League sources tell ESPN.com that the Bucks beat the 3 p.m. ET Thursday trading deadline by agreeing to send Van Horn to Dallas for Calvin Booth, the expiring contract of Alan Henderson and minimal cash considerations.

Dallas, meanwhile, is hoping that Van Horn can serve as a productive backup to All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki. Van Horn has struggled this season, but Dallas is hoping he'll benefit from the reduced expectations of a backup role and fill the biggest void on the Mavericks' roster -- depth behind Nowitzki.

ha.. i hate him too, but i have to think he will fit in the Mavericks offense better than he would on any other team.

Wow. Talk about your matchup problems. Not only do teams have to deal with one 7 foot perimetre player, now they have one backing him up. Holy smokes. What if they play both of them together?

    Possible lineups?

    PG- Jason Terry
    SG- Finley
    SF- Van horn?
    PF- Nowitzki
C- Dampier (When he gets healthier)
    Sixth man- Stackhouse
    Bench- Howard, Daniels, Harris

It doesn't really answer their main liability, which is defence, but when do they ever make trades for that? It does make them a freaky team to deal with though. A freakishly tall team that likes to play on the perimetre.

why??????????? this is a bad move, we're absent our best big man and now we trade away our next two best... wtf are we thinking. plus we now give the kings a fleated chance to upset us major on our home court tonight.

PLEASE i hope this report is false like the SHAQ thing.

not a bad trade. KVH should be a good backup for Dirk with his shooting ability and his size. They dont give up much for him either. Henderson isnt a huge loss and booth's contract is ridiculous. KVH's is bad too, but it ends sooner at least.

    Good trade overall.

I like the trade from a Mavericks POV, while Milwaukee is probably just gearing up for cap space to re-sign Redd. Van Horn is still a very serviceable big man and although he's not a banger, he is a Dirk Nowitzki without the handle. Playing him at small forward would be freaky.

To a NBA fan who doesn't watch the mavs every game it would seem that way but both of these players have given us something we never had before. Muscle and Heart. Henderson plays his butt off every night and is always under the basket trying to get rebounds.

This makes me sick. We lost more than two of our best big men we lost chemistry which doesn't happen very often in Dallas.

Why Alan Henderson. He was the only person on the team that dived for loose ball.
I hate KVH. Hated him on the Knicks and the Nets now hes on my favorite team.
However, him coming of the bench with Stackhouse,Harris, and Daniels will be great.
I hope Howard keeps his starting spot.

Van Horn's just gonna eat up all the cap space. They'll be a really good jump shooting team but nobody's left to crash the boards. no offensive/defensive rebs..this'd be a big problem for the Mavs.

Why? It's not like this team needs more offense. I don't understand this move. All offense, no defense, that's what he is. They don't need that. So, now this gives them yet another contract to eat up cap space with, and another all offense player to go along with the likes of Dirk, Stack, Terry, and pretty much everyone outside of Dampier.

Alan Henderson is expected to be bought out and to sign back with the Mavs.

I don't see how this is a bad move. KVH adds more depth and contract wise he is no different than Booth. While being a much better player. He will back-up Dirk and guys like Josh Howard. I fail to see the negative in this deal. When Dirk needs rest the Mavs offensively won't be missing as much as they were before.

^I think it is more the salary cap flexibility than anything else. If Mark Cuban can fit the bill, I say why not? Not a bad trade at all for the Mavs but financially they are taking on one hell of a contract.

This is exactly what i was going to say.. but you said it perfectly. When Dirk rests, even last night against the kings, did you see the trouble the Mavs were having putting the ball in the basket? Now when dirk comes off, although they will always sacrifice when he rests, Dallas now has a 6'10" multi-position player who can put the ball in the basket. I like this trade, especially if Henderson signs back with the Mavericks and Van Horn stays relatively healthy.

Salary cap space? The Dallas Mavericks? A joke anyway.

I want Henderson to come back to give the hustle plays. Van Horn is in a big slump and in his worst form in his career after the injuries this season. He is not a good post season player either. I dont want him to play more than 15 minutes a game.

Hendu never left town it appears...

It's a 48 hour waiver period [League is closed on weekends], so it will be Tuesday until he will clear waivers and after that he is a free agent and can sign with any team.
