<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Here are a few trade targets Thomas may explore: Antoine Walker: He is readily available because his $14.6 million contract comes off the books this summer. Thomas loves everything about Walker - he is a big forward who can shoot three-pointers and handle the ball. It doesn't hurt that Walker is from Chicago, Thomas' hometown, either. Thomas would not hesitate to exchange Tim Thomas for Walker but Atlanta has little interest because Thomas still has one year left on his deal. The Knicks have a better chance of signing Walker to the mid-level exception this summer. Donyell Marshall: The Raptors' forward is another player who can stretch a defense. He's also in the last year of his deal and earning a reasonable $5 million, which matches up perfectly with Kurt Thomas. Toronto is insisting that Jalen Rose be included in the trade, which is exactly the type of deal the Knicks claim they are trying to avoid. Darius Miles: Thomas has coveted him in the past. Portland wants to deal Miles, who is still owed $40 million after this season and who recently got into a screaming match with coach Maurice Cheeks. The Knicks don't need this problem. Miles' teammate, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who is in the final year of his contract, would make more sense. Ron Artest: Indiana GM Larry Bird is telling potential suitors that Artest is off limits, which is somehow hard to believe.Thomas and Knick assistants Mark Aguirre and George Glymph all have first-hand experience dealing with Artest from their days on the Pacers' bench, so the Knicks know what they're getting into. Latrell Sprewell: Dolan's least favorite player would actually make a lot of sense. The Timberwolves are trying to trade him, he's in the last year of his contract and he would give the Knicks much-needed toughness and experience. </div> Source
Wow, who wants Antonie Walker here? Antoine Walker is far from a franchise savior and we need to stay away from him. We already have player who already take many shots. Between Marbury, Crawford and Walker, there will not be enough shots to go around. Walker takes too many ill-advised shots and although he is a pretty good passer, it is overshadowed by his selfishness. Walker is also not at all known for his defense. Not a great defender at all which is something we don?t really want especially considering Walker needs to take thousands of shots to be effective. He also spends too much time on the perimeter to be a threat from the low post where he can be extremely effective. He is a good rebounder and despite this is a decent player. Of course he is better than Tim Thomas I would trade him any day for Tim Thomas but let?s stay on the realistic side. Who would trade for Tim Thomas much less if it?s straight up unless he is in his final year of his contract. The only reason why I would want Walker is because he is in his final year saves us 14 million, and he is better than Tim Thomas. Hopefully he can sign with us for the MLE and maybe we can help him produce and reach his potential. That?s pretty decent for the MLE, if it?s not working out we can easily get rid of him. Alright we have explored this option. I would love to see my boy Marshall rocking an orange and blue uniform but, that Rose thing is really killing me. Rose can spread the floor for us and can rebound just as well as Kurt Thomas, and although his defense is not like him he can still do a decent job. He also has a nice little post game. He is a great player that I would want NY to have and on top of that, his contract expires! I can?t see a better deal for this team. Jalen Rose though is what is making me have second thoughts on the deal. He is a good player and can give us some production with all the injuries but, his contract shows he is overpaid. Maybe a trade will shake this team up and provide us with the necessary wins we need. You also have to think about what this would do to the development of Trevor Ariza. He is just like Penny Hardaway in versatility so maybe it wont be as bad. I do not want this team to be in the lottery so I would take his contract not for hopes to go into the playoffs, but advance as well. He is an experienced veteran and could provide us with that in the playoffs. This is an interesting trade. Will this trade end up shooting us in the foot in the future? Darius Miles, NO. He is an athletic young swingman that doesn?t reflect your ideal attitude. He is not a great fit for the team. Maybe on a fast break or something but other than that not really a good fit. The team can run but it doesn?t and Miles thrives in transition and basically nothing else. Forget about his shooting! I think our most important priority are players who can score on the perimeter. On top of that, the man is making 40 million on a contract he just signed on the off season. I?d rather have Rose! Abdur-Rahim will give us a real scoring threat down low and can possibly teach Sweetney a thing or two. What really makes me very interested in him is he is in the last year of his contract and will really help us financially and right now so it is kind of like a win/win situation for us. He also does not want to be in Portland anymore with Randolph taking him out of his natural position. Who can we deal to Portland that will make both sides happy? That is the only question that I have. Ron Artest. I would love for a New York native to come back home and play for his team in MSG. Artest will give us scoring and also what we really need DEFENSE!!! That would be a great move for us if we can snag Artest from Indiana. He is a top 5 player in the league so we will have to probably make a huge blockbuster to get him, possibly with many of our young players. I don?t like giving away them so there is probably no way in getting Artest without giving Ariza and/or Sweetney. I would rather keep them for Artest. I am even willing to put up with Artest?s antics. I just don?t want to get rid of our young guys. If we get back Latrell Sprewell not only would we get back leadership and experience, we will get a fan favorite, one of my favorite Knicks, and we will probably be that much better simply because of his presence. The Graden would be rocking on the regular and Sprewell along with Marbury would keep the garden on its feet even during halftime! This is also good for us financially as we would save 14 million in cap as well so it goes both ways for us. The question again is who will Minnesota want? I also don?t think Dolan is cool with Sprewell so I doubt that the trade will take place. It?s a nice dream kind of trade for us if it ever went down. The Knicks need a trade this season in my honest opinion. I am a bit impatient but, this season would seriously become a failure if we did not make the playoffs. Maybe we don?t need one of those blockbuster trade with all the media gassing stuff up, but as I said a numerous time a trade that can simply get us over the hump and not prove to be costly I think will definitely do us some good not only as a franchise, but for the fans on the outside looking in.
I hope we do try to get Marshall or Artest or Spreewell, I would even give up Sweetney, not Ariza but Sweetney he is great trade bait with his great playing, although he is the Defense of our future, I wanna see the Knicks Win In the Coming 1-2 years and not 4-5. I dunno maybe im just tired of no NY Teams winning
I would never give up Sweets for anybody on that list not named Ron Artest. If the Pacers are willing to give up Artest and a big for Sweetney & one of the Knicks big contracts, I would probably do it. Artest will easily become the Knicks all-around best player, next year cause of his impact on defensive end. And that would give the Knicks two legitimate all-star caliber players to work with(Artest & Marbury). If a move like that was made, I would probably put Crawford and Tim Thomas on the trade block this offseason cause Crawford wouldnt be needed as much. And can turn into nice piece of trade bait, to get a solid bigman return. I know giving up Sweetney will be extremely hard in todays day in age, getting a nice young big is so rare. But Artest is probably a top 15-20, all-around player in this league, imo.
