atlanta second round pick. (Predrag Drobnjak trade 081604) } THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS SELECT J.J. REDDICK FROM DUKE UNIVERSITY.

Welcome to the site Mr. Bryant..if you could type w/o using the ALL CAPS, everyone would appreciate it.

I'm also not too, down on not having a draft pick for 2005. Even if we are a lottery team, it would be a wasted pick, because our starting 5 is set for the most part. A player being selected in the lottery should be a starter, or at least make some type of contribution to a team, otherwise it's wasted talent on the bench, sucking up cap space.

I'd like to see the Lakers start drafting physical players, who take pride in their defensive contributions. A defensive speed guard would be a nice addition, along with an enforcer in the paint who can rebound and knows how to use their body, ala Danny Fortson.

Isn't the Lakers' 2005 pick lottery protected? I thought we'd keep it if we fail to make the playoffs, Boston only gets it this year if we do make it.

Anyway, not that I wanted the Lakers to miss the playoffs, but I'd really like them to pick in the lottery once. I'd like to see if the Lakers are as good at evaluating talent with the better players in the lottery as they've been lower in the draft. They've done a pretty decent job drafting in the last couple of seasons IMO. Well, alright, there was no real slam dunk type of pick, but all solid role players who can contribute if given the opportunity and used the right way.

    Lottery pick for the Lakers?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Cypher:</div><div class="quote_post">Isn't the Lakers' 2005 pick lottery protected? I thought we'd keep it if we fail to make the playoffs, Boston only gets it this year if we do make it..</div>

Has anyone out there been able to confirm this, was the pick traded to Boston lottery protected?

It's a conditional pick, but the details have not been made available. I imagine if the Lakers are in the lottery they will keep the pick and Boston would get their 1st round pick next season.

I'm not sure of all the specifics, but it is most definately lottery protected this year. If you guys are in the lottery, we can't have it.
I believe it also top 10 protected the following year, top 3 the year after that but then all bets are off. Call me nuts, I don't see the Lakers being first pick eligable in 3 years.
Plus, the celtics always screw this kind of stuff up. We had a similiar deal in place with Denver and grabbed the pick to take Kedrick Brown when, had we rolled the pick over one more year we could have had Carmelo Anthony. How'd that work out for us?
