Ok so obviosly all the Cavs and most NBA fans can agree that the Cavs are for real but to make the move from a contender to a serious threat for the title the Cavs are going to have to make a few moves in the offseason. Redd looks like a definite possibility. Z and JMac are free agents. We still have a logjam at the sg/sf position especially if we get Redd. What would you do? Who would you go after and who would you be willing to give up? Obviously being a NE Ohio resisdent and OSU alumni, I want Redd and would give up Jackson if need be. Drop Diop, Wagner, Harris on some team see if we can get a 2 round pick or something. Definately sign Z. Maybe sign Jmac. What you Cavs fans think? Lets get this cavs forum running
This is actually very easy. I'd definitely re-sign Z this offseason to a long-term contract. I'd bring McInnis back to about a 2 or 3 year deal. I'd drop Diop and Wagner for sure, and then try and sing Redd or Allen. The main thing that we need to think about doing this offseason, is bringing Z back and getting a guard that can shoot the rock...
GM for a day would be great. The first thing I would do is have a Youth Appreciation Day. Donating tickets to the local Cleveland youth groups to come watch LeBron and the Cavs play. I'd make every player stay until each kid got the autographs they wanted from the players they idolize. I'd have former Cleveland stars give tours around the stadium and say some encouraging words to the young fans and teach them some history of Cav basketball. Mark Price, Ron Harper, Brad Daugherty, Larry Nance, and of course World B. Free would be among a select few. On to business. The first priority would be to lock Big Z to the 3 year deal he wants. I'd offer him Brad Miller type money around $7.5M to $8M a year. To get the deal I want done, I'd offer Big Z a job in the organization once his NBA career comes to an end. He would make a great big man coach, because Big Z has great footwork and moves around the basket. Priority number two would be getting Michael Redd in a Cavs uniform. A sign and trade would be the likely scenario and packaging Luke Jackson wouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure why the Cavs are reluctant to give him up right now, especially since they are winning without him. I'd try to hold onto Varejao for insurance, just in case Drew Gooden plays hardball when he becomes a free agent the following year. With Ilgauskas and Redd aboard, signing McInnis will be easier and cheaper. If he doesn't want to be reasonable, then there are plenty of other free agent point guards available in the off-season to take his place, one I would entice is Antonio Daniels. Diop and Wagner is a tough call. I'd rather not just let them walk, instead I would try to get one or two sign and trade deals done. Wagner is still a capable scorer in the league, he just needs to find a way to stay healthy. I'd be kicking myself as GM if he signed with another team and averaged 15 points off the bench and I got nothing back for that. Diop is still young, and he's a decent shotblocker. A team like the Raptors could use Diop and Wagner, so maybe ship them over for another banger inside with playoff experience like Aaron Williams.
They definately need to re-sign Z, and get Redd. They could let JMac go if they had to and signing him should be second priority to Z and Redd. They could drop Diop and Wagner, although Diop has shown a bit of promise in the 1 game he went on recently (although it was against Atlanta) and Wagner can shoot, although I guess Redd and Pavlovic could handle that.
I was thinking about this the other day. Assuming we can't deal for Redd now, do we trade for Ray Allen for this season, and let him go if we can get Redd in the offseason? I love both of their games, but Redd's age makes him a must have.

I heard the cavs are prepared to offer around 10M the first year of a 3 year 34Million dollar contract. 7.5 might fall a little short. Obviously anyone would try to sign Redd.
