    Charley Rosen's take

Poor Rudy T. Coaching the Lakers was never a good idea for him. Too much glitz and unrestrained star-power for his low-key, nice-guy approach. Frank Hamblen is wise in the ways of the league. He's also cynical and extremely tough-minded. But Hamblen is happy to keep a low profile so he'll be sure to follow the party line ? at least in public.

According to a report on ESPN, Tomjanovich is going to resign as the Lakers coach Tuesday night. Assistant coach Frank Hamblen, the only holdover from Phil Jackson's staff, will take over the team on an interim basis.</div>

Whoa. That is sudden and unexpected. I definitely see Rudy back with the Rockets or as a coach elsewhere. However, I just don't see Rudy returning as the Rockets head coach again.

What is he doing this for, is it his health again or he just doesnt like the team. The lakers looked great with him and maybe this can slow down their playoff chances, which is really good for the rockets

This is really shocking news. The Lakers were doing great with him. I really didnt expect this. I hope he comes back to the Rockets, maybe not as head coach, but some other postion. His presence alone would give the team boost I think.

Rudy's blaming it on his health again, just like he did when he quit from our job. However, shouldn't he have considered that before agreeing the Lakers job? Now he's screwed the Lakers up big time.

At least now I can root against the Lakers with a clear conscience. The best thing for Rudy is to take the rest of this season off to spend time with his family and relax. If he wants to still be involved in the game, he should take a less stressful job like assistant coach or scout. Lots of ex-coaches are still in the league as assistant coaches (Del Harris and PJ Carlissimo come to mind).

This totally came as a shock to me. It probably wouldn't effect Houston that much except maybe hurt Laker's chances of winning. That in turn, should help us in the playoff race since both teams are probably going to get the 6th, 7th, 8th, or unranked seed. I really don't know why he's resigning though. Either's he's just blaming it on a health issue or he just doesn't want to take the stress anymore. Sounds a bit out of the blue and suspicious.

Shocking news, I feel sorry for the lakers, their season is a drama. They manage to play well in their first season without Shaq, they're even in a fairly decent playoff position. Then their coach leaves! in the middle of a season! I can't see how this really affects the Rockets. It seems whenever something bad happens people always seem to blame Kobe, dunno why i'm bringing this up but it just annoys me...

He doesn't defend much of what is said about him. That and I think people like to sell the drama. It would be interested to see what points they would have used to sell Jackson's book if he had not bad-mouthed Kobe.

    SideNote:

    It is now official

Rudy Tomjanovich resigned as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, citing health concerns brought on by the job.

"There are no outside influences, be it pressure from above, anything to do with my players or being here in Los Angeles," he said. "This is all about me and how I'm wired. Nobody put pressure on me but me."
