I think that this trade will do us better then any other trade that we got offered for Glenn Robinson. Against the Knicks he didn't know how the Sixers played or none of that and he adjusted to it. Even though he didn't know how to give Korver a proper screen for a 3 or even when almost cut off someone while they were driving, I think that if Rogers adjusts to the Sixers style of basketball, this is a HUGE asset to our run for the playoffs and for the Finals. I mean just the way I saw him meshing in with the team got me excited. I really think Rodney Rogers is one of the keys we were missing.
Rodney should be a solid player for us. Of course he'll fit in pretty well because he knows Coach Obrien's game schemes from being alongside him in Boston. Rogers is a guy who can hit the three so he'll probably get his share of minutes and will have the oppurtunity to be a good role player for this team.
He makes up for the physical presence that we lost in Williamson. He already knows the system well, and can stroke the outside shot. He will be getting around 15 minutes a game when everybody is healthy. Good pick up by the Sixers.
Rodney can still score the rock. But he takes alot of bad shots & makes alot of bad plays in big spots, so I wouldnt really trust Rodney to be on the floor in late game situations. Also when Rodney is struggling from the field you definately see a decreased effort level in the rest of his game. He doesnt play defense & doesnt give the effort on the boards when his offensive game isnt going well. For you sixer fans there will be plenty of times, where you are sitting there watching the game saying " What are you doing out there Rodney" Screaming for coach to take him out of the game. I do agree that Rodney can make up for somethings Corliss Williamson brought to the table. He is that similar inside/outside combo forward. And he has more range then Corliss. But while Rodney can score with his back to the basket, not as well as Corliss imo.
Rogers really doesn't need time to get used to this system..He knows it already...He played under O'Brien when they were in Boston. This is the same system he had implemented in Boston, so if Rogers is playing bad, you can't blame him "not knowing the system".
I think that he will be a solid contributor and his style of play will really open up the floor and spread the defence. That will allow everything else to flow nicely. He will never give superstar numbers, but if he gives us steady back up and 100% effort then he is worth keeping around.
