    Hi all.

What's the semi-circle under the ring? We don't have it in Australia and I have noticed it in NBA Live and the few games I've been able to catch over here.

It's the no charge zone. A defensive player can not draw an offensive foul in that area, even if his feet are planted. This allows players to dunk over others even if it would be an offensive foul if the no charge zone wasnt there.

    Btw

just a note about charging fouls ... there should be a rule against taking a charge on a player more than 2 inches shorter. I hat seeing a 7 foot guy like Vlade take a charge ... i takes excitement away from the game

So what stops a player from deliberately charging a dominant big man (Duncan, Garnett, Shaq, etc) and putting them out for at least the rest of the game?

You can actually still take a charge inside the half circle, it just depends on whether the offensive players begins with his back to the basket, and in the painted area. Im pretty sure thats how the rule goes.
