<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A day before making the worst trade in franchise history, Raptor general manager Rob Babcock refused an offer from Vince Carter to change the all-star's playing time in an effort to rejuvenate both Carter and the free-falling team, multiple sources have told the Star. Carter first made the proposal to coach Sam Mitchell in a conversation Dec.16 in Indiana, suggesting he play more with point guard Milt Palacio than with starter Rafer Alston, a move Carter says Mitchell fully endorsed. Several sources contend Mitchell took the information to Babcock that night, imploring him to hold back on any Carter trade to see if the move worked but the general manager resisted. A day later, Babcock traded Carter to the New Jersey Nets for Eric Williams, Aaron Williams, Alonzo Mourning ? none of whom had any significant impact on the Raptors ? and two future first-round draft picks. "I sat down with (assistant coach) Jim Todd and Sam and talked about it," Carter told the Newark Star-Ledger. "After that day, I was traded. I don't know what happened after that. But I made the offer."</div> GM Kissed Off Vince Carter's Plan I like how Doug Smith say's "the worst trade in franchise history".
Yea, that was retarded, we did have his Bird rights, at least I think we did, so that was definately bad, maybe worse. If Philly hadn't done good though, this trade could be better, but a 16th pick, and likely something like a 20th pick next year isn't too pleasing. EDIT: Actually maybe we didn't have his bird rights because he was drafted before the new CBA was made, but still...

Well, why can't we whine? He DID screw us over..... and with a player of Vince's magnitude, (with the Nets now anyway), don't you think that it's something worth mentioning that if he actually put some balls into his work we'd be heading in at least a different direction? I love the Raptors, and I probably always will. It's always frustrating losing all of the time and patiently waiting for Vince to return from his injuries. Vince could have easily made the difference, but chose not to and decided to slack off. Players who put no effort to the team (especially if you're paid over 10 million bucks), in my opinion, are worse than trash. You have guys like Bonner or Sow who make less than a fraction of what you make busting their tails for the team while you just go around shooting pointless fadaway jumpers. As for the little rhyme there, it completely blew ass.

Please get back on topic and stop the nonsense... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A less rhetorical question: What have the Nets learned from Carter in the past four months? "That he has as big a heart as anyone in this league," said teammate Clifford Robinson. "That the ability they thought was diminished by injuries or whatever is still there, and better than ever. That his desire to play the game was re-energized with the move. "It's funny, but sometimes people overlook that you can get your passion for the game back. Sometimes change is good. And obviously it was a good change, for Vince and the Nets. It saved our year." It is one of the great ironies of the season, that someone so maligned for lacking heart has given the Nets a vigorous heartbeat, and carried them into the first round of the 2005 NBA playoffs. Game 1 between the Nets and Mourning's Miami Heat is this afternoon. Not only was the trade with Toronto astonishingly one-sided, it was one of those watershed moments that a franchise has only once in a decade -- so momentous that even if the Nets don't get out of the first round, they have a foundation that only a star such as Carter can provide. </div> http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?...18300315321.xml http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2005...d=2044912&num=0
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post">Please get back on topic and stop the nonsense... </div>Aww you're no fun, I was actually getting a good laugh from all the nonsense. I always find it funny (and very lame) when people write a serious rap in a message board. Stunt101, your rhymes were hilarious though ......... But back to the topic...... I tried to stay away from all the VC talk but I can't help it anymore. The thing about Vince that gets to me isn't just him dogging it this season or his statement about not giving it his all in TO (it wasn't a surprise when I heard it, so it didn't bother me), it was the statement he made just after he got traded to NJ where he promised to play more aggressively, attack the bucket more often, and he just seemed so passionate. It gets to me because he was being criticized for those things (lacking heart, avoiding contact, questionable effort, etc) for years now and only when he gets traded he finally decides to change his ways. I find it very hard to respect a guy who would act this way, no matter what he has done for our franchise in the past.
http://www.mikegallay.com/returnofvince.html What do you think?? it's a pretty good read. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">According to the schedule, there are five games left for the Raptors in this debacle of a season. In reality, there is only one. Friday night, April 15th, when Vince Carter returns to Toronto. And for the first time in weeks, it gives Raptor fans a reason to watch our team play: so we can cheer against Vince. The wounds that Carter caused when he left are still open, still fresh. He meant too much for us to simply forget him.</div> oh and i found another good one of vc on his times with the raps: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Basketball/NBA/P...26/1013396.html <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"One time, when we brought all the (Nets) together (for a team cheer) and I was supposed to say, 'Nets on three,' I accidentally said, 'Raptors on three,' " Carter said. ^lol he prolly will be forever. itll haunt him. lmao. he always did say he was a raptor for life when he was with TO.
