<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trip:</div><div class="quote_post">If you win the MVP based on entertainment values in the Rookie Game, then Josh Smith should have won it. His alley-oop dunks were far more entertaining than Melo's jumpers and simple dunks. Scoring and home crowd is what counts. The whole city of Denver probably wanted to see Melo win it, and the NBA gave them their wishes. Melo scored the most points, although not entertaingly, but his points and home-crowd advantage were all it took to get the MVP award. I'm not saying Bosh didn't deserve it, but the NBA is a business.</div>
I thought so too, but ultimately they got blown out at the end and lost so, I they couldn't have gotten the MVP. It would have been much harder for the rookies. Iggy, Smith, Deng, Allen, and A.J. Toughie.

ben gordons behind the back on lebron and iggys behind the back travel were probably the 2 nicest non dunk plays

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting mrj18:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes you have to entertain the crowd. It is an all-star game, not the playoffs or any other kind of game. The only reason why this was made is for entertainment purposes! Nuff said.</div>You have to entertain I don't doubt that. But to say that because one was more entertaining than the other he won the MVP? C'mon now. Can you see the cracks in that statement??? I can name you the past MVP winners of the Rookie/Sophomore all-star game and I can assure you that they did not win it "just because they were more entertaining than the rest". Puuuuhhhllleeeaasssseee....

I think their performance in the game has a lot to do with winning the MVP. Yes it is an allstar game but you don't throw stats out of the window just because one is more entertaining than the other.

Can you disagree with the fact that BECAUSE Melo was in Denver, he had the advantage in winning the MVP award over Bosh? It's in front of everyone else's eyes but yours.

Yeah that is a big part. It's an All-Star game!!! If it were a regualr one, than it would be a big argument but, it wasn't an all-star game. Please do give me some past MVP winners who were not entertaining. That's the whole reason it was made!

Some stats you throw out the window. As og pointed out, not many people look at the rebounds in the game. Entertainment is a huge factor in determining a winner.

Last year, Shaq won the ASG MVP without really entertaining anyone. He just scored the most points.

^Well, it is more of personal opinion. I thought Shaq was really entertaining and obviously everyone else thought so and he won the MVP.

Well you guys are Raptor fans. You see things differently than I do. I'm sure some Nugget fans agree with me as well. He did have an advantage in wining because he was in Denver, but if he was anywhere else (other than Toronto) I think would have had a good chance of wining it over Bosh too.

Can you name me one MVP out of any all star game (not just the rookie/sophomore) that won soley on entertainment value?

Well, Elton Brand had a pretty good game. All of there stats were pretty identical but the thing that seperated it at the end was the end came down to overall game. I know I said rebounding is somewhat discounted however, when you have 21 rebounds it is taken into recognition. Bosh had 11 rebounds Brand had 21. Wally completely lit it up (more than Korver) and finished with the most points. Plus I think he got some more sympathy because he was injuried.

Yeah, but when stats are so close, you have to do.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Can you name me one MVP out of any all star game (not just the rookie/sophomore) that won soley on entertainment value?</div>
No one solely on entertainment but, a combination of that and stats. Melo had a more diverse game.

So if the game was in any other place Bosh would have automatically won hands down?

Stas are a big part of the game. Wally had the better stats too with 27 points and in addition to that he was probably sypathy was taken into consideration.

They were entertaining. Watching Wally shoot the lights out! Watching Brand being an absolute beast on the boards is very entertaining. No the argument wasn't garbage now because they were entertaining.

Yeah, but their stats were all pretty good. It was close and I'm sure the fact he entertained more was taken into consideration. I even heard an announcer say you would have never knew Bosh was playing so long.

Yeah but his entertainment was factored into the equation as well. Man of Bosh's points in fact I think just about all of them were in the paint. A good amount of them were easy shots and many were handed to him as well.

god...the whole argument of "variety of shots" is so lame. what about the years shaq won it....most of his points came in the paint. same with the year KG won it. i think he took like 3 jumpers that year

so what if boshs points were in the paint!? ALL of shaqs poins come in the paint. bosh is a power forward, melo is a small forward...do we have to get into how different positions tend to take different shots? god man...you dont think bosh had a good enough game...most of us do. lets leave it at that

How does grabbing rebounds entertain the crowd? How does shooting mid range jumpers entertain? Maybe to you but I'm sure to the average fan it does not. And you forgot to mention the Big Z who also took the MVP as well. These players by NBA standards are not entertaining as a Melo, Lebron, Kobe, JRich.

The way they did it is what seperated from Bosh. KG left everyone in the dust with his stats. No one came close to him. Shaq is very entertaining and the way he does everything makes him fun to watch.

He didn't have a very entertaining game whether they play the position or not. Shaq's moves are fun to watch and what he does on the court is very entertaining. Watching how big he is and yet so quick is very entertaining at least to me and everyone else at the all-star game. I said he had a good game numeous times. Where do you get that idea?

I said, you have to entertain the crowd. I also said stats are improtant, and I also said Wally got the award probably because that was factored in too. What's so hard to understand.

Well grabbing 21 rebounds is entertaining. Shooting the lights out and getting 27 points is entertaining too. Big Z had the best overall game and no one else was overly entertaining. There was no Jrich, Melo, Kobe or LBJ in that asg.

Entertainment is important in the asg. Exactly he was so unentertaining to that specific commentator, that he didn't even know he was there.

The rook'soph MVP doesn't mean much in my opinion anyway. Its basically who can put up the most points without trying. IMO Bosh could have had 20 rebs with that many missed jumpers, so his other stats don't really matter. In that game only points made a difference, so Melo deserved it.

at the end of the day...they both deserved it, but melo was in his hometown so give it to him.

just because YOU didnt think he had a very entertaining game doesnt make him any less deserving.
