vince carter says he "misses toronto"

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...orts/Basketball

Ok. So I hated him for leaving. Now I actually feel bad for the guy. I wish the crowds in the ACC didn't make him feel even worse by booing him everytime his NAME is mentioned. So I have to say it...

I kinda wish he was back in TO.

I mean, you can't deny that he helped Toronto so much. If we never had VC, there would probably be no Canadian team in the NBA anymore. [IMG] All I'm saying is I think that everyone should just leave the guy alone. He's pestered like every single day about the trade.

Nobody ever questioned the fact that Vince was a class act person in a league full of jerks and thugs. It's Vince Carter the player we came to conflict with.

"They took the chance on me, so to speak, and felt I had a lot to offer, a lot to bring to the table, so I didn't want to let them down," he said.

And you let the Raptors down.

    Wish him well.

Honestly I wish we could stop with these Vince Carter threads but when he keeps talking to the media its hard to do. He needs to just focus on his career in NJ and forget about Toronto. His legacy will always be that of the person who gave up on the Raptors. Just like Damon Stoudemires and Tracy Mcgrady's. He can't have it any other way than that because he left on the worst terms possible.

Just to keep the forum orgnized, every news or quotes that is related to Vince Carter, or any thoughts that may pop up in someone's mind about Vince should be posted in here.

Opinions and discussions regarding Vince are open and acceptable in here, as long as they don't violate the JBB Guidlines.

of course the fans in toronto are going to boo him...and so do i. he turned his back on us. i say screw him for that. he's a typical spoiled over paid athelte. if 100$ cant motivate you to play your ass off night in, and night out...ill boo you. its disgusting

i just dont get why this is in the raptors forum anyways? he's not a raptor anymore...hasnt been so for quite some time. we shouldnt even be talking about him.

lets start living in the future...VC is the passed.

the only time vince should be discussed in here (imo) from now on...is on apr15th when vince comes back to town.

^The threads keep on popping up on a weekly basis. Once they die down (which should be after this game) I will take this off the sticky basis.

Ok, the purpose of this thread is not to talk about Vince Carter, rather it is here to collect all the threads and posts that will eventually pop up about the trade, or Vince says something about the Raps, ... etc.

Anyhow, it's not that most of the fans who're gon' boo Vince are haters or such. In fact, if you were around here long enough you'd know that I was one of the biggest Vince supporters on this board, and so was dj_premium_plus. It's just that how it ended, and the simple fact that he didn't give it his all (Doesn't matter, offseason or during the season) while getting paid the Max contract and getting big time love from the fans is unforgetable in view.
    At least for now.

Jalen Rose says to Retire Vince's number: Article

Quote:

Jalen Rose yesterday defended remarks he made Tuesday night in New Jersey that ex-Raptor Vince Carter's jersey should be retired in Toronto.

Rose made the comment during a television interview following the Raptors' 100-82 win over the Nets, the first time Carter faced his former team since he was traded.

During the interview, Carter approached Rose and hugged him, prompting Rose's suggestion.

Yesterday, he wasn't backing down. Rose said some players aren't given their due for their contributions.

"There's really no rhyme nor reason as to why a number gets retired. But it should be based on (a player's) impact on a franchise," Rose said yesterday
Source

Jalen Rose....never a dull moment around this guy.

[IMG] Vince Carter did help TO but he didn't try his best here and that's why his number shouldn't be retired.

If he did play to the hardest of his abilities I would have agreed with that.

I don't see why some people are getting angry about their being a Vince thread, he's not one our team anymore, but has been the biggest impact player on the franchise, and been here for a few years, so you can't just expect him to be forgotten or not talked about right away.

I don't see why people are opposed to him getting his jersey retired. Sure he didn't give it his all this season (I think he played well last year), but this guy had such a huge impact on this franchise, I can't even imagine where this team would be without him. Who knows if we would even have a team?

Yes, but it is debatable, I'm not sure whether it should be, I mean you can make cases with his impact on the franchise and team, but was the impact enough to give him that honour?

I'm pretty surprised by his play lately though, 8.5 FT attempts per game in 13 games in February whey he averaged 30 PPG, and then 14 FT attempts and 32-8-7 against Philly last night.

^I don't see why we should retire his number either. Usually the people that get their jersey retired are ones that A) Win championships with the team and [IMG] Stayed with the team through thick and thin and usually leave on a good note. He has done neither.

I am not surprised by his play as of late. I was just watching the 76er's game last night and he was looking like the Vince Carter from the playoff series against Philly ironically. He was just clutch throughout the whole game and he moves to the basket were just unstoppable. He looks like he has found that fire again and I would only hope for the Nets sake that it stays there.

The retiring a jersey thing is totally messed up.

The Jazz retire Jeff Hornaceks jersey, and he average like around 15 PPG There through 3-4 years, and they dont retire Adrian Dantleys jersey who averaged like 29 PPG with them with numerous all star appearances. These things puzzle me at times.

I would see how Vince does in the future, withing the next few years, to see the player he is during his career, and compare to his Raptors years. As of now, I'm all for it. Sure he might have given up on the team in his last Raptor days, but he had his reasons. The Franchise didn't know what direction they were going in, and they made some commitments to VC prior to all the management change. Finally at the age of 28, and at his prime, they tell Vince that they're in a rebuilding process. Wouldn't you want out, especially when the President of the MLSE betrays you? The scenerio was that he was in a rebuilding team after spending 5,6 years with the same team that was commited to winning a championship. He put the Raps on the map, and without him, they wouldn't have been a the franchise they are today.

Some players are retired based on impact on the franchise though, which would be why Vince could be retired because he was the biggest impact player on the franchise, and out first superstar player.
