Big Bill said before the draft that his goal was to not only pick "football players", but to pick ones with good character. He stated he was too old to coach thugs. Looks like Spears made his case for one of good character. Apparently, he rented a sign along the interstate to thank the city / college /fans.
6 foot 4, 300+ lbs., Fast, good character, plays with a huge amount of heart..........Oh yea and he is an incredible athlete. NICE PACKAGE!
hes 6-4 and 300+ but he aint fast....he is a great prospect to play end in a 3-4 though because of his size strength combo....it was a nice addition, and he has the potential to realy make it pay off, but dont expect him to be running sideline to sideline or accumulate more than a few sacks a year....Parcells has already been on him about his weight, telling reports that he "wasnt gonna send Chubby Checker out to play end", so he wont play at 300+....hes likely best at 290, thats where Saban wanted him, and thats where Parcells wants him....
Because hes not an edge pass rusher....teams will gamble on an unproven, even unproductive edge rusher over a run stuffing DE anyday....notice the Cowboys selected Ware, who played lower level college football over Spears, because hes a speed rusher....teams are built around QBs, if you have one thats great, but if you dont, the next best thing is to have guys that can knock the other QB on his ass with regularity....thus the premiem on edge rush players....
