WHat do you guys know about UNC's Marvin Williams? Is he going to enter the draft class of 2005 or will he play another season at UNC?
If Marvin goes out he will probably be a top 5 pick, although I am not Marvin Williams so I don't know how he feels about staying another year at UNC. The Hornets, and Bobcats would all probably take a look at him.
He is not an NBA ready player. I think he would have gone higher had he skipped college than if he leaves this year. He needs to put on a couple more pounds of muscle, and work on his decision making. I say if he stays one more year, and starts next year for Jawad Williams, he could be a top 3 pick. His jumper at times is inconsistent, when he starts hot he stays hot, but when he starts cold he stays cold. *chants* One more year! One more year! One more year!
Well I heard that some people (one of them from an NBA Draft Site) rate him as a top 3 pick already...
Of all the scouts I've talked to about Marvin Williams, he's Top 5 if he leaves now. He would have to have a poor showing in work outs to change their minds. If he were to stay one more year and show consistent domination through a whole year, he'll push for the top spot in '06. Marvin Williams has come out and stated he wants to return, but, when you have a guaranteed 4 years at roughly $10 million (the average wage scale of a Top 5 selection), how many of you could say no.
I have head that he will be going back to Chapel Hill for another year. While he is projected as a top 5 pick, he has said a couple of times that he wants to return to North Carolina for another year. I think it would be a great move, win a national championship, develop a bit more of an all around NBA game and go in as the number 1 pick in 2006. But hey, things change so quickly its ridiculous, just last week i thought Andre Iguodala was number 4 for the sixers!!!
Hey a lot of rumours Marvin would be Top 5 maybe even Top 3... Most likely he would stay for another year, heard he wanted to enjoy being a kid and going to college and etc... Andre Igoudala was #4 for the Sixers til Webber came and asked him for that number...
I think Marvin is too raw at this point to be a successful force in the NBA. I think it would be best if he spent another year at UNC, under the instruction of one of the greatest coaches, and developed his game both physically and mentally. He has all the athleticism he will need to be successful in the NBA right now, he just isn't as fluid and sound as I think he can be. Another year with Roy, would be nothing but a benefit to him. He can enjoy the college life some more and possibly win a title. That being said, if he does decide to leave I would completely understand where he is coming from. As a Duke fan, I would like to see him leave after this season however as a lover of basketball I hope he stays in college for another year.
His Shot Is Not Good? How Many 6-9 Forwards In College Do You Know Who Shoot Better Than 40% From Beyond The Arc. His Shooting Touch Is One Of Thie Things That Have Scouts So In Love With Him. Your Assesment Of His Shooting Is Exactly Opposite From What Every Scout I Have Spoken With Has Told Me.
Marvin shoots very well, which is why he does sometimes get seen as a top 3. I saw a lack of motivation or focus on D and rebounding. I think if your'e a freshman 6th man for NC on national TV you might tend to try too hard rather than be too casual,so I'd want to know he has the determination and work habits to reach his potential before I spend a top 5. If he stayed at NC a year and did give it 100% he'd be a solid pick, maybe #1 unless an impressive 7 ft Center appears
I've noticed quite the turn around in your opinion about Marvin lately! I'm shocked. Just to add to previous assesments and the opinion of freshman 6th men. Another part time starter (didnt start the fist 15 games of the season but does now) Rudy Gay. There is just one more 6-9 freak of an athlete, who if declared would be a Top 5 pick, despite not doing anything thus far to blow your mind. But the potential just oozes out of him. Everyone needs to watch Marvin and his calm cool demeanor tomorrow. He's going to be the X factor against Duke. And I still think you sometimes mistake Marvin's ease of his game for lack of effort. The same was said of Melo as a freshman. That he looks like he isnt trying. Same can be said for Marvin, but, looking at his numbers of 11.5 points and 6.5 boards as a NON starter, is good no matter who you play for.
As far as potential,Marvin has a lot more than Martynas A the 7-3 guy or for that matter Taft. In the last week I saw Warrick and Diogu and I like those 2 better than I did, with a big reason being the constant max effort in all phases. Melo still slacks on D-as do 100 others in the NBA,the core issue to me is the idea that to achieve potential a player really needs to pay the dues to train and learn, plus needs to really work on the floor. I did allow that I might have caught Marvin's bad moments,or it could have been some freshman confusion. As is he'd be worth a top 10 pick, but I wonder a bit about top 5 at this point. I'll give another look-NC is always on TV.
Well, Marvin disappoints in this big matchup, but, he did hit the game winning shot, so he can walk away happy on this one. Sheldon was a shot blockin beast, but, this round goes to Sean May. 26 points and 24 rebounds. He absolutly owned the peint tonight. And sick thing is, most "Mock Draft Experts" have him as a second round pick. Now this is a kid who has worked hard to re-shape his body and his game and look at the numbers and the ability. I'd love to see May and Sheldon both come back and beat on each other for one more year though!

Nowdays, the NBA is shifting to more of a athletic mindset where teams will take a 6-10 athletic guy over a say a 6-9 255 type guy who is more polished and has a better inside game. The NBA is shifting away from the center who is a dominating low post presence to a more of an athletic center who can take the ball outside. I think that without a doubt Sean May is a phenominal player, he just won't get the looks that Marvin will simply because he isn't as athletic as him. The same goes for Wayne Simien as well. It really is a shame.
I don't see why May cannot be a first round pick, hes an amazing rebouder, especially on the offensive end. He can post up, had a good touch, and he has a wide strong body.
well also the thing is like the teams get these 6-9 big, strong, and polished players out of college in the second round and they make the team because they are good enough. Then when they get to play and perform really well, they're considered a steal. its just the direction of the nba these days. It's kind of a shame that its heading that direction however, because if the athletic guys would just stay in college for a longer time span and get as polished as these other guys then we wouldn't even be saying this.
Sean May will be a solid player no doubt, he has the potential and the talent. He is not as physically gifted as Marvin Williams and does not have the upside that Marvin Williams has but he will be solid. Has anyone got a definite answer from MArvin. Is he going back to Chapel Hill where he will certainly dominate next year and improve his game and draft status, or is he fleeing for the cash??? I think he should stay at least one more year, become a starter and show the whole world what we already know, that he really is an amazing athlete. Fair enough if he leaves he will be top 5 pick. But, if he stays, he will definitely become a Number 1 pick.
