I thought I would bring this thread back Some players that I have been looking at during our run *cough* *cough* to the playoffs: Potential 1st Round picks Jarrett Jack Strengths: Seems like this sky is the limit for this kid. He is still 21 years old and is regarded as the prototypical point guard. He's also 6'3, which is pretty good size for a guard. Makes the simple pass and steps up for his team when they need him to and is a very strong and physical player. Defensively this guy is super. His length and athelticism wreak havoc on opposing guards. Great at playing transition and half court basketball, he is known as an assistant coach on the floor telling his teammates where to go and giving the ball to them at the right times. The main thing is that he doesn't take shots outside of the offence and when things are not going right he takes it upon himself to score the basket when it is needed. Weaknesses: One thing I am worried about is his outside shooting but with having to deal with Milt (I have no range or loft on my jumper) Palacio I can deal with it for now. He does shoot a decent % from 3 point at 42%, which is better than Dukes JJ Redick but he does take less 3's. He will get NBA range on the 3 in time and I think he is the perfect compliment to Rafer's frenetic style. On a side note: He is Chris Bosh's best friend. We should not let this factor into our decision but it is something to note. Hakim Warrick Strengths: He's an extremely athletic player that can jump out of the gym. Easily will be the best jumper if he is on the Raptors squad. Run's the floor very well and has shown range from the mid to 3 point. He doesn't take a lot of 3's but he has shown that he can hit from that range judging from Big East Tournament. Defensively he can be a monster due to his long arms and his athelticism. Weaknesses: There are a lot of question marks about his size and his shot and his position. He is only 210 pounds, which is pretty light any way you look at it. To make an example Jarrett Jack at 6'3 is 203 pounds, Hakim Warrick is 6'8 at 210 pounds. He has a midrange shot that has been effective but it still remains to be seen whether he could hit that shot in the NBA and if he could eventually hit the NBA 3. He is known as a tweener. Scouts don't know which position he will play. I think he will play the 3 most of the time but will play the 4 to give Bosh some rest at times. Player he is mostly compared to is Darius Miles. I refute that because Miles is a malcontent and he came directly from highschool. It is a known fact that players that are drafted as seniors have more maturity than those coming from highschool. Potential 2nd round picks Julius Hodge Strengths: Okay it's not exactly the best picture I could find but he's a 2nd rounder anyways. He's a 6'6 swingman that can play 3 positions on the floor (1, 2, 3) which makes him extremely versatile. Just think Jalen Rose without a great mid range shot or post game but better defence. Good spot up shooter from 20 feet and out and has a good ability to drive to the basket. Good athlete and has long arms that create problems defensively for opposing players. Great vocal leader. Weaknesses: Doesn't always make the best decisions on the court and NC state uses him in mostly a point guard role. A streaky shooter. Can get frustrated at times and commit silly turnovers and fouls. Sometimes his passion gets the best of him. Very skinny and will have to put on weight if he wants to play in the NBA. JJ Redick Strengths: The purest of pure shooters. He is arguably the best shooter in the NCAA. Never stops moving on offence, amazing off the ball, which would be great for the Raptors since the all they like to do is stand around on offence. His free throws are so good they are automatic. He hustles and plays every point and every posession like it is his last. Regarded as an above average defender. With the Raptors plan of attack of throwing 3 point bombs from everywhere he would fit in very nicely has a Jon Barry type of player. He doesn't have Jon Barry's size but I do believe that he will have a better shot than him in time if given the chance. Weaknesses: Not really known to drive the basket, which can really suck when his shot doesn't fall. Rebounding is below average and he can really shy away from contact, which would be perfect because Toronto has gotten so used to Vince Carter's old days. He would fit right in .
I didn't understood- which pick we have in the next draft ??? 1# 2# ?? or what ??? Its too complicated for me all this sh*t...
With the draft positions we have, Jarret Jack is not a guy we go after in the first round, he's a late first, early second round pick.

Mark my words: His stock will go up once on draft day. High enough for Toronto to take him with the 7th-11th pick.

^I thought you were referring to www.nbadraft.net because they projected him as a late first rounder. Here is my source: http://www.draftcity.com/mock.php?y=2005, they are a pretty reputable draft site as well.
Yea draftcity is where I go for a lot of my draft stuff, but I don't think they've updated lately, but if he's in our pick range, he'd definately be a good pick because of the chemistry he would have with Bosh.
will be holding my breath till our second round pick really really want to see nate robinson in on the raptors! by the way who is this garcia kid the rick pitino cant stop talking about has even said he is the best player he has ever coached.
I'm really loving Warrick's game, I hope we can get him cos he has a ton of potential, and if he adds a little more weight, and fixes his shot, I think he'll be huge.
i think we have to get a guard no more forwards! a person who can play both pg/sg. we have too many forwards right now. if we can ge bogut i say get him! but we need to be careful cuz there is so much talent right now!
Jack is a late first round pick at best. We should take Felton with our first pick for security. Then with our other pick take a versitile swingman, like Graham, Warrick... somewhere along those lines. I like Hodge as a 2nd round pick alot, he's showing everyone in the Madness hwo good of a player he is, so he could go higher than 2nd round... Reddick... meh, he's 6'4 but has no size and can't play the 1, or the 2 in the NBA. He'd be great off the bench to get some spark though... Watch the tourny closely for great talent. I want proven skill.
re I'd take Reddick in the second round. There's always a place on any team for a hardnosed no-nonsense shooter.
What I'm saying is a quality PG with our first pick then the 2nd one a quality swingman. Our 2nd rounder, someone proven. A sleeper that slipped through the first round. Like the big man from Vermont I forget his name... Msipi State's Lawrence Roberts who had a subpar year this year, but is still goign to be good.... Wayne Simien, who's stock has dropped we can get him in the 2nd round if we want to draft based on talent. I really think Hodge has proven himself. We should take him with one of our 1st round picks. His only weakness is that he's not big enough for the NBA, but that's what they said about Bosh too. Hodge will be able to put meat on him for the NBA game, and he'll be a star. He's so versatile, which is what we need.
Warrick is not a good fit for our team, yes he's a made athlete, but he's a 3/4 undersized tweener with not shot, and not sufficient handles to play the 3 as a slasher, like a Daruis Miles would. Our first pick should go to the best player available that isn't a PF really, that's all it boils down to. A SG - PG - SF or C, whatever we can get at that position would be nice, but I'd rather stay away from centers and go after the other positions.

Quoting BoShSaNiTy:

Jarret Jack, Salim Stoudamire...2 of the best avalible that wont go before the raps pick.
I'm worried that Jarret Jack's injury problems make him seem similar to Baron Davis. He seems to have a lot going right now.
Hodge's stock is going up with the way he's leading NC State. I think he'll be a mid to late first round pick.
Jarrett Jack or Raymond Felton in the first round and JJ redick in the second if he's there...we could get julius hodge and if we're really lucky, get juan mendez in the second round...
