I thought that is a nice experiment. Marbury really is a shoot first PG. Right now our first obligation is a distributor. We need someone who can share the ball. I see this move kind of like LeBron. James. Remember when he was running the PG? McInnis was brought in to exploit his true scoring abilities. James as the PG has to try and balance his scoring as well as his distributing. Now remember back in the playoffs? Hardaway was the PG, and Marbury the SG. That worked out very well. The conversion was made when we had those two games in which we almost won. Anyway, that took a whole bunch of pressure against Marbury as he was able to score willingly and he used his passing abilities to still create as well. Marbury has a little height disadvantage however, he is quicker and is just as strong as most SG's. Also it would give Hardaway an advantage over just about any PG with his 6'7 size. I see this being a great move! Is it just me or does it seem Wilkens was a better coach last year? Anyway, Crawford is also a candidate for the PG. He really is a natural PG too, he was moved at the 2 because of Marbury. I see an experienced and proven capable PG in Penny Hardaway being a better option at the 1. In the playoffs he averaged 16.5ppg and 6.8apg. I think that is very versatile. I think Crawford is a very good option for us coming off the bench. We get a nice boost of energy and quick offense and he can also run the point if he wants to. I also think a nice shake up to this starting lineup will actually do us some good. Maybe that's what it needs. Anything is wortha try. The way we have been playing as of late, a shake up as been evident for us. I also think Hardaway deserves to start. The way we have been treating him, and also he has played effectively for us, I think shows he should start. Once people started hopping on the Crawford bandwagon people for got about the role players like Penny Hardaway. He has been very helpful to us. That's why I don't know why clowns that don't watch the Knicks comment negatively on him. His numbers have been very solid since returning. Ariza has been very good for us starting so I wouldn't take him out the lineup quite yet. I think maybe if Crawford lost his starting job to Hardway, it might allow him to learn more and he might also adjust his highly undisciplined game. Either way we ought to give it a shot. I mean what do we have to lose? We are a franchise worst in January and can it get any worse than this? Not really, we should try it out, it sounds like a very nice idea. Marbury might also like the idea of just scoring instead of worrying about everyone else all the time being the PG. So this works out because Marbury exploits his scoring to the fullest which is what we have been needing as of late, Hardaway more of a team oriented player gets a start and a chance to help us and actually be a part of the team. Crawford learns from veterans and hopefully alters his game to a more disciplined and controlled style of play. Again, it definitely deserves testing.
Wow, this shows me that Herb Williams is doing a good, good job. Stephon would make a great SG, and I think it would have the same effect on him as AI had moving to the PG (AI is definitely better at the point than he is at the 2)
Stephon Marbury is ineffective without the ball being in his hands for at least 85% of the time. Therefore, this experiment will be a failure.

I dont think it'll be a longterm project. Probably just something that they do for 15 minutes a game for a little while. I do like Penny, and if he can stay healthy he can contribute. Marbury has shown that he needs the ball to be successful, but maybe he can learn something from this, or at least make him think about passing more.
I'm guessing Herb plans to put the ball in Crawford's hands, but then you have the same problem with Crawford. The Knicks can't play Penny for long stretches at point guard, so I also think it won't work.

Anybody with two good eyes(or even one eye) and the MSG network can tell Crawford is a shooting guard. There wont be any problems defensively for either team since we'll have the same players on the floor just playing different roles. The main problem with Crawford running the point is that he doesnt have the mindset. He's not willing to give up the ball. He has enough handle but without that "pass the ball" mindset he'll make a bad point guard. However at this point I'm willing to try anything. Everyone knows Crawford isnt going to come off the bench. A better idea than Crawford running the point, I think would be to start Penny at the 3 spot and let him play point forward. That way Marbury and Crawford will be able to look to score and Penny should be able to get his own shots as a result.

Even in Chicago he was playing the 1 untill Hinrich came and he played the 2 and averaged 5apg. His apg show it too. I think sometimes puts more stress on his 2 guard role than necessary. He thinks he needs to score all the time.

Even in Chicago when he was running the point he shot the ball too much because he thinks like a shooting guard. You proved my point. Hinrich came along and took over the point and he's not even a true point guard either, he's playing at the 2 spot now, which implies that Crawford is a bad point guard. You dont see any tendencies of a point guard in Crawford. There have been a couple of occasions when he was running the point and he dribbled the ball up the court, across the timeline and just fired a three out of the blue. He's a natural shooting guard. Hardaway should play point forward for us. We get to have our current top scorers looking to score. The offense should run more smoothly if Penny is at point forward.
sounds good Hey you gotta give Herb credit hes trying. The team is struggling so he is trying to shake things up to get better results. Its like a baseball manager switching around the lineup to get an unproductive team to produce. Hey we've lost 14 of 16 its worth a shot
Yeah I think Penny Hardaway would be great as a Point Forward, we saw what Scottie Pippen done for the Portland Trailblazers when he played that position. This way Stephon Mabury and Jamal Crawford can feed off Penny Hardaway. I've always stated that Penny Hardaway is the New York Knicks best play maker, and it worked in the NBA Playoffs last year, well sort of ............. but at this point things need to be shifted!

If Herb decides to use Marbury at the 2 he damn well better be sure not to use Crawford at the 1. Crawford is the anti-point guard. This guy is not about getting his team involved, he is more concerned about shooting the ball until his arm falls off. He doesn't have a high enough basketball IQ to play at that position no matter what anyone says. If I were a Knick I would not be adverse to putting Penny in as a point foward. He did a great job of it in Orlando but then again he had Shaq. I still say to leave Marbury at the 1. Herb is just doing this to get some sort of response from his team. But I always thought that the Knicks defense needed to be worked on. Their offense is fine, do something about their damn defence!!!
^He is a natural PG. At 190 playing the 2, he tries to find a way to score. His chucks are sometimes the only things he can do. He is about getting his team involved. His court vision is great and the only reason why he is not playing the 1 is because of Marbury. Crawford is a natural PG. He also did a pretty good job for us in the playoffs. He gave us about 6 assists per game in his 2 PG starts. This is an excellent move. The Knicks at times have been struggling to put points on the board. Marbury needs to focus on the team and his scoring at the same time. Doing this he still manages to put up 20 points. That is an effective scorer. Switching him over to the 2 will exploit his scoring abilities to the fullest. It wont be as much of a problem as some of you think. Alright with Marbury at the 1 we have managed to compile a pretty bad record. Don't you think we should change something? Isn't it worth a shot? We have lost 13 of 15, why not? Now, what can we do about their defense? Tear a part the whole team this season and get some defensive oriented players? No, we can't do that. We are stuck like this for a while. With our defense being this poor, our offense will have to carry us through.
^Ummmm have you seen him play on the Bulls when he was a full time point guard? Natural is not the thing that comes to my mind often when I think of Crawford as a point guard. I think the only reason he is not playing point guard is because he really SUCKS at that position. I mean if Isiah saw him as a point guard he wouldn't have signed him no? He already had one in Marbury. I mean for a guy that has averaged only 5 assists a game once in his career, I do not call him a natural point guard. I mean if you can't tell from his game, the stats should tell the whole story: Assists per game 00-01- 2.3 apg (1.39 turnovers a game) 01-02- 2.4 apg (1.39 turnovers a game) 02-03- 4.2 apg (1.68 turnovers a game) 03-04- 5.1 apg (2.41 turnovers a game) I won't add this years totals because he is a shooting guard. But really those assist and turnover numbers do not tell me that he is a natural point guard. They actually tell me that he was a horrible point guard. I just do not see how he is all about getting the team involved. I don't see how this is an excellent move for the Knicks. Marbury needs to have the ball in his hands to score and make plays. He is not the type of person to curl off screens and cut to the open basket. This just trades one player who needs the ball in his hands for another. And if that is the case I would rather have Marbury run the point because he can just get his teammates involved a lot more than Crawford can.
