seriously...we are just too inconsistant of a team to bother making moves for a playoff push. it would be a mistake to hang onto donyell and hurt out chances at getting more draft picks, or budding players, and set back rebuilding just in order to make the playoffs. especially when winning the atlantic isnt even much of an "accomplishment" in the first place. although we've shown signs of being a pretty good team, since we've beaten some pretty good teams...there is a real lack of consistancy in that regard i think we should close up shop for the season...or at least pull the trigger on some trades and get some cap flexibility and young players and draft picks anyone else got thoughts on this? am i pushing the panic button too early?
I have to agree with you, because after the All-Star Break the Raptors have one of the toughest schedules in the Atlantic. The Raptors will have 29 games left after the break, but only 13 more home games. Also, 16 of their next 29 games are against teams with winning records. This latest spat between Alston and Mitchell isn't helping the situation either. I think the team should make a trade to take some of the attention away from the feud. There have been plenty of rumors involving Marshall, Rose, Mourning, E. Williams, and Alston. They've already pushed Bosh as the new franchise player with the Vince Carter trade. The Raptors might as well get a head start on the off-season and start pulling the trigger on one or two deals.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dj_premium_plus:</div><div class="quote_post">anyone else got thoughts on this? am i pushing the panic button too early?</div>I don't think you are man. It's a known fact that the Raptors are not going to make the playoffs. With all the contraversy surrounding the Raptors it is only logical to make our push for a good offseason right now. We absolutely HAVE to get rid of Marshall. We all know that he won't be signing back with the Raptors, we have to move quickly to move him or else we won't get nothing.
I also agree. Anyone who thinks the Raps should make a push for the playoffs is just kidding themselves. At the rate we're going, we most definitely would NOT make the playoffs and even if we did, we'll just end up being eliminated in the first round. Like Courtvision said, we must make a trade for Marshall before the deadline hits and we also should trade Rose if the right offer comes around. Those two have been pivotal in most of our games this season so we're pretty much gonna give up on the rest of the season, but we're clearly in the rebuilding process right now and it would be in our best interest (and their's) to let them go. And for the remainder of the season, I think we should also give Pape Sow as much playing time as possible. Him, Bosh, Araujo, and Bonner should take this opportunity to gain some much needed nba experience.

Might as well start from scratch..Get rid of all the Vets on the team, Rose, Marshall, Palacio, Murray, both Williamses and just get a bunch of draft picks and draft a few more garbage players. *cough* Araujo *cough* The Raptors need to do something about their scouting staff, because aside from Stoudamire, Tmac, Bosh and Jamison (who was traded for Bitch Carter) The rest of the guys the Raps have drafted have been all busts.
I guess everyone has packed it up, no one even make game threads anymore, I guess it's becoming like making a game thread for an Atlanta Hawks game.
Oh come one guys, everyone in the division still has a chance. Stay faithfull this shows whether you are true fans or not
Wow...its bearly half of the season...You guys would have a better chance if the beef beetween Skip and the coach aint there...Alston was 4-8 today...8 shoots...come on...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting mrj18:</div><div class="quote_post">Oh come one guys, everyone in the division still has a chance. Stay faithfull this shows whether you are true fans or not </div>It's not that we ain't true Raptor fans, we just want what's best for the team in the long run. A higher draft pick is great in the long run while making a push for the playoffs would only jeopardize our chances for a good draft pick, which is not good in the long run. It's common knowledge around the league that we do not have enough talent to become a contender any time soon so the only way to solve it is through the draft (a trade won't do much since our best tradeable asset is Marshall).
I know what you're saying. It's no fun missing the post season party though. I only got one team. Whenever they're not in the playoffs, it's real tough. I'll watch it but I just wont care who wins. My heart wont be there. My Red Storm aren't doing well either. My Yankees got embarrassed, my Jets lost misreably. Tough year for me...

We have to get rid of Donyell. I don't really know about Rose, I know it would clear up alot of cap space, but do you really see anyone signing here in the off season? Niether did I!
^Yah it sucks seeing how the Raps aren't involved in all the playoff excitement, but honestly, I had very low expectations for them at the start of the season anyways so there's no sense of disappointment for me. I know it seems very negative but I actually like being surprised if we actually do make the playoffs.... it's fun being the underdog.

hey guys with a 20-31 we basically have to win two thirds (.667) of the remaining games to finish at .500 it is better to tank and get a good draft pick... what do u guys think?
Well even without tanking we'll be in the lottery, if we continue at the same pace we should get a 6th or 7th pick, we can't expect to get a worse record than Atlanta, Charlotte, New Orleans, and posibly Golden State.
This isn't a playoff team, far from it - even in the crappy east. As much as I like Donyell, we should trade him to a team trying to make a playoff run. He's worth a lot more now than he will be later. (and if we can package Rose into that deal, I wouldn't be against it either)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Hot Sauce:</div><div class="quote_post">Wow...its bearly half of the season...You guys would have a better chance if the beef beetween Skip and the coach aint there...Alston was 4-8 today...8 shoots...come on...</div> barely half the season? its passed the halfway point. we've played 51 games...in an 82 game season, thats more then halfway....im no mathlete...but those arent exactly nuclear equasions and i cant believe im being questioned as a true fan. i certainly hope thats not the case...im as solid a raptor fan as you'll find...but it makes no sense to hold onto the guys who want out, and try to make a playoff push when its going to hurt the rebuilding process...which we are obviously in the process of. id rather see a competitive team next season...then a team go stumbling into the playoffs this season, lose donyell for nothing, and get worse position in the draft
Well I'm pretty sure that this team cannot win the next 2/3 of its games. We would probably have to at least win half of them, and I'm not sure we can confidently do that. So I think that playoffs are out of the question. I think that we should do these 1. Win some home games for the fans. 2. Trade Yell to a playoff contender, for a pick. 3. Reduce Bosh's role a bit, just to ensure he doesn't get injured. Especially with that swollen knee. 4. Give E dub a bit more playing time, let him build some chemistry with our guys. I really think he is just in a slump. 5. Rafer and Mitchell need to improve their communication skillz. 6. Check what we can get for Jalen. 7. Give Arujo at least 20 mpg, so he can get more experience. 8. Give Aaron Williams, Lammond some playing time, because Lammond seems like he is capable of being a decent role player when he dishes, doesn't be a ballhog, and jack up shots. A. Williams was a contributer a year or so back with NJ, I think if we give him some PT his value might go up.
