How much success can one city endure? You have the back-to-back Superbowl winners, the defending World Series Champs (I will miss the 1918 chants), and now Boston College has become a college basketball powerhouse moving up to the #3 ranking spot. As Celtic fans do you embrace the success of the other Boston teams? Or does this put even more pressure on the great Celtic franchise to step up and become an elite team again? How many hangovers have you had over the last year? :beerchug:
^Lucky Boston, that World Series is still killing me! NY was lucky to a certain extent back in the 90's.
Well, its kind of a pain, all this money I'm spending on championship T-shirts. Plus, trying to find room for them in my closet. Oh, its torture... I think that the Patriots and Red Sox success is good and bad for the Celtics. It's only going to raise expectations and force the team to try and be competitive, which is good. However, people around here are becoming a bit spoiled and will only turn out if they can realistically expect a championship. They'll show up for the playoffs, but not before. Since its been rebuilding since the mid-90's, I think there is a lack of patience with the Celtics now. With Tony Allen, Al Jefferson and the rest of the young guys they're finally getting it right and I'm fearful that in the rush to be a contender, they'll do something stupid and ruin the solid foundation, which is bad. Personally, I couldn't care less about BC and I think that goes for a large section of Massachusetts. There are literally hundreds of colleges in MA and if you didn't go to BC then you don't care about it (and its worse if you went to BU like me. If I want Big East basketball I go to PC). They're far from the only game in town, so unless they have great success, people don't really keep track of how their doing. A couple years ago they were accusations of BC football players gambling and it barely created a ripple off-campus, but I assume that at a school like Michigan or Georgia, with their rabid following, it would have been a huge scandal. This isn't really a college sports town. It could be that for a long time BC wasn't that good, or like I said, people are only loyal to the school they went to, but BC is only now becoming a story around here. We mostly concentrate on the pro teams.

I know hagrid is a Red Sox fan, and a huge one at that, so "embrace" isn't the word for it in his case. As for the success of the Pats, I'm pretty sure that hagrid is a Raiders fan (Who knows?), so I'm not sure about that.<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Or does this put even more pressure on the great Celtic franchise to step up and become an elite team again?</div>That's also a "yes" answer. Pressure is an understatement, though. The city of Boston, and all of New England for that matter, can't seem to respect the Celtics lately. I listen to WEEI all the time. It's a sports radio station that broadcasts out of Boston, and honestly, now that Basketball is the only thing going on, they still never talk Celtics basketball. It's always Red Sox news, Patriots news, an occasional hockey discussion, and even sometimes BC basketball/football. The people of New England will not give any attention to the Celtics unless they become an elite team again.
As indicated, I'm happy that Pats fans have something to party over but I'm not a Pats fans by any means. Red Sox....well, consider me still celebrating.
shape I wish Id been here during the ALCS to hear all your gaurentees "the yankees will win. the yankees will win. the yankees will win" man that wouldve been sweet But seriously at least among the more hardernosed fans who have been following all the teams over the last 20 years when nobody won anything theres an increased sense of satisfaction knowing we paid are dues and now finally get to enjoy the good life

It's just a tease, they will choke like always, the Yankees are too, good to lose 4 straight etc. etc. And then you would doubt them in the World Series and give them no chance against the Cards. Don't worry though we can trash talk all season long and I'll take the first shot at the Redsox. Yankees win opening day and make a statement with A-Rod leading the way.
