In a related move, the Timberwolves activated forward Mark Madsen from the injured list.

Griffin fractured the second metacarpal bone during the first half of Thursday's 92-86 road loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. The third-year pro is averaging 7.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 21.1 minutes in 52 games this season.

Madsen underwent surgery on January 8 after breaking his left thumb against the Philadelphia 76ers a day earlier. The 6-9 veteran averaged 2.0 points and 3.1 rebounds in 31 games, including 13 starts, prior to the injury. </div>
