With all the CRAP being thrown around about Yao, this just pushes the line.. http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...PORTS/502070326 Only a paragraph mention of Yao, but I thought this quote was quite amazing. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And with Tracy McGrady hoisting up 25 shots a game, Yao should grab six to eight rebounds alone from his teammate.</div> Please name one guy that averages 8 OFFENSIVE rebounds .. The thing that annoys me so much is that Yao and KG's first 3 year stats are very close. The guy is 7'6, 310 lbs., and sets more screens than guys who install windows -- and you want 8 offensive rebounds out of him?! Amare averages .1 more rebounds than Yao does, and he gets away with it? He's 8 inches shorter, and weighs a good 65 pounds less, obviously he's a helleva lot more athletic than Yao. There's my 2 cents.. Thoughts and Comments?
What's new? Yao will constantly get knocked on by critics who know less about basketball than a first-grader. Even if he averages 25 and 12, people will still say that he should lead the league in scoring and rebounding simply for being that tall. Expectations got too high for him when Yao had a very successful and promising rookie season, and despite him playing better every year, he still gets knocked on for playing below expectations. People just can't accept the fact that he might just be a 20/10 guy at best.

He is on a team with a rebounding machine in Shawn Marion, and one of the best rebounding guards in the league, Quentin Richardson. Yao should be grabbing more boards, but this statement was a little too far maybe? 6-7 offensive boards is crazy, he will get better as he progresses with his career, he just won't be the superstar some thought in my opinion.
This guy's just trying to seek attention . He's just a hater who doesn't like all stars. He even included kobe in the list and blames him for everything even though without kobe the lakers are doing terrible. I wouldn't take him seriously
WOW 18.3 ppg - 8.5 rpg - 1.85 bpg - .531 fg% - .776ft% Thats very dissapointing....? Sure some stats have dropped but slightly. Yao is not a dissapointment. You wonna talk about dissapointments talk about players like Kwame Brown or Tyson Chandler. These guys are young, athletic, tall, and big , they should be dominating. The problem is, people just want more out of Yao way too fast.
Yao isn't a great rebounder because he lacks agility and timing. Also, his rebounding totals won't be very high because he only plays 31 minutes a game and the Rockets play at a relatively slow pace which results in less missed shots. If Yao played 35 minutes a game on the Sacramento Kings, for instance, I think he could easily average around 10 boards a game. I don't know if Yao will ever be able to improve his quickness to the ball, his slow reflexes, or his weak hands which hurt his rebounding ability. But he can improve his stamina and timing, which could go a long way. It's too much to expect 12+ rebounds a game from Yao, but he could potentially average about 11 rpg I think.
hey magnomonkey oops i meant durvasa, you can't judge yao's rebounds from his agility or slowness. He is tall and he could average at least 10 rebounds per game. But you should see van gundy's style maybe where he positions his players, etc. I mean, yao is still leading the rockets with rebounds doesn't he? If it was Yao being a bad rebounder, then why doesn't anyone else in the rockets average a high number of rebounds or even average higher rebounds than he does?
i think ppl keep expecting yao to be a domnating center like shaq... that's never happening, though i hope to see yao get a little more aggressive. second of all, if you look at the #s he puts up for the min. he plays he's not doing bad at all, of course, he has alot to work on as far as defensive and staying out of foul trouble and committing meaningless fouls. i think potentially we can see a 20+/10+ guy that is a defensive force on the inside by altering alot of ppl's shots. last, just being tall doesnt mean you should naturally dominate, i mean, if that's true, bradley, murizan (sp?) and bol should've taken alot more heat... name 1 7'5+ player that can do what Yao does. For a 7'6 guy he's very agile alreayd (which isnt saying much if you compare him to the likes of Amare), but you can't compare apples to oranges.
Yao should be averaging about 10 rebounds even though he plays a short peiod of time. He should really put up 12 rebounds a game. I think one good reason and i might be wrong so correct me, is that when i watch the rockets, a lot of people go for the rebounds on our team. There are like 3 guys who will chase the board at the same time, and so maybe yao only goes for certain rebounds. With no other good rebounders though, we have to have yao be at his best, rebounds is a big factor in our basketball games.

Our best rebounders, Weatherspoon and Mutombo, are bench players. In the starting lineup, Yao is the best rebounder we have.
Yea Mutombo is our best rebound. He Averages 4.2rbp while playing 13.4 minutes per game. If yao could rebound at this rate he would pull around 10 per game. Hopefully he can get to this level.
I too have to disagree on it. What a stupid thing to say. If you guys watched the Rockets VS Wolves game they did a stat thing for past centers who were over 7 feet tall and Yao's stat beat them all in points and rebounds. Yes, he is slow but come on, bigger players are always slower. His stats are good, as long he's doing what he does best and not getting into foul troubles earlier I wouldn't complain. He's the only center that ShaQ respects.
