As of today, the lakers lineup is sealed (barring any free agent signings or anyone being waived) It's bitter sweet for me personally, i wanted the lakers to improve any way they could... but i wasnt looking forward to seeing Caron go. The lakers have decent talent, including a young trio that could be really good together. Now this time next year (or even this off season coming up) we will have somewhat of 16 million in expireing contracts to trade off for some more talent, so that is a major plus. DMK
Next year, we will have about 16 mil coming off of the books Ugh, I wanted to make a deal, I just don't see this team getting far...oh well... FIRE MITCH
The tradeline came and went, and despite 35 players being traded yesterday, the Lakers were not involved in any deal to improve the team. Does it really surprise any of us Laker fans though? When was the last time Mitch Kupcake was able to pull off a mid-season deal to help out the team? There have been plenty of opportunities, but the net result has been nothing. He even backed out of a Robery Horry & Rick Fox trade for Ratliff or Reef and Terry in the 02-03 season. Those players sure would have looked nice in the Purple and Gold. Despite the ineffectiveness of Mitch Kupcake over the years he's been GM, I was willing to accept the Lakers sticking to their roster and not making a trade. I was willing to accept the Boozer deal falling through. All day long I watched trade after trader after trade go through for teams fighting for a playoff spot. Most of the big name trades happened in the Eastern Conference, with Webber and Walker. Then right before the deadline, I hear Baron Davis just got traded to the Warriors! I figured the Warriors probably gave up Dale Davis and Dunleavy, Pietrus, or their pick, which would be better than anything the Lakers could offer for B. Diddy. Then they report the Warriors traded Dale Davis and SPEEDY Claxton, are you kidding me? Speedy freakin' Claxton for Baron Davis? Not to take anything away from Speedy, but he's a solid backup at best, and with the Hornets set with Dan Dickau at PG, this trade made my blood boil even more. Not only were the Lakers not able to get an All Star PG, for a backup and expiring contracts, they lost Baron Davis to a Division rival. The perennial doormats, Warriors & Clippers, in the Pacific Division, have now become a threat to a lackluster Laker team. As Mitch Kupcake sits on his hands teams in the Pacific Divison are reloading and landing more talent than the Lakers. This has to be the last straw for Kupcake. Are you going to tell me the Lakers couldn't put a better deal together to land B. Diddy? The Lakers could offer the expiring contracts with Vlade and George, young talent with Walton, Cook, or Sasha, and at worst we might have traded Caron Butler to land an All-Star PG. Landing Baron Davis would have been a tremendous upgrade at PG, and with Chucky Atkins going to the bench it gives the Lakers a reliable scorer, and would be insurance in case B. Diddy got injured. The Lakers are struggling as it is this year trying to make the playoffs. Next year is going to be worse for the team. Next year the Suns will still be great, the Kings will be a better defensive team, with younger players and more depth, the Clippers were turning the corner and playing better than the Lakers until they got hit with injuries, but if they stay healthy they can pass up the Lakers, and now the Warriors with J-Rich, Murphy, Dunleavy, and B. Diddy will also push the Lakers in the division. Thanks again Mitch for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I can't wait for all the deals you screw up over the summer.
You said it... Kupcake sucks! Even with strawberries! I would have liked to see the Lakers get a Power Forward, and move Odom over to the other Foward. But that's just me. I'm glad Caron got to stay. Dr. Buss should get a GM over the summer who can make things happen. Or just save the salary and let Kobe be the GM.
I seriously think Kobe could be a better GM than Mitch. Kobe knows first hand what this team needs, Mitch on the other hand...settles for averageness...not the GM I want running the Lakers.

The only bright spot is that if the reports about Dr. Buss demanding a trade were true, then you gotta think Mitch is on the hot seat now for doing nothing...
You guys wanna know where Mitch was...in Europe..SCOUTING EUROPEANS BTW: Sorry to hear about the goldfish man

If the Lakers don't make the playoffs there's an even greater chance Mitch gets dumped. What a Catch 22 for Laker fans? I have confidence in Dr. Buss, and I could see him sweeting the deal to Phil Jackson by giving him the GM/Headcoach title.

Phil as GM...I think I would like that, he knows what we need for the triangle to work...hell, I will take almost anyone over Mitch as this point...it is just disgusting seeing teams making their teams better, while we sit here..staying average.
It's funny...the greatest "Koo" of his GM career came when malone and payton came to LA....AND IT WASNT EVEN BECAUSE OF HIS GM WORK! lol thank shaq for that and the lakers as a whole.
