how funny. wasnt it just a couple days ago that the media was saying that the Kings were crazy for trading Webber for three non all stars? wasnt it just a few days ago that nearly everyone in the media (including Rosen) was saying the Kings were obviously throwing up the white flag on the season and been taken in the trade with the Sixers? Apperently Rosen has changed his mind... and how quickly he has done it too! http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/3424288 according to Rosen now, the Kings have suddenly become the winner of this trade based solely on the Kings-Sixers game. I am not saying that he is right or wrong, but I am going to say that there is no way that he could be able to judge this trade after one game. And I think I will go so far as to say this man has now made my "idiots list"... kinda like a deans list....only in reverse. He makes some valid points, but c'mon Charlie... the same old lack of substance from Webber? have you not seen the triple doubles he has posted this year? didnt you notice that he was western conference player of the year? how is that a lack of substance and how can you say that after only one game? Just my three cents, (adjusted for inflation) but maybe Crazy Charlie needs to watch a few more Kings games from earlier this season before he starts talking about Webber and his "lack of substance". I wonder how many other writers are going to suddenly see this as a "yet another great trade by Petrie" before the end of the season? I have a feeling it will be a lot more of them.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...02/25/notebook/ Marty Burns is apperently on the same band wagon here... hrm... interesting (cant really remember what he said about the trade initially however, but this piece was written on the 25th)

One game and winning by a mere two points doesn't indicate who got the best out of the trade. Philadelphia could have won by 20+ points and I would have still declared the trade as an even trade. I won't get to the reason why I think it was an even trade because that's off-topic. But basing that one game on who got the best out of the trade is complete stupidity if you ask me. We will see who gets the better out of the trade and that will be determined by the end of next granted that all six players stay on their respected new teams. And as a footnote, Philadelphia had the game one btw; they just simply collapsed in the 4th quarter like they always do. It's not like Sacramento applied very aggressive defense, it's really on the 76ers part. They just have a knack of collapsing in the 4th quarter. If they didn't fail to execute late in the game on both the offensive and defensive end, this game could have been a W for them.

And it isn't like the Kings have hadn't had a knack for playing softly after gaining a lead. Before the Webber trade, they lost something like six of seven and most of them were from late game collapses... Missed free throws... Missed (easy) shots... Turnovers... Controversial Calls... Anyway, I agree; it is ridiculous to base a trade on one game. What if miraculously, Webber's knee holds and strengthens and he regains some of his explosiveness or that Kenny Thomas gets injured, etc. The trade will have to be evaluated over the course of at least a season.

He has a great offensive game, but lets face it... he is what he is... and thats bad on defense. He has done great things for the Kings and for Sacramento, but it was time to make a move and the Sixers made it possible for them to do that. Petrie will be able to make much better moves regarding the roster in the future. and say that KT does get hurt... so what? thats still better than Webber getting hurt with that huge contract... at least this way you only have an issue with a much smaller contract.
I think we should rename this thred to "Webber Bashing Watch" ...yet another article http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...woes/index.html On his ideas that the Kings didnt get a great deal out of it and got "no salary cap relief, I guess he doesnt quite understand how salaries and trades work because all three of them have been playing better than anyone expected they would, and now Petrie has that one huge contract broken up into three smaller and more marketable pieces... but what do I know, I only write about basketball cuze I love the game, not cuze Im paid to..

The beauty of the trade for the Kings is getting a deeper team in the frontcourt, and dumping Webber's enormous contract. Looking at the contracts of KT, Skinner, and Big Nasty, they aren't outrageous at all. KT's is at $5.5M this year and ends in 2009 at $8.6M Skinner is at $4.5M this year and ends in 2006 at $5.4M (with a team option in 07) Big Nasty is at $5.5M this year and ends in 2006 at $6.5M Those are a lot easier to swallow than paying Webber $20+M for the next 3 years. If you look around the league, the going rate for a solid big man is in the $5M to $6M range anyways. KT's contract is a little longer than you would like, but it's still reasonable. The Kings are no longer held hostage by Webber's injuries.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting harbingerofdoom:</div><div class="quote_post">I think we should rename this thred to "Webber Bashing Watch"</div>Deal. As for the last article, that's what's called total garbage. Even if all you want to look at is cap relief, what's easier to trade...one HUGE contract, or three smaller ones in seperate deals?

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/3462070 nothing like starting the day out with some Webber bashing
jea and you think the media coverage of the whole CWebb trade is bad....try rooting for a NY sports team....
