He will step down After the Lakers game against the Blazers tonight. It's due to health reasons.

I'm sure there will be a press release soon enough.

More turmoil in Laker land. I wonder who they are going to bring in to replace him.

One thing I can promise, people will turn it to look like Kobe ran him out of town.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A team spokesman confirmed that Tomjanovich is considering resigning because of health reasons -- though not a recurrence of bladder cancer -- but denied that a final decision had been made.

Bucher reported that the coach would step down after Tuesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, but spokesman John Black said that would not be the case.

"He's considering several options, and resigning is one of them. That decision has not been made," Black said. "There won't be an announcement tonight. He won't coach tonight [at home against Portland] because he's not feeling well. This has nothing to do with cancer."</div>

    Nothing definative as of yet.

    Well....

First, even if Kobe was part of the reason, Rudy's too classy of a person to say so.

Second, Given the first premise, along with Kobe's recent past, it's reasonable for people to speculate that he had some hand in the matter.

Either way, if it's bad for the Lakers, I'm all for it. [IMG]

This will be a tough loss for the Lakers if Rudy T does step down. He was a solid replacement for Phil Jackson and was doing a decent job with the Lakers this year. Right now I can't think of another coach to step in and handle the Lakers. A new coach will mean a new system to learn, and the Lakers will have to start from square one again.

I just hope Rudy T's health improves regardless if he returns to coach or not.

Rudy T. is a great guy, but very overrated as a coach. His rotations make no sense whatsoever and etc etc I don't want to get into since they ain't the thread. I will still miss him as a coach..

From what I hear on the radio, some sources told Bucher the descion was final and some sources told him that Rudy T was considering other options resigning being one of them. Either we this has got to be a negative for the Lakers. Head coaching changes or even talks of them in the middle of a season mess up your team chemistry overall and can have a long term affect on the season.

I also heard on ESPN radio Kobe had nothing to do with it, and was as shocked as everyone else was when he heard the news. I also heard that Rudy's reasoning for resigning were partially medical, but also had something to do with disatisfication in the Lakers themselves.

Well I take back my comments about Phil, I also heard he was in the running. Do I think he would come back to play with Kobe? Ehh...Will kobe accept him? Yes. I would take Phil with open arms...

Whoever they consider, please...and I mean PLEASE do not think about Doug Collins....

You all are partiallly wrong in the reason for rudy's consideration of retirement/resigning. He did say that it was mainly "health reasons" for considering resigning. But I saw from KTLA 9 NEWS that it was also but I feel mainly because of getting no support from the lakers above (maybe the owner or management). But it's not because of kobe, kobe was shocked hearing the news..I don't think he would say anything abt rudy when he's still nursing his ankle. It's hard to do two things at once when you're in pain. I don't think rudy was a great coach in utilizing odom but i think they're not underachieving at all. I mean, he made the lakers a good 3 pt shooting team and chucky atkins is playing like streetball michael jordan at times

If he leaves I want Hamblen to take over. He's a good coach and he would probably implement a system that is near Phil and Rudy's systems.

Coach Rudy T. will step down and from what i have heard he might not coach an NBA game. I was told that his wife and children want to spend quality time with him and that a press conference wil be held somtime later today. i truly hope for the best for Rudy T. and our prayers are with him. As far as coaching goes, i think Hamblen is doing great and they should give him a chance considering the lakers not going far even if they make the playoffs. And if Buss could talk Phil Jackson back into his postion we might JUST see Jordan and Pippen of the future!

Its sad that Rudy is going to leave i think he is one of the greatest coaches. I think Byron Scott would have been good for the position if he wasnt on N.O
