When asked, "Do you think NBA players are overpaid," how do you respond. Well I respond by saying, ya damn right. These players are getting paid in millions which is just ridiculous if you ask me. Millions of dollars to entertain? That's the worst thing I've heard in a while. It just pisses me off to see NBA players getting paid as much as they are. Should they be paid anymore than the average working man/woman? Heck no. The average working man and woman actually go out and earn their money and for them to be making, not even a fraction of what the NBA players make is horrible.

This money is like a poison to people. When highschool players have the chance at going to college and really shining playing for a great basketball school, they see they have a chance at a late 2nd round pick and could it on the bench for a while. And you know why they wouldn't mind that? Money. The money poisons their mind. Too many young athletes go to pro sports because they want money. Yes the money can be very tempting, hanging right in front of them waiting to be grabbed, but it's taking away from their talent level and is making their game worse.

Yes, I understand it was a great thing that 7 NBA players did a good deed with their money and donated $1,000 for every point they scored in their games. I love players who do good deeds with the millions of dollars they make. But do these players deserve the money they recieve? No. Players don't play the game anymore for the love of it, they do it for the money. The money have poisoned their minds into making them money hunrgy and the love of the game isn't their anymore. Should these NBA players be allowed to make more in a year, than my whole family will make in their lifetimes combined? Heck no. It's ridiculous.

Let's take Latrell Sprewell for a second. He's making, what, around $10 million right now, and he's complaining? I'm finding this obserd(sp?). He has a chance to make more money in a year than most people will make in their entire lives. He's claiming, "I have a family to feed." $10 million isn't enough to feed your family? You can feed the whole neighborhood, check that, he can feed probably the whole damn state. Grow up, quit being the money hungry baby that your being and play the game. Don't play it because your getting money, play it because of your love for it.

Just more of a reason why I would take the college game over the pro game anyday.

They get paid on the amount of revenue they bring in, the average working man doesn't bring in billions of dollars in revenue for 6 months of work, NBA players do, simple as that.

I don't know what their is to argue, Ticket Sales + Merchandise sales + all the other monetary things they do for a franchise is what get's them their pay. Even after playing all the players, the Franchise get's even more money than they used to pay salaries.

I agree, so in a sense, w should blame ourselves for supporting them. The less fans the NBA has, the less money they'll make. Simple as that.

My friend once observed, "it's ridiculous how doctors who save lives everyday get paid jack while these guys get paid millions just to put a ball in the hoop".

I thought about this for a while and I think og15 has answered my pondering. It's because doctors don't rake in revenue.

    Such a sad world.

Well doctors do get paid a pretty hefty amount of money.
But if you boycot the NBA it will go out on the clubs in the first hand, then the players.

Well the whole NBA orginization gets paid too much. The price of tickets for the average working man is way too high. What is it, like 60 bucks for a decent ticket? You are only getting 2 hours of entertainment. Of couse i am going to some NBA games this year, i am a fan, but i still think i'm paying too much. However, its a supply/demand situation. THe demand is high for NBA entertainment, therefore the ticket prices are going to be high. If the players arn't getting the money then the owners are getting it. WHo would you rather see make the money? The owners or the players? Someone is going to get it....

Are they getting paid too much? Yes, does it matter? No, simply put if you don't like it and despise it that much, don't attend any games, don't buy any merchandise, infact just watch high school games. To the topic maker, you said they shouldn't be paid more then the average working man or woman, well thats like saying lawyers and doctors should be paid as much as a hard working cashier, most basketballers work hard on their game, I know I do, of course I don't get paid anything I just do it for the love of the game but say if someone was to offer me money to play, i'd take it, I guess i'm greedy, but everyone wants money, if you say you don't, you're lying.

Are they overpaid? Yes. Are we paying them? No. The thing is I really don't care as long as the money isn't coming out of my pocket. Let the GM's worry about how much money their players are going to get.

Of course their getting overpaid. All the entertainers out there are getting overpaid. See actors, actresses, or artists. It's simply because the fans want to see them- so therefore the demand is high, so then the franchises can afford to keep the prices on the tickets high. I agree with CourtKing. Its the general managers that decide how much to pay the players- and if they overpay them, well the franchise is just killing itself. The fact is, players will always be overpaid to go dribble a ball and throw it into the hoop so there really isn't much to be complaining about since isn't that what you want to see?

    overpaid?

No NBA players arent overpaid. If the owners are going to charge x amount for tickets then the players want their cut. For the players to get less money the owners would have to have lowered prices and that aint happening.

I think they're overpaid, but not enough to the point where I'm going to actually sit down and think about it and complain. Also, you can't really compare NBA players to an "average working man or woman" because an "average working man or woman" is not the absolute BEST in their field, like NBA players are. Don't tell me that the absolute best mechanics don't get apid accordingly, because they make more than an average man or woman mechanic. It's called capitalism...would a switch to communism make you happy?

All athletes in all sports are overpaid. It's a joke and fans have to foot the bill with exorbitant prices in sporting events. It's hard to even go to the games and enjoy it now.

For all the smart guys who think the players get paid too much, answer this: Where should all those monies go, if not to the players?

I don't think the NBA players are overpaid. Three reasons.

    1. Without them, we'd complain about there being no sports. They entertain us. We see a nice dunk. Or no look, or a great block, and that makes are day, it makes us happy. As Americans, we just look for thinkgs to complain about, we need to pin something on someone to make our lives make sense. Don't you pay for that jersey? Didn't you say those Lebrons are Smokin'? If it weren't for basketball, i wouldn't be typing this. How can we say "NBA players are overpaid" when we just asked where to get Kobe Bryant's high school jersey? Actors get paid, they entertain, Athletes get paid, they entertain.

    2. Could you do what they do? I don't think you could. You know you don't get a day to yourself. If your lucky enough to make 7 or 8 figures, do you know what is on your shoulders. fourteen players, 100's of personel, millions of fans, and a major city's pride. That's a lot more than entertainment now. You risk injuries that can paralyze you, break bones in your body, an ultimately take years off of your life. You lift weights everyday, Even in the off-season you have to train and meet with personel a lot. If you have one bad game, you'll never hear the end of it. You don't get a sick day or a bathroom break, or anything. You have to listen to things people say. They'll bring up your race, family, sexuality, and manhood. And you have to sit there and take it. Look at Artest, he did what anyone here who isn't a puss would do, and he's the satan of the NBA. You have one mistake and you lose those 7 figures, fast. Actors get paid $22 mil a movie for doing stuff for 3 or four months, and they aren't even overpaid. After taxes you makes half of what your contract says. You have to be a role model for kids and never say what you want or no one likes you. You have to give a lot of that money to charity, spend a lot of time doing charitable things, which leaves barely enough time to be with your family or yourself. And on top of all that, they still have to hear how spoiled they are.

    3. Put yourself in their shoes. If you got paid what they did, would you think you're overpaid. I bet you wouldn't, you'd say what i just said, you'd say you're underpaid. If you thought they were overpaid, then go and train and make it to the NBA, since it's so easy. Trust me, I trained and fluked in high school, it was too hard then. Imagine the NBA's stress.
