I too would have wished Barrett could be backing up Sura, but I think he's still a bit raw. He's very undersized- so gives him a disadvantage as a defender, he has yet to have developed a shot, and he just tries to do too much. I don't really think too much of the Strickland deal cause it's only temporary, so I'm pretty sure he won't be staying here for more than two years. I'm pretty hopeful about the draft and Spanoulis and Badiane so hopefully Houston becomes a much more athletic team.

well even though he is a bit small i think that comes at an advantage too cause of his quickness and i dont know if another 2 years is gonna help strickland lol =x

I was hoping that Strickland would be gone before this season is up. I don't want him hanging around the bench next season in his wheel chair courtesy of the old nursing home.

But seriously, he will be absolutely useless next season. His old age is showing now, and it will just get worse.

Actually, I just checked, I think his contract is only for a year. Good thing too, I didn't want another Charlie Ward situation where Ward's contract runs for three years.

I think Rod is a huge plus for you. Yeah he's old, out of shape and everything, but you wouldn't believe the amount of experience he brings to the game!! He was around for a while has been to the playoffs, he was the definition of a solid point guard back in the day! He will do incredible things to Barrett and in addition he provides leadership and veteran leadership to the Rockets. That really goes a long way. So many times we forget about the intangibles, but every successful team has them. I don't see what the problem is, all you are doing is adding some valuable depth without even giving up anything. Strickland is a plus and you basically signed him for free. I think it was a great move by Houston.

Well we have all those things you describe in Charlie Ward. Sure Ward has never been at an all-star level like Strickland has in the past, but Ward's esperience as a point guard is all we need to help the younger players. Ward could always be either a pure point guard or a shooting one.

I don't like the thoguht of Strickland because he's a waste on the roster and although he may have the league minimum, he eats up Barrett's playing time. If Rod were on the coaching staff like Ewing, then I hav no complaints, but since Barrett has been limited, I don't like him being there. We have Ward for another 3 years, he can take up that mentor role.

If we really wanted strickland to give guidance we could of just made him an assistant coach, because when hes on the court hes hurting us.

I don't know if anyone else remembers, but I remember that durvasa or Sniper said it in a thread that the Rockets' production was actually better when Rod was on the floor, according to 82games.com. If that really is the case, maybe Rod isn't hurting us after all. Another thing is our team is trying to do big things this season, and playing an inexperienced rookie in the playoffs won't help.

According to that sight we would be best with Brandin Knight on the floor, and that Yao Ming barely helps us.

The +/- stats at 82games.com need to be interpreted in context.

While Strickland has a relatively high +/- rating (+7.3), he signed with the team just before our hot streak and wasn't here while the team was slumping. So, I'd say his rating is inflated. Obviously, Brandon Knight only played a few minutes with the Rockets, so you can't take his +/- ratings seriously.

I do think Yao's relatively low +/- rating is significant, however. But it says more about how good Mutombo has been off the bench than how bad Yao has been as a starter. Mutombo greatly improves our interior defense and rebounding and our turnovers aren't as high, which more than offsets the decline in scoring. On a per-minute basis, I would have to say that Mutombo has been the Rocket's best center this season. Here are their per-40 minute numbers:

    Yao: 23 points, 10.7 rebounds, .9 assists, 3.5 turnovers, 2.3 blocks
    Mutombo: 11.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, .3 assists, 1.6 turnovers, 3.2 blocks

Yao might have better stats but somehow the Rockets as a team play better with Mutombo on the floor.

I dont like the idea of Strickland simply adding veteran leadership and experience when we were already one of the oldest teams.

im nto hating on stricklands skills or his resume.... im just simply stating if that we really needed him, i mean he can add experience sure but what is barrett gonna do with all that experience when he doesnt get enough playing time to be a more productive PG
